ZOS Can we get Nameplates?

Jayshua

We really need Nameplates. Guilds are NAMELESS in AvA and in the PvE World Questing around and someone helps you or events are happening and you have no idea what guilds they are from or who to thank! Guilds need to be able to show who they are and represent themselves!

Please fix this or add the ability for AddOn Devs to add these in an AddOn thru the API / GUI!

Thanks!

Here's a little back and forth from a thread about this I raised a while ago.

Does it serve any purpose in a game where those in guilds tend to be in multiple guilds?

Sure. Aids in advertisement. Promotes guild solidarity. Ease of operation for events, like live guild auctions.

It'll work just like GW2, you can only have 1 guild tag active at a time. But switch back and forth at will.

Going into PvP turns it off. Along with nameplates in general if they're implemented.

You: "Oh hey, are you guys in the same guild? That's cool, rocking your colors with pride and whatnot"
Them: "No, we're in different guilds, we just have the same logo."
    You: "Oh....well that's awkward."
Tabards need to be like names, unique. I recently saw someone not in my guild wearing the tabard from my guild.
Aaaaand there's the problem with tabards. Cute idea. Ultimately useless.

i've been pushing this with them since launch, at the guild summit, and still nothing has come of it. my guild has no identity, we do stuff in cyrodiil. we kick major ass, but no one knows who we are because were not a huge zerg guild. my guild nearly fell apart in the beginning of the game, we cannot stand out. its like, there's whats his names group over there, but no one knows what guild they are in.

ive suggested just make it part of the title if you desire
    example

    Tyro of Guild Umbra
    Master wizard of Entropy Rising
    General of Decibal

you know stuff like that, its simple and works for every damn title you can get. so why not??

As a Guildmaster, I really like this idea.

For one thing, there's no universal key to Guild Tabards. You can't look them up anywhere to find out which Guild it was who just streamed past you en masse. They're really only useful for recognising members of your own Guild or for recognising that a group of players "belong together".

For another thing, Guild Tabards are useless in Cyrodiil if you're a social Guild rather than a PvP Guild, since members may be playing characters of any Alliance. My Guild was set up as a DC Guild, but most of us main EP characters. However, if EP members of a "DC Guild" try to wear their Tabards in Cyrodiil, they end up white. So for events we have to ask everyone to dye their armour instead.

The idea of just adding an extra line to the nameplate information, so it said, e.g:
    Martin Draconis
    of UESP Guild
    Master Wizard
is so simple. But it would make it easier to ask for invites to Guilds, especially if you kept noticing the same Guild name over and over again.

Of course, people would still have to decide which of their five Guilds they wanted to represent, but that's exactly the same as the Tabards now.

Most people's UI is pretty cluttered already b/c addons. In order to make your suggestion work, ZOS would have to provide an option to disable 'display guild name' or something similar. If it were on the same line as the name, something like this might work:

    Martin Draconis of UESP Guild
    Master Wizard

    OR

Martin Draconis, <rank> of UESP Guild
    Master Wizard

To be frank though, most people don't care, and it doesn't matter in many cases. Many serious PvP guilds recognize eachother on sight by spotting one or two members of a group. Moreover, PvP guild leaders are in regular contact with eachother, coordinating actions. As for PvE, most guilds group together for their raid activities, and try not to resort to pugs. Even a guild group needs someone to invite a friend, that friend is aware of which guild he/she is running with b/c of the teamspeak server or knowledge of a friend's guild(s).

On the whole, I am neither opposed to nor supportive of this idea.
"Things which are alike in nature grow to look alike, and the speaking stones have lain a long time lookin' at the sun. Some believe they descend with the lightning, but I believe they are on the ground and are projected downward by the bolt."

Everything you've said so far emphasises the huge difference between how PvP and PvE players use their Guilds. For you, it's about running raids and dungeons.

For us, as a social Guild, it's about making friends. Having people to chat to as you play, having long-time players to answer newbies' questions, and having high level crafters available to make equipment for everyone. Of course, we run group dungeons as well, but our events tend to be much more social in nature, such as a Skyshard Run or a Fishing Tournament.

When you're a Level 3 newbie, you don't know who anyone is. Forget recognising that this group of people are Such And Such Guild because you know a couple of the names. You don't know any names, or recognise any Guilds' colours, or know that some person who just wandered past you is a Guildmaster. Many of our members and all of our Guild Officers have invited "random" players from low level zones to join the Guild because they were obviously new, lost, clueless, and in need of friends who could give them decent advice. But how many other people have we missed?

A couple of months ago, I wanted to join a trading Guild who always seemed to have good items in their store. I hung out in the zone where that Guild's trader was, I asked on /zone if anyone was a member and could invite me, asked everyone I traded with if they were a member... It still took about 5 days before I was able to find someone who could give me an invite.

This is why I think it would be useful for players to be able to display their Guild affiliation.

Your point about the UI is valid, but is a different argument entirely. That's about how practical it is, rather than whether or not it would be useful. Honestly, if it was a case of needing to condense the information to two lines of text, I'd rather display "Guildmaster of UESP Guild" than any of the titles I've earned so far. (I might feel differently if I ever get "Boethiah's Scourge" or "Emperor" ;)).

You make a valid point about new players. They should have ample opportunity to get tutorship. When I log onto my mules in low-level zones, I frequently see, "LF guild," or "Wanting to join a guild for newbies," and similar messages. I am happy that there are guilds willing to, and in some cases designed to, help new players establish themselves in ESO.

However, comparing a high-quality trading guild with a social guild is a false equivalency. It took me months of playing around with pugs to find a quality end-game guild. My trading guilds are a constant process of improvement; if I feel that one trading guild will be more profitable than another, I quit guildA and join guildB. The guild that I run with in PvP is chill yet serious (Or should I say less than sober, yet mildly rabid?), and it took me a few days of spamming, "LFG" in Cyrodiil's /zone chat and the advice of some guildies to connect with them.

In summary response to your argument: to a new player, adding a guild nameplate is as meaningless as picking out a name or identifying a tabard in a Cyrodiil zergball. Let the new players join welcoming and friendly social guilds that advertise in low-level zones where they can get advice on how to join trading guilds and raid guilds.

As a final thought: I support the addition of guild nameplates if and only if ZOS allows us a UI option to allow or disable the display of such nameplates.

I would really like to see optional nameplates in ESO, I just like to see who is around me.
Standing close to someone to use the pointer and see their name/rank/level/whatever feels very, very awkward.

I'd rather have guild standards or something, that you could raise for a few secs, like an emote. And more tabard diversity. Everyone seems to be running with white on black. Is that really the only option?

I hate the clutter from nameplates. I guess they could allways make an API for it, but in a coordinated group this is a non issue. In a pug? Just follow the crown :)

I run an add-on that tells me when I hover over a guild mate, but sadly, it is not possible to get what guilds a player is in.

I am not really interested in name plates, but I would like to find out guilds without whispering to them.
