Its F2P NOT B2P

B2P does not exist, ESO is just trying to get away from the F2P tag... A TRUE B2P option WOULD NOT HAVE a store for anything, buying the box would be all you need to play.

In all the F2P games you need to "buy" expansions with real money.

Yes the "core game" needs to be bought first, but that is the same as buying an expansion pack to start, your $30/$40 bought you the game then its "Free to Play".

When new stuff comes out you can pay a sub and get the expansions (paid) or you can play for free and not get the expansions but you can play everything else for free, you want to play an expansion you pay "crowns" and can buy an expansion to play.

With crowns you can buy potions, exp bonus, mounts, and vanity items. If you have a sub you can by with crowns potions, exp bonus, mounts, and vanity items.

I guess the point is I dont see an advantage of paying for a subscription if you only get 1500 "extra" crowns a month and 10% bonus exp and coin (P2W anyone) if I can just buy the crowns when I need them. make the game a true B2P and remove the subscriptions and the "advantages"

As I posted before this is the same as LoTRO when they went to a "F2P model" the only difference was that the core game was free like a demo... The items could not be traded (like ESO) and the "points" could not be traded. As I have stated before this LoTRO system worked for a while, but what happens is that the box sales drop out and the money is made via the "crown store" and buying expansions (that come out more often, but bad content to sell more) The store will get more and more vanity items, more colors, more shiny and more exp bonus.

The only real difference between B2P and F2P is that the former at least provides a bit of a barrier for gold farmers, spammers, and trolls. If it costs some money to start up a new account, then at least there's a cost to those undesirable elements of the population every time they get banned.

Buy to play as far as MMOs go means you buy the box and play like Guild Wars 2. Free to play means you do not have to buy a box to start playing like LOTRO.

It will be. I mean, after March. You buy the box, you can play the game. You can pay more to get other neat stuff to play with, or just keep playing. Same deal.

Amsel, would you prefer B2login vs. F2login. Is that a better description for you? Or how about B2createaccount, not F2createaccount?

There IS a difference when you need to buy the box, but you seem to be getting caught up on the terminology.

Its F2P... if you have to buy the box once does not make the whole game B2P... the MMO world are just trying to get around the stigma of F2P.

On a side note LoTRO would have been B2P if not for the fact that almost everyone all ready bought the game.

No F2P is when you have to buy little microtransactions to keep up with players who either sub or buy a ton of crap from the in-game store with a black card. Which is also what they are probably going to do,

There are many different versions of F2P and B2P.

Some require you to buy new content, while others give players new content for free and relies on the cash store.

ESO will be B2P (box price) + new content must be bought or accessed through an active subscription.

That is NOWHERE near F2P. Stop with the delusions.

Its because its free to play the game... they are scared so much that it will get the F2P tag that they lose players. Fact is the first "F2P" pay gate is you buying the box, then the game is free.

All you fans wont admit that this B2P model is the same F2P model with you having to by a box once, because you were lied to. The LoTRO model is a better name for it.

IT is buy to play not free to play. Buy to play is were you have to go to the store and buy the game box disc and all that or go to steam find it in there store and down load it after you buy it. Free to play is were you just need to down load it or even just play it on your browser examples of F2P is adventure quest worlds or runescape. Examples of B2P is GW2. It's B2P not F2P.

But you've still bought the game.

AND you won't be getting access to new updates unless you buy them or subscribe to ESO Plus.

    That's the difference.

LoTRO I bought the box... and ESO would have done the same thing if it could not get the Xbox suckers to buy a box on a F2P model...

Uh Wrong A F2P is free from the start such wonderful games such as
War Thunder, Planetside 2, Hero's and General's ,Spiral Kinghts ect. This game B2P fee's which if your member now and continue being a member all this shift does is in a positive way. So please learn terminology before posting things that you don't understand. people still have to pay $40-$50 B2P

How is ESO not B2P? You still have to buy the Game to access it. And you still have to purchase/rent the DLC to access it. You want to see F2P go install Star Trek Online. There is no purchase needed to access the game at all. And none of the DLC with STO behind paywalls.

Stop Fearmongering. And stop spreading bad information. Grow up.

For ESO, you will have to buy the game first.

As far as LOTRO the OP bought the box BEFORE the f2p switch. There is no box to buy now. Only expansions and you dont need cash to buy those. You can use your points (lotro's "crowns" are called turbine points) that you get free with your paid sub or you earn by playing the game. LOTRO to me is as good a f2p system as there is. I just dont like f2p at all. Same as if I dont like burgers. You can have the best burger in the world but I dont like burgers.
