REPORT: ELDER SCROLLS ONLINE STILL AVAILABLE FROM PUBLISHER.

A source close to a web browser has reported that Elder Scrolls Online games and time cards are available for purchase from the Bethesda Softworks store. The source has also confirmed that retail outlet Best Buy has Elder Scrolls Online game cards in the stores.

Although I'm not buying into all the F2P hype, has anyone considered that they may be going to a free software download/subscription model? I think this would be a more likely case than the F2P model.

Yeah, this is very likely, just like daoc and a few other older mmos.

If this was the case, it still wouldn't explain the removal of time cards for months of subscription time.

Frankly, I've already said before that ZOS needs to address this at some point before I can speak to the game's future with confidence, but we've got ESO Live this week and the Road Ahead announcement at the end of the month.

If - keyword: if - they announce that nothing's changing and clean up the news regarding the Australian stores' removal of stock, I'd still have to question why they'd choose to wait so long. I get it's their business, and they shouldn't *have* to answer these kinds of questions constantly, but it's only harming their Update 6 release (which is a big one at that) to have the game stoked in F2P controversy in the month leading up which could have easily been put to bed.

Really we do it without like, the musical instruments. This is the only musical: the mouth. And hopefully the brain attached to the mouth. Right? The brain, more important than the mouth, is the brain. The brain is much more important.

I just think it's interesting it's only Australia. Tons of games, even in the states, can have pre-orders a year after the game came out so I don't know why time cards and the boxes would be pulled there.

I know a lot of people are tired of the free to play talk, but this stuff is pretty strange. I hope for everyone that it doesn't go free to play, since many people here are against it.

Most importantly, ZOS should address this stuff either way. Because this stuff is suspicious.

But seriously, why is it only Australia?

Zenimax has officially realized that The Elder Scrolls Online game engine is rubbish and so they are releasing a new version. This will be a ground up rebuild of the game and will feature full directX 11 support and will feature a vastly improved netcode. Of course being the most important market and THE key to the future success to The Elder Scrolls Online it's only natural the Australia gets the first roll out of this vastly superior version.

When WalMart pulls from its shelves, then I will scream "the sky is falling, the sky is falling!" with y'all

Funny you mention that, I just happen to be in a Walmart while they were restocking electronics. I saw two huge stacks of ESO game-time cards being stocked. You'd think they wouldn't be getting new stock if it were going F2P soon.

Why is it just Australian Stores? Maybe we are getting our own megaserver? (I can wish)

Nice thought but I'd have to leave some guilds I really like. I'd find pure Australian Zone chat to be hilarious though, particularly if reading it with the profanity filter turned on. It would almost be unintelligible :)

AHAHAHAHAHAHAA. Yes a dinky little country with 20 million people and a computer gaming base which might be close to 1 million if they are extremely lucky has stores pulling games from the shelves. This has meaning because after all we have such a meaningful market here in Australia. WTF would I buy the game off the shelf when I can get it from ZoS or Steam and the games on the shelves are 99% console?

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Video_gaming_in_Australia

There are over 11 million gamers in Australia with and industry of over $1.1 billion and ranked 13th in the world for video game consumption. I'd say that is a fairly reasonable achievement for a "dinky" country :)

May not be part of a normal stock recall.
More Australian video game retail chains are reportedly pulling The Elder Scrolls Online from stores, following last week’s reports that EB Games was removing stock of the MMORPG from sale.

A JB Hi-Fi source told Games.On.Net today that TESO copies were pulled from shelves late last week and “are to be kept out back ‘until further notice.’”

A source at another Australian retail franchise, Harvey Norman, told the publication that that “all game cards and copies were pulled out of Harvey Norman, and the ONLY reason that would happen is because it has become a free product”. The source added they had seen the clearout’s paperwork confirmation and that “if it was being brought out in a different format, it’d have a price drop, not a recall."

Let's be balanced here, IF ZOS are planning what the OP is hysterically claiming (ALL CAPS clearly shows an over-emotional reaction) then ZOS are hardly likely to pull sales from their own store until the moment the change to F2P is announced.

They probably do need to address this at some point before ESO Live otherwise the twitch chat there is going to be full of nothing but F2P questions and it will look pretty iffy if they ignore the issue then.

If it's going free to play will be announced. This isn't some massive conspiracy you need to uncover, an answer will be available and probably very soon.

I repeat "not meaningful" but let's put that 11 million into perspective. The current working population is 11.6 million. That's less than half the population of New York or put another way a mere 3% of the US's population alone. Now how many of them would be interested in ESO and haven't gotten it yet? Not many, IMO, so who cares if EB or Harvey Norman pulls it off the shelves, which are 95% devoted to console games anyway?

Don't misunderstand me, I'm not dissing Australia, just the notion that the stores in Australia have such a meaningful impact on overall sales that their pulling anything off the shelves are an indicator of anything other than they are going out of business.

    #Edit:
    UrQuan wrote: »
Combine that with the fact that for the majority of the population of Australia peak gaming hours would be at a vastly different time from peak gaming hours for most of the population that plays on the NA megaserver, as well as being vastly different from peak gaming hours for most of the population that plays on the EU megaserver, and then combine that with the latency that I'm sure Australians get from those servers, and it seems to me like ESO would sell pretty poorly in Australia.
Nah. It's actually pretty reasonable playing it on the NA Servers because our peak is generally in your early morning. The EU server I have found only to be playable in their early morning which is in the middle of the day, which I attribute to the connectivity to EU.

Is it a shocker ESO isnt doing well in Australia? As far as I know ESO doesnt have a server there do they? So the lag is probably intense for them if they have to use the EU or NA server. So its no wonder its not selling as well as it did in places they have servers.

When I hear that its been pulled from all American stores then I will start to wonder whats going on. Its just silly to claim that since a couple chains supposedly pulled all copies that the game is going f2p. Why arent they pulling it from Gamestop in America?
