Just curious why. Ive fought other classes that just keep block up and macro in Casts and ability...whilst I block and still take damage.

Im a gimp Stamina build NB, 2h + bow.

Everyone takes damage just blocking. Most likely they have gear or abilities that are better mitigating that reduced damage received from blocking, or have abilities that are healing them.

Also, if you run out of stamina blocking no longer reduces damage, that's why casters often can block longer as they can allocate their whole stamina pool to constant blocking, whereas a DW'er, 2H'er, Bow user, etc. uses up their stamina through abilities.

It's called mitigation. The more you have, the less damage you take. There are skills, passives, and armor sets that give you block/damage mitigation. You were probably fighting someone with 1H + Shield, or a Footman/Hist set, or a Nord with damage mitigation passive.

They are most likely using an ability to absorb the damage. Installing an addon such as combat cloud can make it easier to tell who is absorbing damage and who is simply blocking damage.

    Dharbert has it right.

One hand and Shield has passives that make blocking more effective (plus the extra armour value from the shield).

I just swapped my DK from sword and board to dual weild, and really noticed the difference.

As others have said armour or skill which improve mitigation.

Try throwing caltrops so they're constantly taking hits and blocking, this should burn their stamina faster.

Also you can try spells which don't count as physical attacks and as such can't be blocked.

You can block spells. Cannot block AOE (usually).

The magicka abilties can be cast while blocking, but stamina ones don't, should explain a lot why you take huge damage when you fight back and they don't.
If you are a stamina based NB dodge roll will help you better than block; mass hysteria also since it cannot be blocked.

I've got.mass.hysteria but it seems very ineffective against the smart players. You can.block while feared.

Yeah but they have two choice, they break fear and they lose stam to block, or they don't break and then you can hit them (they lose a bit amount of health even if not huge and they lose also stam blocking) and put another fear at the end of the first one.

Saying that a stam build against a magicka blocking build is not a fair fight you ll lose more than you ll win, but sometimes with experience you can win some. (I talk about fair 1v1 here, of course with stamina builds you ll kill a lot of player thanks to the burst of the stealth opener before they can block)

My sword and shield DK with heavy armor will always take a lot less damage than my light armor sorcerer simply because of the mitigation the shield and armor provide. Even when not blocking, there's a huge difference in how hard things hit the characters. When I'm blocking with a shield and heavy armor along with some of the buffs my DK gets, I can be taking 80% less damage than a blocking sorcerer who is set up for full DPS. Then when you consider any heals I throw on myself, and normal health regen, it really can look at times like my DK is taking no damage.
