How about an update for us console players?

Hey ZoS,

How about showing a little love to your console players, maybe a little tidbit of info? maybe a little glimmer of hope that you are still working on the console version?

Should I feel ripped off that I bought the pc version, just to be able to play and then port over to my ps4, and then thrown aside with no information or reassurances whatsoever? Cause I do.

Please help us out,

Signed, A beloved Console Fan.

So very much of THIS! ^^

And, remember, once they go thru their stellar patch process, they have to submit it to Microsoft or Sony to get it to you. I'm gonna enjoy watching the first few times that has to be done.

Im okay with waiting, but there has been no real update since September. Considering that the original pushback date was December which obviously isn't going to be met, some form of update would be nice.

Im more looking forward to just exploring the world in anything above the minimum settings i had to use to play on PC. Collecting Skyshards, Doing all the quests etc.

They can take their time fixing VR and PVP and Itemization, just let me run around in game :)

well, i feel your pain as much but since they said last time that they would be coming out with the console version last june/july? cant remember much.
its pretty much going to be a long time considering this game is as by far as being complete so having it on consoles will just increase the work for zos

    Originally It was June/July.

Then they said it would be another 6 months (dec), but you could buy pc and port over (fraudulent advertising if no console version is released?).

Since then, the only thing they have said was in Oct (a month ago) saying info "soon" TM.

The guys at Podcast Beyond (IGN's Playstation podcast) are saying it's basically been defacto cancelled:

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sGNYYZcRTo4

I don't know about that. But MS and Sony stopped talking about it last summer, and it hasn't appeared on any of their "Upcoming Releases" lists or presentations since then.

    Heard that too,

but they arent really the most reliable source for ESO related news. Especially with no official work from ZOS.

Edit: and by not the most reliable, i mean its a speculation made by a guy who admits to never having played an MMO.

A console release is definitely more complicated due to MMOs not being "natural" with a controller. You can play pretty much anything using a controller with ease, but the social part of it will have to be via mics, which will need its own sort of ZOS CC.

I'm not saying this is the reason for the delay, but I'm sure it's one of many. Also people gaming on console are "in general" more demanding for immediate gratification. The more content ZOS has to roll out Day 1, the more successful it will be.

Also I'm hoping they are trying to figure out a way to have cross-platform play. While that's just "hopeful" and nothing more, it would definitely be pretty exciting.

I do plan to play on console as well as PC just because I will have plenty of friends playing it on console XB1 that don't on PC (not many of my friends will have it on PS4 as most of them seem to just play single player or sports games) -- although I'm sure there will still be a big market for it. My friends are mostly of PC gaming backgrounds, which usually translates to still plays on PC or now plays on XBox... or all of the systems like me.

Thanks for the response. The communications barriers are definitely something that will be interesting to see how they deal with it.

Your comment on the instant gratification of console gamers is also a very valid point, Destiny is a perfect example of that. The game released with an extremely limited scope of content versus what was promised and gamers have been up in arms with Bungie for the lack of release date content.

Yep and I don't think anyone at Bungie has ever had to deal with such enraged gamers. Halo delivered on what it promised, Destiny was a new ball game and one I don't think they were fully prepared for.

A Destiny release on PC will go smoother (in my opinion). Also you turn on console, you play.. it works with constant FPS (usually). PC users are used to having to tweak things and wait on fixes, etc.. I play in both worlds so I can see the differences --- and both are great in their own ways of course. I would love for everything to work out of the box in the PC gaming world, unfortunately due to everyone not having the same hardware, that just isn't going to happen. At least not until some technologically divine intervention is graced upon us with all of its glory and light beaming down to somehow get around hardware differences as long as minimums are met (and always up to date with the maximums).

As I've become more and more disillusioned with ESO as time goes by, my idea was to cancel my sub and take a break until the console version hits.

Now I don't know what to do.

Was kind of hopeful that things wouldn't get broken so much with MS and Sony (big brother if you like) looking over Zen's shoulder.

Thing is, by the time the console version hits (if it hits) ESO is going to be an old title in a fast moving environment.

    Could it survive ?

The sad part is I contacted support to see if I could put my sub on hold until the console version was released as I am not even playing ATM. No luck, I am stuck paying for time that I originally planned on using on the console during the time I was told it would be available and then not having it available :S

Here is my response. Did you play the console beta anytime in the last 2 months? Don't hold your breathe for them to meet the Dec release because you might suffocate. :o

I think that all the people who bought this game for the PC to play later on the console are going to be missing the PC version after playing on the console for a while.

Enjoy the game, life is what you really want to be worried about.

They wouldn't save face with me though, because if the game isn't in a fit state to be released on console then it isn't in a fit state to be charging people money for the PC version either.

Skyrims sales were 80% console so it would be a really bad move for zos to give up on consoles. I can see it being delayed another six months because we have not had any information on it for months and no beta test for console so far (as far as I am aware). But I can still see it being released on console.

You would think so. But the same could be said for Knights of the Old Republic (most of its sales were on consoles too) and that didn't stop Bioware from releasing its KOTOR MMO on PC-only.

Sounds crazy, but that's the kind of bizarre logic that can come from a company when they start dreaming of huge monthly subscriptions and a WoW-level money printing press that they think an MMO can be. Of course, in their gold fever, they never seem to realize that MMO's cost a FORTUNE to develop--and even more importantly, another recurring fortune to MAINTAIN. It also never occurs to them that WoW is basically a fluke, and that most MMO's never even get to 1 million subscribed users, much less many millions.

Also there seems to be this idea that you simply can't do an MMO on a console (even though there are several examples now of successful console MMO's). It's the same groupthink mentality that you used to encounter when someone brought up the idea of a FPS on a console. "Oh, that's impossible, you could never do a FPS on a console." Then came Halo, of course.
