Stamina Templar asking for help with DKs

I recently switched my Templar from LA-1H/S-Resto staff to a Medium Armor, Stamina-based, 2H/Bow build. My problem is that I'm not sure how to counter the typical LA, block-casting, Invasion-Talons-Standard-Scales DK. I used to know how to fight them in my old build: pull out the Resto staff, have Purify on my bar, etc. But how is a 2H/Bow stamina Templar to counter the standard set of DK abilities? What specific skills should I be using, and how should I be using them?

I am leaning right now towards trying to reserve my magicka for keeping up Blazing Shield, and trying to critical charge the DK, stay in his face and roll out of any Talons. This seems rather resource-intensive, though, and I think the DK will outlast me. Can anyone help with some advice?

Thanks!

Either switch to dual-wield and spam rapid strikes to get his stamina down, or keep hitting with light/heavy attacks with the 2h.

All you need to do is keep your magicka/BS up longer than his stamina and you can then use wrecking blow and spam executioner. I also wouldn't dodge roll the talons either unless they move out of striking distance. That absorbed damage in the BS will help with your DPS.

Thanks, that is very close to the build I was aiming at... just significantly better than mine :)

If I'm not rolling out of Talons, though, and instead just eating it with Blazing Shield up, am I just trying to time the end of the Talons with a Critical Charge?

If you have crazy stamina regen, you can try caltrops to drain his stamina

If he smart, he will use razor armor + immovable + ash cloud against you. And block casting on top of that.. So sad thing is, he will literally take no damage from you. And since you can't use block casting efficiently as a stamina build, you'll eat full damage form those whips
    Good luck!

avoid the shield charge nockdown (dodge, block, or immovable) then dodge-roll out of talons. crit rush then go light attack/carve spam to get his stam down. after his stam is gone, go ape-*** and finish off with executioner. pop a stam pot & repeat. easy-peasy lemon-squizey.

Great advice! Did you mean Carve in particular, or basically just any skill to burn his stamina? I ask because I assume he can block the AoE and the bleed from Carve... so not sure why you chose Carve in particular.

well, he's a stamina build templar 2h/bow. go melee to avoid flappy-flaps, so he's using 2h. carve is instant cast and can animation cancel partial light/heavy attack (shh). save magika for blazing shield and self heal. personally i use brawler morph for the damage shield.

Unless it's DK vs DK. He has a 2h + tons of Templar abilities to counter a DK. No reason he should lose unless he gets out played and doesn't have good resource management.

You don't even need all of that. A block casting DK can't whip a Templars blazin shield. It will kill the DK incredibly fast. All he needs to do is blazing shield with some light attacks here and there.

Ok so here is how I do it, to be fair I have a VERY hard time killing a 5+ heavy sword and board built not to die any class, as I have to purely out last them. But LA is a different thing... Espeicialy if they are built to do damage and not solely built to tank.

Step one, get him to flap. I know this may sound counter intuitive, but make sure he has wings up as much as possible. As soon as you see his reflect go down, shoot him with your bow until it comes back up. This will make him consume magicka on wings, and it takes 1/4 moves he can casts, making it very beneficial if your wasting his cast.

Step 2. Caltrops. This is a must, for many reasons. A DK that sits with block up now has roughly 0 net stam coming in. This means that every hit he blocks will lower his stam and slowly drain him. Now some DKs will roll out, that's fine just use your field to kite them. They will do no damage to you at the over side of it. And worst choice of all, they may drop block, in this case use your cc and/or burst of choice and scare him real good. Fun fact: most DKs have a heal bar and offense bar. When swapping weapons block drops, you can use this to your advantage when you start to preassure them.

Step 3, movement. As soon as the flappy starts charge in, make sure you have your bshield up when you do. Once up close let him blow your shield up while landing light attacks with executioner weave on his shield. This is not meant to do damage but to drain his stam. After your shield blows the DK should by now have had the reflect wear off, swap to bow, light/magnum away then pelt him until they come back up. Then you just repeat your charge in again, keeping heavy pressure on him. Keep in mind to pivot with your caltrops field while doing this, not away from it. Also punish his stamina bar if he decides to try and block with resto out. And lastly if he decides to shield charge you like crazy this fight will turn in your favor very very quickly. His gap closers cost much more than yours do.

Step 4 ultimate generation. Kite him as best as you can, don't let him build ult on you. This means don't let him dot you up, land an effective cc, and if he reflects arrows dodge them. DKs will thrive in an environment where they can generate ultimate, so it is within your best interests to not let that happen.

Finaly, a LA DK with no stam is very squishy. Defiantly within kill range from 3k hp with a good burst.

TLDR you have to weave lights as often as you can, caltrops, kite him as often as you can especially if he gets aggressive. Punish him for ever dropping his shield, cc when he swaps, and just be like the wasp, always buzzing around waiting for its prey to drop their guard.

And in closing you should be much faster than a DK, if you feel like you aren't going to win just snare him and run off. If he decides to charge spam to stay next to you turn on him as he just blew his stam for you :)

Didn't want to quote all that but Your videos have been great so far . Most of your total builds run off of specialized armor , jewelry and weapon sets . I'd like to see what You can put together for those just getting outfitted through reward PvP sets . A template build on a budget so to speak .

I still am lacking one shadow walker piece and don't use the blood spawn set. Between WW willows path and 3 piece night silence. I sit at 2417 Stam. 2887 health with 157 stam recovery .. Prior to shadow walker I used reduced stam cost necklace from rewards of the worthy and 2 Loop of the lost rings for stam recovery and added stamina
Ashen grip 3 piece works well for the wpn dmg and health boost in a 3 piece set.as far as a new to pvp framework gear lay out

I don't really want to crash this (extremely interesting) discussion.. but where do I find your YouTube videos? I've tried checking your profile and signature, but I'm not seeing any obvious links. I've recently started a stamina-based Templar build and it sounds like your videos would be enormously helpful to me.

Right, after this brief interlude... let the discussion continue.

Aaah, as it turns out I'm quite familiar with his videos (already a subscriber to his channel and using his build). In fact, I can honestly say that his Blood Knight build was what made me try a Templar in the first place. I had tried every other class except Templar... but that build looked very interested, and has proved to be a lot of fun too.

I love stacking Solar Barrage and Blazing shield to kill DK's. I just find it amusing to kill them with burst damage from their own dragon standards.

Keep those 2 skills up and you are fine with 2H. As far as bow goes, I like to have Immovable on that bar, so I don't get knocked down while shooting. Light/Heavy attacks are all you care about anyway. Use Magnum Shot to pop out of talon spam and land a small stun. Enough to pop a potion or cast a heal.

Stick with it. 2H/Bow Templars are a blast. You'll figure it out soon enough.

Templars have one of the biggest counters with DKs as they have no range, Blazing shield dude.

Problem is you're stamina. But you can't counter everything with any build, that's not how mmos work.
