So, I know I am probably going to get blown out of the water for even suggesting such a thing, but I still wish that one day I will be able to have a lovely silky black cape on the back of my character as I run rampant across the land raiding, pillaging, and burning towns and cities in Tamriel.

    They (ZoS) already said (during LIVE Twitch) it's not possible because of the technical issues it would cause in pvp.

    So... just forget about it.

    Hey Cel. I remember my DAoC days and I hated the capes (on myself and especially other people) then.

    Also, I can't think of any capes that the TES titles have ever had. I think it just looks dumb with hundreds of caped people running through towns and countrysides.

    Bland utilitarian looking short cloaks (that wrap around the shoulders) and pin at the front would be better aesthetically, but not the long flowing highly decorative capes that don't offer any use to protect the shoulders and head.

    I get it! I know why there are so much topics about capes. Everyone want to be a BATMAN!

    They will figure it out some day. Too much money to be made to NOT have them.

    If it's an issue in Cyrodill, why not just hide it as soon as you zone in? Problem solved.

    Arena & Daggerfall, they had them. Dropped from the game world in Morrowind, likely due to the big switch to 3d-ish grafics, and never yet reintroduced...
    ...for players anyhow. Next time you fight a Lich, pay special attention to its clothes... ;)

    Cloaks sure, capes no. This isn't DC online people. No capes. But as pointed out above it would cause way to much lag in Cyrodiil, so no.

    They could always allow them in the costume slot and then disable costumes within Cyrodiil if there are, indeed, technical issues for PVP. Customizing your character; armor color, size of the character, gender, armor style etc. is a personal choice and aids in immersion. A cape/cloak would be very practical for a game like this if they continue to focus on the aesthetics and NOT functionality (i.e. adding buffs). Its a good idea in my opinion. Good thought @SG_Celerrimus

    There are several disguises that are usable in PvE that cannot be used in Cyrodil. Cloaks/capes would be possible in that situation. But capes would not be common while cloaks would. A cloak is nothing more than a hooded poncho and those are common today. Capes? Uhm.... well they were doing the Comic Fest here in town over the weekend so only then did I see them. ;)

    Creating animation for capes are hard. And it looks really bad if you dont do it right like in Arkham games.
    They wont ( cant ) create animations like that for an online game so i hope they never introduce them.

    If ZOS ever find a way to render capes without any clipping and other rendering problems they have in all games I've ever played then fine, till then the physics of capes simply defies current graphical systems as used in games to show them without looking dreadful with some weapon types, when mounted, etc.

    Cape = clipping

    I am quite happy that ESO is mostly out of clipping, but with capes it would be inevitable.

    They wouldn't have to create anything. They use Havok. Havok has a cloth plug in. The problem is their engine isn't efficient enough to handle the processing.
