Would you be opposed to a sparring space found within a Fighter's Guild or some kind of arena? Is your response just a grumpy Khajiit response?

When there is "Justice" in the world, I suspect people will be doing this. *Steal a grape OMG CRIME let's go battle*
And so did many brave men, women, and beast fall to the end of Beta, never to be heard from again. All that is left, is whispers of the adventures they had.

I think a dedicated duelling zone would be a good thing. Done correctly, duelling becomes an option that people agree to beforehand .. like throwing down the gauntlet.

Setting up a duel where both parties have to agree to duel has been done in other games. Path of Exiles for example ... and I'm sure there are others.

DC Universe Online had the option as well. It never griefed anyone or whatever the complaint is today.

They've already said that once the PvP portion of the Justice System is in place they will then have the "tools" to enable a dueling system.

I had a concept for an Instigation mechanic that would support open world PvP

When Paul Sage talked about this a while back he acted like they don't ever want to add it and don't see why people think it's important to have. I wouldn't hold my breath on this obviously important mechanic ever being added to ESO, nor Target Dummies for Player use.

It's so obviously important that the game has been running for a full year without the entire world grinding to a halt. Clearly, it's a necessary feature.

If it's in a PVP zone then fine, otherwise no, it's a bloody annoyance to most who have no interest in it when idiots duel in public spaces like banks, stores, etc.

Actually that's not what the saying means exactly. It comes from a saying "that pigs will fly all across the land when Richard the Lionheart returns back to England"

But "Pigs" was old English slang for Birds, so it just meant every bird in the country would take to wing at the same moment.

    But nice picture.

If Zenimax implemented friendly duels or test dummies, then we could test builds and skills in a controlled environment, and they can't have us knowing which skills are working correctly and which aren't. This forum would instantly be filled with posts about how skill X is supposed to do Y, but does Z instead.

Although there is much sarcasm in your comment, I actually think this might be 100% truth.

By that logic the Imperial City, Justice System, Champion System, Spellcrafting, Dark Brotherhood, Thieves Guild and anything else upcoming that I missed is not important or necessary?

It's not that it's important to have, it's that it'll be a way to make the game BETTER... if they're ok with mediocrity then they shouldn't add it I guess.

Can anyone enlighten me as to why adding dueling (assuming it's only by agreement between the players, and only in designated dueling areas) could be a bad thing? I mean, it's not something I'm interested in myself, but I don't see how it would negatively impact anyone, and obviously there are a number of people who would enjoy it.

It can't, and it doesn't. People who are against it just want something to complain about. There is literally no reason whatsoever to keep a core feature like Dueling and Target Dummies out of an MMO. It allows Players to test different builds and see what works for them.

The only downside is that it could further expose horrible class imbalances and broken skills, but I don't see why a player who cares about the game would be against this happening. Unless, of course, you are one of those people who exploits those imbalances to make yourself feel "powerful."
  • keonimeyer
you all make valid points (although that flying pig pic was hilarious) i really don't know what to say because you all have already pointed out its pros and cons. Only time will tell i suppose.
