Question about surge - weapon damage and staffs

So far weapon damage in Live is working on staffs correct?
So surge is giving bonus to weapon damage
In 1.6 weapon damage is staffs is not needed anymore only for swords etc if i am correct
And my question is what is the use of surge - weapon damage doing in a class tree of a sorcerer ? only if he decides to play with swords is needed
Pls explain i am bit confused here

    There is one morph for stamina (the other one) that buffs weapon damage and there's the magicka one you're referring to, that buffs both weapon and spell damage.
    I agree that it's completely useless to get both and I don't understand the design choices either.

    Neither do I get it. I guess, it is meant for hybrids. But in my opinion, even hybrids should choose, what they want to have.

    Well, the screwy part is, the weapon damage scales off weapon damage (and procs accordingly - think Surge / Degeneration)

    However, the skills, even though in the weapon line, scale of Magicka.

    Staves should scale off Magicka period. They are Arcane weapons - there is no melee aspect apart from bash/interrupt, and no one is bashing their way to a kill with a staff, last time I checked.

    Change the Surge Morphs to Weapon Damage or Spell Damage - this gives something for the stamina users and the magicka/staff users.

    As it stands, if you intend to use this skill at all, Power Surge (+20% Weapon and Spell damage) is the clear choice.

    i thought staves in 1.5 to scaled off weapon damage but in 1.6 they will scale spell power. Anyway if thats true u can get the spell power from entropy (and a better heal) ... & the increased weapon damage wont help a magicka sorc.

    Me personally i dont like the major & minor system of buffs because some class/weapon combos have more access to a major and minor buffs, others dont.

    For 1.5, this is correct for both Heavy, Light, and skill attacks.

    In 1.6 it is split. The only information regarding staves is in the 1.6 notes:
    • Other Major Gameplay Changes
    • Synergy abilities now scale off your highest stats that are either stamina or magicka based.
      • Ultimates and Synergy abilities now always scale of your highest Critical Strike stat instead of just your Spell Critical Strike.
      • Abilities that cost magicka will now always scale off your magicka, spell damage, and spell critical strike stats.
      • Abilities that cost stamina will now always scale off your stamina, weapon damage, and weapon critical strike stats.

    Heavy and Light attacks still factor in Weapon Damage (otherwise, a level 1 weapon would hit as hard as a level VR14, and Weapon Damage glyphs would effectively have no effect).

    Skills, being Magicka based, scale off the Magicka stats.

    Heavy attacks and Light Attacks are in limbo, once again, as they neither use Magicka or Stamina directly.

    Just thinking what if spell damage was the primary stat for all staffs and remove completely the useless waepon damage... only for staffs

    That's exactly what they are doing in 1.6 for the staves

    But they messed up surge to now be useless, when it would have been very simple to get right (No cooldown on the heal but cap to 6 targets... 1 morph for weapon power, the other for spellpower).

    you didnt get it I am thinking that: in your stats you see weapon damage on the staff that can be removed completely and be replaced with spell damage?
