What is with the download speeds for ESO updates?

20kB/sec if lucky. If not lucky... "WebGet request failed."

This happens every time. I recently got a new computer and it took 36 hours to install ESO.

The same computer, using the same FIOS Internet connection, can download both World of Warcraft and Steam updates at 18MB/sec (that's my max connection speed). But ESO isn't twice as slow or 10x slower, it's 1000x slower.

Patch and content distribution is a solved problem. Why is it still such a big issue for ESO?

Had the same problem, downloaded the 50gb game off steam at 2.3mbps but then the launcher took 2 days just to get the last 5gb of updates which wouldn't go higher then 20kbps...

I can't believe where paying 15 bucks a month for this kind of bandwidth, most f2p games don't update this slow... and now I can't even play because I've been stuck in the loading screen all day since the patch v_v

    Hi there guys,

We invite you to try out this article, it may help you to improve your downloading performances.

Also, it's possible to increase the downloading rate by running your Launcher, Game Options (right corner at the top) and then tweak the max downloading.

If your issue still occurs, please let us know, we'll be glad to help you further.

You are seriously asking people to run a regular program with administrator privileges and to disable virus protection for the duration of a large download to improve the download speed? I am sorry, but this makes me really wonder how your network code was written, and it makes me even more wary of granting it administrator privileges. I may be more paranoid than most because I am running ESO on a computer I actually need for other purposes, but seriously, running a game with administrator privileges should be a thing of the past.

ESO is very strange when it comes to updates. I almost think they throttle the updates somehow. I can download most things at 2mb+ a second and eso is anywhere from 30k to 1mb with averages probably around 300k. I thought it was my isp at first but I'm not convinced anymore.

"Our game requires you to be connected to the Internet. We recommend that you disable virus protection and run as administrator."

Yes, that is incredibly, phenomenally irresponsible. Also, since I have a new computer that I knew was getting reinstalled anyway, I was able to try it to confirm that it is not only bad advice, it also makes no difference at all.

The problem is not with the computer. It is with your download servers. Find out what Steam and Blizzard and the rest of the professionals are doing, and then do that.

Also, the highest option below "Unlimited" (what it is set at) in the Maximum Download option is 1/15th of my connection speed. Albeit still well over 100x faster than your actual download speeds. The slowest option would still be a massive improvement.

But you can add that setting to the list of things that make no difference.

I think they are just not willing to pay for enough surge bandwidth to handle patch releases.

It might be helpful if people post there IP and Metro area. That way we could see where the problem is.

    Norther Nv.
    Charter.
No slow downs or patch issues I have noticed.

I live alone so no competition on my local network and I have this system as #1 in QOS.

Horrible, nothing helps. Returned after 7 months and now I need to update game client but the speeds are ridicilous. Currently max speed is 240kB/s. Need half a day to download 6GB.

Did all as asked, contacted support and its same. I test speed at speedtest.com and it is normal. Everything else it downloads at full speed except ESO update.

Is there any fix to this? Or am I condemnd to loose two days of play time just for update game client

Who is your provider? What is your official speed?

Same problem for me and I have a 1Gbps/1Gbps fiber to the home connection. My ISP is working with Level3 and cannot find anything wrong with the lines or my route to the servers. Yet downloading for the past 1 1/2 months is from 6kB/s to 12kB/s for me. I submitted tickets and ZOS says it is my connection but I never had ANY issues until 1 1/2 months ago. Level3 can verify my speeds if they need it and the route tests as well.

I am returning to game after a long break. Started my download and I have to say nothing has improved since initial launch. When the patcher is "Downloading" (which I assume is the core files) I get 2.5 MB/s max (not as bad as some I know). When the patcher is "Applying Patch" I get up to 50 MB/s. :/ WTF is up with that. Same server IP but a 99%decrease in speed depending on what it is downloading at the time? This kind of garbage has been an Issue since launch. They refuse to acknowledge they have an issue, and refuse to do anything about it.

Make a torrent for your game already. It's not hard, takes only a few minutes. Add it to your site as an "Alternate Download method" and see the happy people. People like me will host the torrent along with thousands of others, reducing the load on your servers, and probably saving you money. Why a game company in 2016 uses the OLD (1990) method of downloading their game is beyond me. Get out of the past and get into the present guys.

Is there actually anything you can do to increase download speed without risking your computer?????
