Tamriel Unlimited and the effect it will have on us as a community.

After reading the forums today, I have come to realize that this community is very fickle. People raging about the announcement and threatening to unsub and all that stuff. Well I want to point out that we cannot assume anything at this point, we only know what they have told us. We cannot base our assumptions on games 2-6 years old because that is how they did it then. This is TESO and for the most part it has really done its own thing since the beginning. I do not excuse ZOS for their lack of communication, neglect towards pvp and the backtracking on things they said would happen that actually never happened or have yet to happen. Example would be IC, remember when IC was supposed to be in 1.4 and we got some half rate update, that for the most part was lackluster? Yea. I do however really enjoy playing this game still and though I am not personally happy about this decision, I can understand why it is. As a community we need to come together and really make this game what it could be, if this community is just going to be filled with people constantly complaining; how are we supposed to grow and make it better? I cannot stand to read most of these threads because it seems like this place is tearing itself apart.

With the option coming in the future to play this game for free, I view it as such: Most games give free trials so people can try them out before purchasing them, TESO never has. To me, this is a way for ZOS to give people a "trial" without having to do much extra work. I think that this will bring new people into game because they do not need to pay a monthly sub, all they need to do is buy the game. This will also help bring people back to the game that left months and months ago, when this game was completely different. If people like something they will buy it, hence the option of subs still. I think from a business standpoint this is a smart way to try and get new life in the game especially for PC, without destroying the current community.

For those that rage about Pay 2 Win and Free 2 Play and how TESO will head down that road, be the SOLUTION not the PROBLEM. Right now people ranting about stuff like that are the problem. I have played my share of games that went down that road, the reason they did was because they had no other choice... If we as a community want this game to succeed and not end up like certain other games in the past, than we need to stick together as a community. We need to keep playing, keep making suggestions, help the newcomers learn to love the game like we do. If we do that, then this game will not fail.

Phoenix Rising will play till the end, we will fight to keep this game from going free to play and/or pay to win.

A day may come when the courage of Nirn fails, when we forsake our friends and break all bonds of fellowship... but it is not this day. An hour of wolves and shattered shields, when the age of Elder Scrolls comes crashing down... but it is not this day! This day we fight!

Well said. Nice to see a post without irrational hyperbole stating an opinion/prediction/assumption as fact.

Well, considering our community is already full of knuckleheads, now we can add kids to the equation.

I've been here since beta, I'm not leaving til they pull the plug.

The hybrid F2P model didn't kill LoTRO. It actually brought in a lot of new players.

What ruined LoTRO is when they started making the cash shop Play-2-Win. In other words, offering powerful items that you otherwise couldn't get in game.

I'm on the fence about this.

I do know the community is not happy, because now everyone realizes they have been withholding the 1.6 patch notes until they made the F2P announcement.

Will stick around as long as the game continues to be viable with the game time cards and does not require me to cash shop to keep up.

Likely to spend less time on the forums when I am not in game though. Get more than enough of the f2p community drama with my own moderator position, do not want to deal with it in leisure. Considered the ESO forums my refuge from that headache.

Nice rally cry OP. I think however that people are still too bent to give it much credence. I personally would still enjoy this game without complaint if this was the only change they make. However, history has shown that ZOS continues to try and find their way, usually at the expense of the fan / player base. They also have changed direction so many times that I am getting dizzy. And lastly, they are not even approaching this in a new fashion. It is more like "Oh ***, what do we do?" and so they try and grab what others have done to make money. Only they are doing it short slightly, IMO, and not seeing how this, and their other decisions, have had a negative affect on the community.

Sorry to jump of topic, sort of. I wanted to compliment you on the rally cry, but even I can't jump to arms just yet.
Follow me if I advance, Kill me if I retreat, Avenge me if I die.

When this immediate evil power has been defeated, we shall not yet have won the long battle with the elemental barbarities. Another evil, it may be an invisible adversary, will attempt, again, and yet again, to destroy our frail civilization. Is it true, I wonder, that the only way to escape a war is to be in it?

If I die, you are forgiven, If I live, I will kill you.

    Firstly, great post!

Secondly, this won't reach those who rather like to wallow in their self-created gloomy outlook, as always. But... who really cares?

I have no doubt that going with a new model is a good business decision and could boost the game along for a little longer.

Regardless, this doesn't excuse the constant lies and deceptions that ZOS has continued to feed their player base. I unsubscribed as soon as ZOS flip flopped on vet exp/CP distribution and they will never get another dime from me as I refuse to reward a company for unethical business behavior with my hard earned dollars. I also will never again play a game that is ran by ZOS as they have lost all their credibility in my opinion.

I don't know if ESO will succeed or fail and frankly I don't care. The game is average at best and I have played games that were much better in pve or pvp aspects 7-10 years ago. At this point ESO is just a filler until some other MMO's hit the market and ZOS knows it which is why they are moving to quickly capitalize on anything they can get from the game while they can.

The thing is, about 450 people on the forums does not represent the community at all.
