Sorc caster DPS builds use destro+resto. Critical Surge + Crushing Shock are your main skills afaik. Stack spell crit, weapon power, push magica over soft cap. Aim for about 2.5k health also (when buffed). I don't play a Sorc myself, so someone more knowledgeable will probably come along... But Sorcs I know can easily do 800+ dps with a crushing shock build. While it is generally less than some other classes can do, Sorcs have the benefit of survivability from critical surge, and Supression is a good ultimate for many situations in PvE.
Be a good healer in PvE and you shouldn't have a hard time finding groups! That situation in vet Spindle, my first thought was that possibly that your tank wasn't pulling enough aggro (you need area CC for that fight) and/or was poorly geared for damage migitation+healing taken. But of course it could be something else, given that I have no information beyond your post. Some ideas for the healer... Circle of Protection(could also be used by tank), Combat Prayer?
Edited to add: You might of course know this bit already, but anyway. Most builds in PvE require different traits for gear than PvP, it is generally considered a good idea to use infused on all large pieces and divines on small pieces. The crit trait for weapons.
PS. Tbf, your old favourite saying was kinda offensive, hope it's not your favourite saying any longer
If you want to do trials style DPS, you could also try Spell Symmetry (mages guild skill). It will both swap health for magica and boost the damage of your next spell. Spell symmetry has a long-ish animation but it procs pretty instantly, you can just quickly press block to cancel the animation if you want to. AFAIK most rotations do not use heavy attack. However, in 4-man dungeons there are less situations where you can afford to liberally use Spell Symmetry because it does drain your health. (Note: after using spell symmetry, you can only be healed by others for a short time, no self-heals.) So having the option to restore mana by heavy attacks is good for several situations.
Also, Inner Light on both bars obviouslyOh and almost forgot, Flawless Dawnbreaker as your ultimate on Destro bar for the damage increase passive. The ulti you'll actually use will go on the off bar. Atronach and Supression are both useful in different situations. I'll leave it to an actual sorc player to comment more on the class skills, I've seen both Mage's Fury and Crystal Shards be used as executes.
It does sound a bit like it wasn't just a healing problem in Spindle for you. In that situation, DPS should help interrupt healer and caster mobs (Crushing shock is ideal for that). But I know many, many groups had problems with that fight, so it's not like it's a super easy one.
Warlock does not really have anything to boost your damage, it is not considered good for PvE if you do want to maximize your DPS. The trials drop Aether (Wise mage set) which has good bonuses. Until then there are craft set pieces you can combine to maximise your spell critical. I think there are some PvP sets too that are good for spell crit.

As far as build goes, you can pretty much play how ever you want. Just pick something that you would like to be. You then mess around with it until you don't die all the time. Good luck!

Ha, I used to be big into both sides of the game in other MMOs Tanking is by far the fastest way to have a PvE burnout because it's always your fault (even if you are last man standing from a perfectly positioned threat held boss) but the waiting, the vent talk not being able to punch my music whilst playing/ general dribble spoken on there and the fact 2 people not knowing how to play could wipe up to 23 others upset me a lot.
I always liked Healing and Tanking more than DPS because it felt like even if you had a perfect rotation interacted when needed and stayed out of red you were playing on an easier mode, where as tanking and healing were steps up each time. As a healer you can really see what's going on, who is doing or not doing the wrong thing and where the group needs to improve/what they are doing well,Great standpoint.
So DPS will probably the best way to ease back into the PvE groove.

For ults, when using your staff abilities always have Flawless Dawnbreaker.. it doesnt increase your weapon damage stat, it simply causes weapon attacks to deal more damage, so even if your hard capped with weapon damage it will give you a boost.
Off bar should always be a healing staff in my opinion.. the option to spam a few healing springs is a god send in most situations. and the bar is often where i place my tactical ultimate..
I use Storm Atro for single target fights like bosses, since i can drop it and have it add its dps to the DPS i am doing with crushing shock weaving.
Negate is very useful when you are facing waves of trash enemies, and need a quick breather
Overload light attacks have insanely sustainable single target DPS and heavy attack is very strong AOE, and with crit surge you will usually be able to heal any damage you can possibly take..
Crit Surge is a must, build with a focus on spell damage and crit and let Crit Surge cap your Weapon damage.. this will give you high Damage on Endless Fury and from your Atro, while not skimping on the damage form the staff... and 65% of damage cause from crits as a heal is literally god mode at times in PvE...
@Wisler89 I don't mind Magnus, I think seducer is more effective though!
[snip] I have decided to give PvE another go problem is after high bracket arena in wow, rated in swtor and now ALOT of AvAvA in ESO I really don't know where to start!
I have a sorc whom I would be DPSing on with resto staff x 2 atm I don't mind throwing a destro staff in there to sub one resto staff out as its also maxed 50/50 my weapon skills however are sub standard. so basically what sort of build and rotation to achieve high single target DPS?
I also have a templar whom I would prefer to heal on how ever, tried vet spindle today got to the third boss (starts off with a gazillion spiders) and my group were going from 100%-0%hp in about two seconds spamming breath of life was only slowing their rapidly decreasing health and jarring my mana. Any tips for this and other situation like this to heal?
My temp is maxed in Bow, 2H, 1h and shield, also resto staff any tips should I want to DPS there would also be appreciated!
Thank.you.pve'ers.
