Weapon Swap issue...Unrelated to stealth

Every single time I swap weapons I freeze. I am not doing this from stealth, I am a templar healer. No add ons..I know the rules on patch day, gotta disable those bad boys haha. Anyway, I tried searching for the topic and the only thing I found was one person complaining of the same but no green update of at least acknowledging it. All I see them acknowledging is the stealth weapon swap issue. Is this one of those not effecting many or what.. It's incredibly frustrating. I always said how perfect ESO would be if I could just have ONE more slot and now I am down 5. Eeek! lol

Note: The first place I checked was the known bugs for this recent patch forum page. Holy crap talk about a run on sentence. Anyway, as stated previously there was nothing about weapons swapping WITHOUT being in stealth. Please forgive if this is basically another duplicate post. I just really need my "buff bar" back haha. I had to literally unequip my offhand staff so that I didn't keep switching and locking up in the vet dungeons last night.

Hi there,
i have similar problems since the new patch. After playing a while the whole game or better say my whole computer starts stuttering..(little freezes like a lag) when swapping weapons...if i continue then with 2-3 weapon swaps the freezes get longer till i have to shut down the game over the task manager, wich shows incredible high cpu peaks the time before..seems not have to do something with the kind of weapon..and it appears in pve and pvp..maybe that helps somehow..Greetings

hey there! Thank you so much for the response first off. It's really odd. It's ONLY happening to me in combat in dungeons it seems. If I try switching my weapons at all during combat I completely lock up. No combat sounds, movement, lag, just a complete lock up.

I will list the spells I have on each bar in case it might be one of those.

Bar 1 Resto Staff - Breath of life, inner light, ritual of rebirth, (I was using purifying ritual in place of this when the problem first started) healing springs, and my last spot was either blazing spear or mutagen. I switched those spells periodically throughout the dungeon (vet wayrest sewer) and I locked up with all the spells.

Bar 2 resto staff - siphon spirit - inner light - power of the light, bone surge, and repentance.

ults are solar prison and remembrance.

I apologise for the book I just wrote, but I figured listing everything I can might help to find the problem. I have been in combat in open world periodically today and besides occasional lag between switching weapons I haven't locked up entirely. However I did enter a dungeon, (elden hollow) and encountered the same locking issue again.

I have the same issue. It happens both in PvP, as well as in Veteran dungeons. I have not (yet) observed the issue during open world questing.
I use completely different skills for PvP and PvE, so I don't believe the problem is related to the skills on my bar.
The problem only occurs after I have spend close to an hour playing either in cyrodiil or instances. Initially, the bug manifests as a tiny, almost imperceptible screen freeze when swapping weapon bars. But, with each subsequent weapon swap, the time of the freeze increases. I can usually reach 30 seconds to 1 minute of "completely locked up computer" time, triggerable at will by weapon swapping. After that, weapons swapping will cause ESO to crash to desktop.

The problem can be "resolved" at any time, by simply closing and restarting the game

Agreed with Morvul, it can definitely be remedied by a restart but that isn't exactly a viable solution when you are in the middle of a boss fight or a massive battle in Cyro. I haven't personally had my game cause me to crash like Morvul yet though *knocks on wood* just the complete lock up. Thus far the lockups are lasting no longer than 20 seconds for me and I am able to move again.

Getting same thing, just to confirm and add to the prevalence of the bug. I was in vet wayrest sewers and all of a sudden each weapon swap would lock me up longer and longer until the game froze for a few minutes, but I stayed logged in. So I decided to not weapon swap, as we were at a boss and I didn't wanna relog, but I forgot while playing, tried to swap and froze for another few min and then totally crashed. Luckily my group was patient

I had this happen to me last night while I was inside Bthanual. It seemed like the duration of the freeze following each swap had a longer duration. Only the video froze - the audio seemed to continue without issue as far as I could tell given not being able to see what was happening. I managed to make about six weapon swaps before the game crashed to desktop and the Windows crash message appeared. After I re-logged it was fine for the rest of the evening.

If the weapons/abilities make a difference, I have sword+board on one bar and bow on the other. My bars also have two different ultimate abilities slotted with different ultimate point requirements.

I've had this too (although my main issue with Weapon Swap is it breaking stealth).

I started getting freezes of increasing duration (15-20 seconds) for a while before a complete crash; fortunately it hasn't happened since.

Happened to me twice so far since patch... each time after playing a long time (2+ hours at least). Exactly as OP described it.
Once it starts every new weapon swap (attempt) makes it worse until a client restart is the only option left.

I bet this is a side effect of trying to fix the weapon swapping while in stealth bug... But now it's all broke: Buh. Roke. (Not to be confused with Boroque.)

Happens to me too today, whenver I swap weapons my game freezes for 2-10 seconds it seems. As if about to crash..then kinda recovers, until the next weapon swap.

Oh man. Sorry that this is happening to y'all too but I gotta admit I'm a little relieved to not be alone haha. I agree about the lag. It was definitely longer each time I weapon swapped.

I've had it again today. For me the game freezes for about 15 seconds on the first swap then about 25 seconds on the next and so on until the game freezes completely and after about a minute I'm logged out.

This game is so broken on so many levels it's unreal!

This really needs sorting NOW!.

I ran Spindleclutch and Banished Cells earlier and I can at least report that I am not completely locking up now but there is so much lag between weapon swaps I might as well be. All I can do is run around like a mad woman waiting for my bar to change so I can heal. I just can't use my utility bar at all in vet dungeons now. The lag between weapon swaps is just too massive. This is INCREDIBLY frustrating.

Thanks so much for the additional responses. We certainly understand that this issue is extremely frustrating and hope to be able to help.

It seems we have two different issues that are being reported in this thread. The original is a game freeze when weapon swapping, and some additional reports have included general lag when weapon swapping. We'd like to focus on the freeze, but if you're experiencing the lag please give a shot to these steps as well and let us know if they help!

First, we'd like to check if you guys are using any add-ons. If so, please give a shot to disabling all of them (even if they don't affect your combat bars) and try to play for an extended duration.

If this helps with the freezes, it may just be an out of date add-on that's causing the problem. If the issue persists, please let us know and we'll be happy to dig into this further.

it happens as well when I call my ultimate if I am getting low on magic and the fight might take a little longer, that is energy-overload, everything gets dark, worst case is the error that ESO isn´t working anymore and after I logg in again, see that I died cuase for nothing.

I already have disabled my addons. I said that in my original post. I haven't been using any of my addons since the patch went live. It happened to me again last night in Spindle. Seems to be only hitting me in combat in the vet dungeons

This has been plaguing me as well in Cyrodiil. Everything works fine for an hour or two then I notice a stutter with my weapon swap. Then its a second or two, then ten, then 30 or so. Then I am dead and cursing zos.

I experienced the weapon swap freeze issue with no addons enabled. My friend also had it happen to him with no addons. A third friend of mine had the issue as well, but didn't test without addons yet. Please look into this!
