If your group is bigger than 6 members gain 75% damage reduction.

Write this on the back of your box and see how many sales you get!

You won't get any new PvP players until this archaic AoE crap is fixed.
I for one won't resub until:
1.) You fix lag.
2.) You remove AOE caps we voted against.
3.) 12 months have passed (this is how long we've waited for you to 'get with it')[/b]

So far, you can get soul gems/potions from the cash shop and subscribers will get a 10% experience/inspiration boost, so, it isn't only cosmetic.

This. They've already stated explicitly that they're selling advantages for cash, but for some reason F2P fans are running around saying that the shop will only be cosmetic. At this point I'm really not sure if they're all trying to be deceptive or if they just can't read.

Both seem equally plausible to be honest.

Yep, but you are now observing the coping mechanism - people believe what they want to believe, not what logic, reason and cold hard cash is telling them. Just like most, myself included, didn't want to hear about cash shop/F2P/B2P incoming.

I agree with the fact they currently are not only offering cosmetics. Personally I am sticking around and checking it out, who knows. I just see the huge grey area with "convenience" items and the slippery slope they are on. I have full expectations that at launch there will be cosmetic and "convenience" items, in a year they may cross the line and we may consider it pay to win. I plan on enjoying my time until (if.. Probably)that really happens

Surely they wouldn't make that mistake though right? I mean all of the gaming community on almost every game knows how that model turns out and it ends up failing. If they don't know that much then ESO is a lost cause no matter how much we tell them to change things. This sort of thing should be common sense now... right?

Nope. Don't see any issues with other items besides cosmetics. In fact, if ZOS is implementing the system right and carefully, the gameplay experience could turn out to be the best for everybody.

No F***ING way they will "promise" this, or even that said promise would carry any weight with the players at this point. And as others have pointed out, they are already past cosmetics. I think the OP needs a lesson in how this works:
The cash shop, as is, may be all they plan. But as people now leave = less $$. Then they cannot continue with "new" content to justify subs = less $$, they have to rely more on the cash shop and what they offer there. More X boosters, and more people leave = less $$. So they have to drive more people to the cash shop and the items for money. When they have not gotten enough money, they offer the game for free to get more traffic into said cash shop. (No one buys a game only to have to buy more items in said game) Focus becomes the cash shop and what they can "sell" people.
No one can predict how this will play out, but history has shown that it usually doesn't end well for the game or the players. (Okay, the "loyal" players or whatever you want. I am sure a ton of F2P people benefit later) As it stands, this may be an acceptable change, but it does not bode well for the future projections. And if they could not maintain their "goals and plans" after only a year, where do you even see hope that they will be able to maintain this "goal"? It is disheartening. On the one hand, I have a few friends that will come back and I can game with them, on the other hand is that I now see the end in sight for a game that I won't be playing long term. I "believe" that the console is what drove this change. I can see that being the reason. But having the cash shop just gives them an easy out for generating revenue and usually that goes from a novelty to a necessity in a short time. I will be here till said time, but mostly because I still want to experience parts of the game. I am proceeding with a lot of caution now and one hand solidly on my wallet. Distracting me from the game and playing on my "preconceived prejudices" will make me turn tail and run more than it will make me want to fully "invest" myself into the game.
Follow me if I advance, Kill me if I retreat, Avenge me if I die.

When this immediate evil power has been defeated, we shall not yet have won the long battle with the elemental barbarities. Another evil, it may be an invisible adversary, will attempt, again, and yet again, to destroy our frail civilization. Is it true, I wonder, that the only way to escape a war is to be in it?

If they want their brand to last decades from now they will promise that the cash shop will never become pay to win. Simple as that.
They may make a buck or two here or there (maybe three!) but as with all other buy to win games they will lose massive respect. It would be a white-knight move to make a promise now that the item shop will only ever be cosmetic, but like you I seem to think they won't do that; and that they will think dollar > brand-name > longetivity.

So then you have to ask, will said "promise" even carry any weight with the current player base? If not, then that "promise" is worth squat. For me, the "promise" would mean absolutely nothing, considering everything else that has come since launch. And even if they did "promise" this, it wouldn't change my stance or how I will proceed even the slightest. (Still clutching my wallet and eyeing the door)

Not sure what's so bad about buying potions and soul stones from Crown shop. How is that different from buying them from vendors? I know, one is in-game gold and the other is potentially cash from real world, but it's the same principle of convenience vs. time to amass same items via game.

That's not so bad- the only difference is in how you buy it.

My area of concern is the XP and crafting boosters that will be available for purchase according to the announcement. You can't buy those for in game gold.

Edit: I didn't vote because it remains to be seen how much impact these kinds of things will have.

This part is what should be the concern, right. As it stands, the cash shop is reprehensible (to me) but will not dramatically change the game. But if/when you start to offer items for $$ but not in game currency, you become P2W and the game becomes a cash hole that will milk any and all players like a vampire.

Cosmetic Only is still real-world money for in-game content, which is inherently bad. I'm not going to quit just yet, but there's no getting around the fact that they've cheapened the whole experience.
