ZOS - Tone Down Your Enthusiasm

Instead of coming out in an honest and forthright manner, everything I read from ZOS about these changes has been "rainbows, sunshine, and candy." They talk as though they are doing all of us a favor. Where is the candidness? The assurances? The pow wow time?

It's insulting to our intelligence when you go overboard trying to spin something.

One of my high school coaches had a saying I feel best fits this situation:

Well they have been doing this since the start and especially in the last 3 months. Remember when they were saying how enthusiastic we should be about the most *** mechanics changes ever. Or how happy we should be that there will not be much in the way of possible progression until 1.8 for constant early subscribers.. Most people do think that is rain by now. :)

I noticed this during the ESO live. They kept mentioning how the bonus' and ability to purchase via a store would be "so nice because I just don't have time to keep up!" It felt forced and rehearsed. They're smart guys, they knew what type of MMO they were advertising upon release by 1.) having a sub and 2.) not including a store. This overly emphasized rationalization for why the store is "going to be great" really looks like night and day compared to pre-release interviews.

Whether it was an income issue or the inability for them to reach an accord with Sony/Microsoft about subscription fees I kind of wish they wouldn't have gone far with trying to spin it as a much needed alleviation of stress for the games population.

What ESO really needs is an Auction Horse.

See I think that is a bit daft, best bet would be cancel your sub, never visit the cash store, and milk every free bit of fun you can still get from the game. The 'uninstall' approach just seems like throwing the baby out with the bathwater (especially since I doubt they care any longer whether you sub or not), just come March get all the free fun you can out of it whilst taking up server space - you really haven't thought this through. ;)

I never signed for another payment model than P2P.

Matt Frior told us they never gonna switch payment model.

A lot of us feel betrayed and are right.

I liked the game, I like the ES franchise since 2002's Morrowind, but I hate cash-shops. Whatever they can tell us now have a great chance to be a lie.

Matt Frior : "It's not gonna be pay-to-win"

    Can we trust that ?

Short answer is DKs likely won't be seeing a ton of changes before we go live; this class is still quite powerful (as it should be being a tank), even after some of the adjustments we've made to other classes and abilities.

I don't get why people bring up the 'They promised it would be this payment model' thing

    tumblr_nab6gtt4Fy1qgh10go1_400.gif

I bet that was what they fully intended...back then when they said that. But stuff changes. Consumer demands are always shifting. You either adapt to what is needed to help your game or you follow the route Warhammer online went. If they thought staying sub based was the best thing for the game, they would have stayed that way.

I get it, they said something and went back on it. But wouldn't you go back on your word if you knew it was the right decisions to help your game move forward. Warhammer online was stubborn and they preached the same thing about subs and they ended up running themselves into the ground because of it.

I think that's the case, actually. The sad and depressed part. But they got to play their part, nonetheless. Which in turn just makes it worse. I wouldn't want to be in their place, having to grin and bear it.

I feel honest pity, when I see them acting like that.

Im far from a Fanboy. In fact Im not a fan of anything that isnt a sub based MMO. But that doesnt mean Im going to freak out and cry about the changes that are coming.

But Good one Snowflake. You really got me in the feels with that Fanboi jab. I just dont show it well.

There was more than likely a gag order from up top to keep the devs and staff from spilling the beans on this. Similarly, this reaction from the staff is most likely a mandate. Those who have worked in corporations nod silently and cry in their cubicles.

    ^This.

If/when this game transitions to the very dark grey area of "convenience" items, and I start to feel like I have to buy an item to keep up, then I'll leave. Until then, I'll just enjoy it and take my choice of pet or mount with their crowns they give me. I understand the concerns of the way the cash shop may transition, and it sucks, but no point in stopping playing until that really happens.

I personally think the cash shop will go this way, but really, maybe it will take 2 years for that to happen. Might as well enjoy it while its not.

Agree completely. The thread they started asking us what kind of things we want to see in the cash shop...insulting. The answer is nothing. We didnt ask for this, like Matt Fioriererr or what ever his stupid name is, said we did.

The scary part is that those three on ESO live actually have children. Imagine that 15 year old asking his dad, the PR guy: "Dad, what is ethics?". "Well son, that's something you can buy or sell. Just look at me and my co-workers.".

The stream was actually kind of sad. That VP of PR and Marketing dude we never saw asking them questions like "huhh huh, say something nice about this".

Maybe we're projecting our feelings on them, but it felt like they were really uncomfortable and when not the focus of the attention kind of dead inside.

It was also all kind of pointless since no one except current hardcore customers would be watching the livestream. Yet, a lot of it was addressed to console players or non subscribers, essentially people not yet invested in the game enough to watch a 1h30 min livestream about the game.

I'd like to see current subscriber numbers. Even trends over the past few months. I severely doubt that the game was not making a profit.
An honest approach like "we need to do this cash grab or we go under" would have been acceptable if backed by proof, but this whole masquerade of "we're doing you guys a solid" is just insulting.

That's however the exact same situation you find yourself in every time when buying the cheapest product without asking where, how and by whom it came to be.

There is a scary part to that. Not that anyone got children. But that we all are living in the very midst of just that.
