Why've they nerfed Death Stroke?

Death Stroke used to deal around 475 points of damage but this would scale up (to around 270%) with the ultimate charge. It was a handy amount of damage for an Ultimate skill but still poor when considering that Soul Assault with deal over 2000 damage in a single attack.

In their wisdom ZOS have decided that Death Stroke will now simply deal an extra 35% damage with no scaling; to my mind this makes Death Stroke hardly Ultimate at all an relegates it to not far above a standard skill attack!

    Well, an Ultimate isn't necessary a big bang skill that you use once in a while. I think they meant for DS to be used as a rotation skill to buff single target damage.

    Also, soul assault isn't really a good comparison. It's a channelled skill. It's not a BAM! 2700 damage. It can be interrupted, or mitigated.

    Yeh a 35% extra damage buff that can be kept up 100% of the time even by a low ultimate generating stamina build is nothing.

    I do carry the morph that passively increases Ultimate charge on kills, so I guess I should be looking to use it regularly as it certainly charge quickly.

    Hahahaha are you kidding me? Death Stroke is super useful in pvp... Nightblades have the 3, amazing, super cheap ultimates. The new 20% damage boost for 6 seconds is *** good. I don't see how reduced cost for more damage is a nerf...

    No, fair enough, looking at the new tool tip it does seem pretty useful (reasonable damage, reduction to healing and an increase to damage done for 6 seconds).

    Yep... Ambush, death stoke, killers blade is usually enough to ruin anyone's day.

    Nope. I was visibly buffed.compare to what it was after the old stealth attack nerf.Now you can get ~1k hit ,healing debug and a 20% damage increase for 6 seconds every few seconds compared to maybe at most 1.3k if you overcharged like crazy. Templars and DKs have never been so easy to kill for non pansy non sneaky NBs. . I used it for 6hours and kicked major amounts of a$$ on NA thorn. Ambush+Soul Harvest+Swallows soul+(Absorb Magicka if needed)+Sap Sap Sap+Ambush+ Soul Harvest +swap Blur swap+ Absorb Magicka +Ambush+Soul Harvest+Swallows soul +sap sap sap........
    It's starting to come close to my DKs in terms of going head first into danger.If I had a way of reflecting arrows it would have deen equal.

    It still has some problems though mostly the animation is way to long and it appears that people can just move out of it sometimes.

    The problem I have with this is just the long time the animation takes. It's okay as a finishing blow when I'm probably already out of resources and the enemy is very likely about to regroup and become a threat.

    But mid-fight or early fight, it's a delay that I don't want when I've got a stunned opponent.

    Just my opinion. Not the end of the world. I wouldn't call it a nerf or a buff. But I wish it had remained unchanged.

    Call my cynical if you will, but I had heard the change was because it wasn't always working as the tooltip stated it would and rather than fix it, they changed it to something different that was simpler to implement.

    It isn't a nerf, it's a buff. It hits as hard now at 50 Ultimate as it would at 150 Ultimate, still has a heal debuff and now buffs your damage for the next few hits which stacks with Ambush.

    its an actual buff, it never did 270% additional dmg but 270 points of additional dmg when used at 1000ulti while its additional dmg followed an exponential function most of the time you´ve seen less than 100points of increased dmg (500-600pointsulti) so instead of <575 dmg (most of the time) you are facing 641 all the time now...
    would love to see more nerfs like that to my skills ^^

    I haven;t tested it. But I presume would be DS 20% for 6s+Ambush for36% next attack so 56% on the third.

    yeah if you use DS then ambush... it is usually the other way around so the DS deals more damage though since its one of the heaviest dmg skills...

    Yeah I just tested it Ambush stacks during that 6 seconds for 56% damage on the Ambush follow up.Stealth Ambush+SH+Ambush +Whatever can get pretty crazy.
    Conclusion a really nice buff.

    Ambush, Soul Harvest, Ambush, Swallow Soul = a ton of pain for them and a 200 HOT for you. So far I've managed a 350 HOT from it.

    Doesn't ambush still get wasted by light attacks? If so, it's not really a big advantage sadly.

    ambush a has a cast time so it allows you to use death stroke instantly without having to weave a light attack.

    a good combination I used to do was Ambush,Surprise Attack, Ambush, Shadowy disguise, Death Strike. When DS was fully charged it dealt MASSIVE damage since def down + 100% crit + dmg bonus (from both charging the ult and ambush) :smile: at vet 1 I almost killed a boss in vet1 zone with this simple combo, lets just say that most of the job was done right there

    in pvp, if you crit with DS after ambush you're hitting for 1.5k easy... I hit for 1.8k... kind of takes the sport out of it... also... with soul harvest, you generate the 50 ult back just by using killers blade... or enough to where your next opener will top you off

    in pvp, if you crit with DS after ambush you're hitting for 1.5k easy... I hit for 1.8k... kind of takes the sport out of it... also... with soul harvest, you generate the 50 ult back just by using killers blade... or enough to where your next opener will top you off

    Shhhhh Jac, go easy on them. Let them think its a nerf. I want more "DK are OP threads" when NBs fail to realize their huge burst potential as key to defeating DKs in a fight.

    How much HP do you have? less than 4k? yeah I would insta kill you haha.... I'm also a fairly skill duelist... But until they fix weapon swap breaking stealth I'm no doing anything too involved in cyrodiil.
