REPORT: THE ELDER SCROLLS ONLINE PULLED FROM MORE AUSTRALIAN STORES

May not be part of a normal stock recall.
More Australian video game retail chains are reportedly pulling The Elder Scrolls Online from stores, following last week’s reports that EB Games was removing stock of the MMORPG from sale.

A JB Hi-Fi source told Games.On.Net today that TESO copies were pulled from shelves late last week and “are to be kept out back ‘until further notice.’”

A source at another Australian retail franchise, Harvey Norman, told the publication that that “all game cards and copies were pulled out of Harvey Norman, and the ONLY reason that would happen is because it has become a free product”. The source added they had seen the clearout’s paperwork confirmation and that “if it was being brought out in a different format, it’d have a price drop, not a recall."

Yes, because IGN is a super authoritative and reliable news site.

I love all these "sources" who are just retail workers with no idea of what's going on, just following orders passed down to them and sprinkling conjecture around like pepper.

To help put this in perspective. I live in Australia so I can tell you from first hand experience that both of those chains have still been selling ESO with the pre-order explorer's pack included from April to now. In other words they ordered so many pre-release copies that they haven't even sold all of them yet.

It really is a case of too much stock not enough purchases in Australia.

A source close to a web browser has reported that Elder Scrolls Online games and time cards are available for purchase from the Bethesda Softworks store. The source has also confirmed that retail outlet Best Buy has Elder Scrolls Online game cards in the stores.

Thanks OP. I've read that the reason it's being pulled in Australian stores first is because of their strong consumer protection laws which mandate stuff like this when a product is about to have a major change in how it's sold. This makes sense for it to start occurring there first.

I like how the story IGN posts is basically just the same thing over and over, but adding a bit more each time.

First they posted about the six month subscription.

Then they posted about EB Games pulling stock, and referring to it as part of a regular stock recall. When that article was posted, it was sure to tack in the unrelated point about the six month subscription.

Now they are posting about other Australian chains pulling the game for uncertain reasons, and plugging in the previous two articles in order to expand the content of the story.

At this rate, she may have a full article worth of content slapped together for the site in another week or so.

AHAHAHAHAHAHAA. Yes a dinky little country with 20 million people and a computer gaming base which might be close to 1 million if they are extremely lucky has stores pulling games from the shelves. This has meaning because after all we have such a meaningful market here in Australia. WTF would I buy the game off the shelf when I can get it from ZoS or Steam and the games on the shelves are 99% console?

Combine that with the fact that for the majority of the population of Australia peak gaming hours would be at a vastly different time from peak gaming hours for most of the population that plays on the NA megaserver, as well as being vastly different from peak gaming hours for most of the population that plays on the EU megaserver, and then combine that with the latency that I'm sure Australians get from those servers, and it seems to me like ESO would sell pretty poorly in Australia.
