I say this every time, and I'm certainly no programmer, but how does something like this get changed accidentally? Like, are the code monkeys more literal than we thought, except they randomly throw switches instead of poop? lol

This is a known issue. It's an unintended bug and not something we intentionally changed so you will see it going back to the way it was. Sorry for the inconvenience while it's in this state. Thanks!
Too many different uses for the same variable, overuse of inheritance, modifying static variables, dependency issues at object deconstruction, etc.I say this every time, and I'm certainly no programmer, but how does something like this get changed accidentally? Changing one part of the game code can effect other seemingly unrelated parts.
This is normal for software development.

I get it, really, fix one bug and a dozen others pop up. I totally understand that, for example, changing the sensitivity on collision detection could cause unforeseen issues with clipping maybe. I just don't get how *any* change could cause the colour on nameplates to change from yellow to white. It's not like it doesn't show, it's not corrupted or anything, simply that #FFFF00 suddenly became #FFFFFF.

You can choose a diff title (as you prob know), but the rank is exposed through the API, so addons will be able to show this still. If it shows as Tyro or lower, no worries you'll not be considered a PvPer )). I think most consider anything less than rank 10 someone who dabbles at most.
