Achievement - Refinement

Can someone please clarify how the refinement achievement works? Does it count items refined in stacks of 10 or as individual items? Currently my progress bar is showing 81 items refined and given I am a Master Blacksmith who is constantly refining ore this doesn't sound quite right.

You refine 10 ore at a time, but you only push refine once.
So every 10 raw material would count as 1 in the achievement, so to max it out you would need to refine 10000 pieces of raw material.

If only this were true :(. The Master of Refinement achievement requires 3000 refinements, which translates into 30,000 raw material. Considering I was at level 50 in all the crafts that refine and had the 10,000 node harvester achievement, I feel a little raw at how ZOS handled this achievement, forcing everyone to start at zero regardless of past crafting history. I've been working my adze off since the patch and only recently hit 1000 refinement mark. I think I'm not alone. So many mats are being refined, I've seen prices for refined mats tumble in guild stores. Even saw one joker selling his ingots for 399g. Guess he didn't know vendors pay 400g without a listing fee :).

This is one of the Achievements I group with ones like doing 10,000,000 damage in a dungeon. If I ever get it, I will have to take a long hard look at my life and wonder why I wasted so much of it pressing a button over and over again in a game.

Some Achievements are just unreasonable in what they want.

It's not a horrible amount, but what bugs me is that all the work I've done before counts for nothing. I started at zero with last patch and with a max character I don't refine as much as I used to. Hate it when there is an achievement I should have already, but don't.

ZOS did not keep track of how many refines you had done before this achievement was added, which is why you have to start at 0. Oh how I long for the day when the magical fairy allows us to go back in time and correct all these wrongdoings.

Yes that's pretty much the issue I'm having. All that refinement and decon I have to do all over again if I want to unlock the dyes. It's unfortunate because after hitting lv 50 in Blacksmithing I thought I could finally start selling white drops and turn over some gold but as it turns out I will remain poor for some time yet. Kind of wasteful but oh well :)

At this point I'm just giving away refined mats to lowbies, but that's also because I've been harvesting jute, maple and iron ore in low level zones and I can't use them anyway after I get the hemming, pitch, trait stones, etc from refinement.

That's almost the exact response I got from ZOS...do you work for them? Ever heard of venting? You think there was NO POSSIBLE WAY that ZOS programmers could not have given at least partial credit towards this achievement based on crafting progress and node harvester achievement? Why belittle us because we vent over what we think was unfair? It ain't gonna change what ZOS did, but it makes it easier to swallow a bitter pill.

How would they have known who harvested the mats to refine and who harvested to sell? Also, does the node harvester achievement track the difference between cloth/wood/ore nodes and alchemy/runes? If not, how would they give you credit?

I'm in the same boat you are, but I figure I'll get there eventually, since I can't seem to pass by a harvesting node, whether I need it or not.

Points taken. I thought of the same things. It just feels raw that we got no credit for months of hard work, and they set the bar extremely high to get this achievement. Compare it to Master of Decontruction. We also had to start at zero for that, even though I know I met the requirements. And they set the level at 1000. That was relatively easy to repeat. But for Refinement, if you figure an average of 2 mats per node, we are looking at 15,000 nodes to harvest....ouch, I have blisters on my fingers. Look, I'm working this achievement, just feel the need to vent about it =D.

    Yeah, I know.

Some of these achievements are hard to get.

I'm working on the "unlock 1000 chests", and going for the Daedric Lord Slayer on two characters, but I figure I'm going to be playing this game for a while.

I'm going to check where I'm at with the refinement. Fortunately, I have a few hirelings and they bring me stuff I can refine as well.

You may know already, but the Generals are much easier to find at pre-Vet dolmens. Just be aware players there can get p-ssed if you are high level and clear dolmens on your own. I stood back and cast heals unless I was alone.

And Kenarthi Roost has more chests than mudcrabs. I keep finding more spots. Also, the more chests you open, the fewer master and advance chests you will see. I see maybe 1 or 2 advanced chests in a month, and haven't seen a master in months.

Yeah, I know that. It's one reason why my lvl 42 is working on the achievement now, so that she's not too overleveled. With my VR character, I try to either get the dolmen that's most out of the way or, if there are at level players around, I will summon shades and heal. Of course, if it's just me and an at level player, I'll pitch in and let them have the pinions, as my main already has the chainbreaker achievement (I ran around the dolmens in Cyrodiil when they were pretty easy).

My main should be able to go to Khenarthi's Roost in a week or so (that's Zone 3 for me), but I have a good chest run in Bal Foyen as well.

Hm all damage achieves are extremely fast to get except the 100 000 000 damage in pvp.

If you are doing a extremely low average dps of lets say 500 for every sec of a dungeon run. Really easy to get with AOE on dungeon trash. The 10mill gives ~10000000/(500*60s/m*60m/h)~5.55h ~5 1/2 hours of running dungeons. Not exactly a long time.

I have noticed lately that I need to pretty much relog to see the counter change on this achievement. Or, perhaps just poke around in the UI looking at other screens does it. But when the counter does show that it went up, I am no where near a crafting station.

I still don't think it is counting all the operations either.

LOL. I was farming a delve for Warlock Rings during the Exp weirdness of the last two patches. I had hit the 1,000,000 damage just as I started this project. It was about 5 months after I first rolled the character. Just over one month later I hit the 10,000,000 Dungeon Damage, just from this one delve. Got 6 Warlock Rings out of all those mobs.

Enjoy the game, life is what you really want to be worried about.
