The problem I believe I was encountering with Overload was not based on the raw points I was adding to the stars in the constellations which I do understand about the diminishing returns. It was about Overload not properly increase with the actual bonus I was getting from the stars. I will try to explain better. I have made the next sentence bold to make it easier for you to find when I use the term "raw points" later on. By raw points I mean I put a point into any blue constellation and I receive more max magicka which increases my damage output. The problem I believe I was encountering on the stars called elemental expert and staff expert was the actual bonus of the stars where not applying to overload, not the raw points increasing my magicka. So, in the tool tip of Overload it is a switch from regular light and heavy to a special electric light and heavy attack. Staff expert increases light and heavy attacks of staves from 1-25%, and as I had a staff as my equipped weapon when I was using Overload I was expecting to see a percent increase based off the staff expert star. I figured easiest way to tell would be to look at the difference between 0-100 cp in the staff expert star if I remember the increase to Overload was under 300 damage. I assumed that 300 damage was from the raw points as I would expect Overload to increase by 25%. I thought maybe technically Overload is not a staff weapon, so that could be the reason it was not applying. My question is this issue by design or a bug. I then tried Elemental Expert because I knew Overload was electrical damage, but once again I only got a 300 damage increase.
I have gone back and retested. I am running 3 ather v14, 3 willow v14, and 5 warlock v12 the warlock neck and 2 rings are blue gloves and shoes are gold all armor is infused trait. Giving me max mag of 20,140 and sp dmg of 1208. I was not running inner light or bound aegis, I was yesterday, also not running major or minor sorcery, and had no champion points. All of that brought Energy Overload IV to 6,235 shock damage light attacks and 2,461 shock damage heavy attacks. I will add this here , the 200 cp I put into the system did not give me any passives that would increase the output of Energy Overload IV. The first 100 cp I put into Staff Expert. That kept me flat I was still at max mag 20,140, sp dmg 1208, and Energy Overload IV 6,235 shock damage light attacks and 2461 shock damage heavy attacks. Keeping the 100 cp in Staff Expert I then add 100 cp into Elemental Expert. This is what I got max mag 21,283, sp dmg 1208, and Energy Overload IV 6452 shock damage light attacks and 2,547 shock damage heavy attacks.
I then went and removed the 100 cp out of staff expert star. Bringing my max mag to 20,140, sp dmg 1208, and Energy Overload IV to 6,235 shock damage light attacks and 2,461 shock damage heavy attacks which was all my original stats. To me this says when I got a bump in max magicka I got a bump in the output of Energy Overload IV, and received no bump from the actual stars themselves, just from the raw points. The 25% from either star with 100 cp in it should be 1558.75 damage to light attacks and 615.25 damage to heavy attacks.
My question is. Is this a bug or by design? Also, are ultimate not suppose to be effected by the champion system?
As a side note to all of this I find it strange that 100 cp did nothing to my max magicka. I would report this as a bug if I had found it separate of this testing.
