Which laptop can smoothly run ESO on ultra?

I'm going to buy an expensive gaming laptop, so will appreciate it if some of you can recommend a laptop, as "cheap" as possible, in the range between 2-3 thousand dollars, which can run ESO in a way that is totally and completely smooth.

In other words, can you please recommend a laptop that you have tested thoroughly and know with one hundred certainty that it's able to run ESO on ultra-settings in a way that is smooth in such a degree that it will satisfy your average high-end gamer (not counting lag and stuttering caused by the occasional low ping.)

In particular, since ESO is cpu intensive, is it necessary to buy a laptop with the Intel i7-4980HQ which has a turbo boost of 4.0 ghz? Or is the 4710HQ, with a turbo boost of 3.5 ghz, enough to run ESO smoothly, without microstuttering, on ultra?

Please provide an accurate answer, because I don't want to invest three thousand dollars on a computer and then get the reply: "Oh, we are sorry that the laptop we recommended didn't work sufficiently after all".

Appreciate your help.

Hi @ChaosWotan‌ , while we are unable to provide any recommendations on hardware and systems, I'm sure that our community here can provide some great advice! Good luck on your new system!

Understand that you can't recommend any particular company, but can you at least confirm that you have thoroughly tested that a high-end laptop can run ESO smoothly on ultra settings? And provide the general specifications of that laptop, like how much ghz the cpu had, without mentioning whether you used an Intel or AMD for instance. Thanks!

I have played eso for 8 months on medium settings at 23 fps and now i have a new pc with ultra settings and steady 60 fps. I play better and die way less often, so i see your point, good luck with finding a good one!

Want desktop performance in a laptop? How about the ability to upgrade key components like graphic cards or processers without having to buy a new unit. 3 years back I discovered a company called Sager Notebooks this place was a dream come true for me . This kinda sounds like I'm a rep lol

Anyways check out www.sagernotebook.com. WARNING!!! they are not cheap my latest laptop cost around 4300$ with a intell extreme processor and dual nvidia 880m cards I think they have the 900 series now.

I think there is a reseller called pcpower or something that has some extra cool features like adding heatsinks and custom carbon fiber case stuff like that

I use a custom built sager from xoticpc.com very please, bought it just after game release because my old one wasn't running graphics high enough.

Max settings 60fps quad core extreme i7 with dual hyperthreaded graphics cards....they can talk to you on the phone to recommend the best product for your purpose with you budget...very professional imho

Shipping can be slow though ... A month from placing order to receiving the item in my case. Much better than alienware or any other custom builder for quality, options and price. Again my opinion.

Thanks for replies! I will check out Sager, definitely. I'm aware that ESO is not optimized. Have earlier written this article here:

    http://forums.elderscrollsonline.com/discussion/143478/elder-scrolls-lag-with-690-sli-4790k

So I don't expect much actually, but was satisfied with the smoothness of BF3 on ultra, so will appreciate it if others can tell what kind of CPU they use to get similar smoothness in ESO, if that is possible at all, (outside Cyrodill and other ares where internet connectivity becomes an issue).

I'm kind of hoping, in a naive way, that it's my custom built desktop that causes the problems with ESO, and that a laptop from Asus or MSI, the G751JY or the GT72, will be good enough to get similar smoothness as in BF3 for example. Which is a naive hope, I know, since the ghz of these laptop CPUs is lower than my overclocked desktop running 4.6 ghz.

    Anyway, appreciate comments and advice.

I picked up an MSI GS Series GS60 Ghost Pro 3K-095 Gaming Laptop about 2 months ago, after reading really good reviews of it, and it runs on Ultra settings without a hitch. It was about $1700 from NewEgg at the time, so well under your budget, and it's crazy lightweight, under 4.5 pounds not counting power brick. (I bought it because I was about to start traveling internationally, and I wanted something a good gaming system that wouldn't add much weight to my trekking pack.)

It seems to perform well; I load in and out of areas fairly quickly, on par with my desktop-playing friends and the only obvious issues have been lag when I was playing in poor-wifi areas which is hardly the laptop's fault. I haven't seen any visual issues with it at all; it uses a very recent mobile graphics chip, the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 870M 3GB GDDR5. The screen is darker than the desktop+HDTV combo I'd been using, but the colors were much richer, and the detail was finer. I've been really happy with it, and I shared a gaming room last week with a couple of other ESO players and they liked how it looked also.

Update: I should include that the fan is a touch noisy when the system heats up during gameplay. I don't notice it when I'm wearing headphones, and it's not too distracting even when I'm not wearing them, but it's worth noting for completeness.

That's 100% true; the desktop I built was much more powerful. But sometimes you just have to be portable; I'm not lugging that massive desktop with me through the dozen airports I've been through in the last 3 weeks, nor through the streets of Chiang Mai, Thailand! Thankfully, there are laptops now that can do a creditable job.

Not really. They are just huge, heavy, hot and expensive. They can perform just as well as a desktop though.

Basically the adage "We can do anything...that you can afford" applies.

I have a ClevoP650SG (980m + i7 + SSD + 16 Gb RAM), I run at 60 FPS all the time full details, and 20 FPS in very large battles.

I'm running a Razer Blade 2014 because I travel a lot for work. Runs on ultra very well. I used to have a Clevo, but hated lugging that monster around. The blade looks exactly like a flat black MacBook...
