I've had guilds kick me because I didn't use anim. cancelling. "Oh, you can only do 900dps sustained? If you do anim. cancelling you can go to 1,400+. Until you learn how to play you're not worth keeping. " and bam... kicked.
Not a big deal, but I find it stupid there's so many groups that won't let you join/group unless you're exploiting a flaw in the animation system. It's frustrating.
Devs said at some point (cant find sauce) that animation cancelling is... INTENTIONAL
Which means:
They have no idea how to fix it.
Thats why I tank. I refuse to use macros.

My bad on intentional thingie.
Still issue remains. At the moment when you apply to any raiding guild first question asked is "what macros do you use" . They dont even hide with it.
I hear they are introducing new animations with update 6. We'll see how that works. Will they only be cosmetic?

To be honest - you cant be actually sure who does and who doesn't use macros. There is no way to tell in static combat.
Problem is - they are very popular.
Too many resources and weapons don't do more damage than skills. There need to be a reason for using weapons light attack/heavy, OTHER THAN for supplementing a spam skill/spell like jabs or funnel health or IMPULSE holy cripe....but wait....you elitist jerks will never go for this, because you LIKE spamming abilities. And you would rather eso was more like WoW than an Elder Scrolls title. ("psh nubs I shouldn't have to actually push my attack, it should just happen automatically, so I can spam impulse" - afformentioned elitist jerk). You want animation clipping and huge resource pools, go play another game like WoW or LOTRO, that way you can spam away and you wont even have to worry about "nubs" not canceling attacks! Because the game attacks for you!
Sorry rant...i strongly dislike elitist players, ruining a game for the "99 percenters" just because they want a difficult mechanic to set them apart, and because they have so much time on their hands they can afford to play 80+ hours a week. Even the devs believe these guys are more important than us, just listen to the guild summit, they refer to casuals like they are disgusted with them

Speaking for sorcerer magicka DPS here, the current crushing shock meta is very dull.
- light attack
- crushing shock
- repeat, while keeping critical surge up (15s cd)
It gets boring after the first 5000 times.
Can someone explain to a noob what this "animcanceling" is?
