Console Discussion Forum (December-ish)?

Just a heads, up console game design is actually easier than PC game design. The console uses a fixed set of hardware, a known configuration that can be built for and optimized. ZOS's issue that they needed "about six more months" to contend with issues specific to the console were drawn from them being unfamiliar with console game design...and the fact that the build they have even right now is buggy, incomplete, and imbalanced. They need time to kick all the bugs out, put all the features in, and balance the game, before they go to console, simple as that. The actual prepping the build for console should be a walk in the park compared to getting it running on PC, problem is what they have to put on console right now will end up in a WalMart bargain bin faster than you can spell D-E-S-T-I-N-Y.

This is likely why they're adding so many features before getting the build to console. If they really want to compete for the holiday season money train, they need something cool that no one else is offering. Specifically the crime system and spell crafting. Notice they're prioritizing things in development that only ESO does, and trying to expand on what it can't do as well as it's competitors (yes Destiny has end game raids that will take hours to complete and trails are the best ESO has to compare hence update 4). I'd even expect a UI overhaul before the game goes to console to really bring out the style of ESO. The product is all potential with no "POP" no "Look what I can do!" appeal. They're working on that, but it's uncertain that'll be doable within the year. I'd say it's not likely, but I've been wrong before.

    Quote from Zenimax

"The Elder Scrolls Online officially launched on April 4, 2014 on PC and Mac," it read. "While it has become clear that our planned June release of the console versions isn't going to be possible, we have made great progress, we have concluded that we'll need about six more months to ensure we deliver the experience our fans expect and deserve."

I take "versions" to suggest a different build and the other comments solidify that it had to be redone as what they had didn't pass certification for either console.

No, Version means just that, a version of the game, if they have to change a few bits, then it's another Version. Given that Consoles use a different control system, that alone would make it another version.

Now they haven't said how much needs changing/fixing, or what the issues are, and al the speculation in the world won't give you that info.

The fact is the information plain simply isn't out there.

A console only forum might make sense. Dunno how big the fanbase for it is, but they'll likely add those categories at some point to the forum structure.

    ...but...

Destiny is the most pre ordered game in history.

Console ESO will be contending with a $500 million dollar competitor that isn't just going to be kicking into high gear late Q3-Q4 with their upcoming console launch, they are going to be turning and burning into the PC market with Steam distribution. Bungie is aiming to storm the market with a truly next generation title that is every bit a large scale social massively multiplayer experience with plenty of small group and solo content as you'd expect from a MMO. They avoid the term MMO like the plague instead using terms like "Shared World Shooter", but it is no doubt a major competitor with the modern MMO market, which includes ESO.

I wouldn't expect to see ESO go to console any where near the launch window of Destiny. Activision will drown out any marketing they do, and will eat up a massive chunk of the market, dragging traditional FPS players and traditional MMO players together into a massive extremely high quality game. Destiny is the next big thing in gaming, it is the elephant in the room, and everyone working on a comparative product gunning for that market that's smart should be nervous as ***.

You sound exactly as I figure a bungie sales rep hijacking these forums to promote their title would sound. You could not be more transparent that way, does not matter that you probably am not because that is exactly how you sound.

Don't get me wrong, I am excited for that game too. Going to be going through it with my two brothers. Only I think you are wrong, because the thing bungie is doing, different as it is with that title does not really make it a actual MMO. I have played the beta. You have 4 emotes, and you cant actively use furniture, or have a in game home, or many of the stables of the modern MMO. If anything, Destiny toys at pretending to be a bit MMO alike. And certainly has very few RPG elements to speak of.

Oh boy, that's what they always say in horror movies right before everything goes very bad. ;-)

I call it like I see it. Watching the gaming market is my hobby. Possibly more so than actually gaming itself.

As for your opinion, emotes and furniture usage do not make a game any more MMO than anything else. Those are RPG elements, Role Playing elements to be more specific, not even really Game elements unless your playing the SIM's and there's actual mechanics for using furniture and emoting. The fact you can find emotes at all in Destiny indicates there are RP elements in the game, and when you find gear to equip, levels to gain, and stats to manage, you observe the RPG elements to the game. It's certainly in the weight class of massively multiplayer with large numbers of players sharing game spaces and playing together, so if you call it like you see it its an MMORPG. The twist is there's about 80% shooting a gun and rocking and rolling like a traditional shooter and 20% using "space magic" abilities. So in the end it plays more like a FPS than a RPG, but it's really more an RPG that happens to be an FPS. Take away the guns and give everyone swords and it's completely an RPG.

Destiny is frankly showing off how far outside of the genres they stand and the market has shown them an overwhelming response. It's a different animal entirely than what the market is accustomed to. The Planetside series was a fair introduction to this style of game, but SOE didn't come close to Bungies quality, game formula, or Activision backed business strategy. There's really very little in the market that comes close to resembling Destiny, and of that none of it with the production quality or budget of Destiny. It's a big risk diving $500 million dollars deep into unexplored waters, but it's the right game, for the right market, at the right time. The market has already agreed making Destiny the most preordered game in history. With COD: Ghost seeing a $1 Billion dollar sales figure on day one, Destiny is in line to break that record.

Like it or not Destiny is coming, and it'll be as much a recognizable a name as Halo, Call of Duty, or World of Warcraft. It's genuinely time for people to see what these next gen consoles can do, and Destiny is going to be the first big step into that arena. It's really an interesting time in gaming to see this type of game as well as those like Evolve, breathing new life into the FPS genre in a way RPGs have not since BioWare married them with RTS elements and FPS elements. The industry is changing rapidly and the things on the horizon are going to define the industry thereafter as an even more competitive market.

lmao destiny was a vomit shell of a repetitive game. stopped playing like 3rd week. gameplay gfx and raid content was good but you could see how gutted the game was to sell expansion packs. there idea of adding "content" was a patheticly sad joke. im hoping to bring my account to my ps4. but have been having a great timeon pc since coming back

I know many can care less but for those who do care.

With the recent Forum categories added (big thanks), will there or could there be a Playstation 4 and an Xbox One thread created just before December?

Just hoping for ways to open up conversations about potential migration and news, updates, sticky, guilds, trading. Etc.

*One not limited to active PC accounts but to existing account holders

Hope all is still on track, it's been a very quiet summer. No news at any games conventions....

It's pretty obvious from listening to Paul Sage on ESO live that it's not coming out in December. I would be shocked if they shipped console before Champion and Justice system come out and are play tested for a while.

    Destiny was a flop.
