Console Discussion Forum (December-ish)?

I know many can care less but for those who do care.

With the recent Forum categories added (big thanks), will there or could there be a Playstation 4 and an Xbox One thread created just before December?

Just hoping for ways to open up conversations about potential migration and news, updates, sticky, guilds, trading. Etc.

*One not limited to active PC accounts but to existing account holders

Hope all is still on track, it's been a very quiet summer. No news at any games conventions....

    One word...Destiny.....

I wouldn't look for eso consoles until December if they will even make that. Come September or early Oct if there's no advertising then maybe 1st quarter 2015?

So a forum really wouldn't help much because it would all be speculation and no facts.

However each console has their own forums for games and you can always check that out

Uhmmmm my personal opinion about Destiny:
1080p version of a Phantasy Star Online game.

I got bored with the BETA so I'll pass and play other games. Diablo 3 and Sunset Overdrive and Halo are more compelling.

    To each it's own.

    Yea, Destiny looks meh...

Thing about the console forums is, you have to be an active member to get a forum account and post, so not many would be in that section yet.

I was asking for a non active section just for consoles. Current account holder but not necessary active sub.

Like they quit the PC version and are waiting for console? Still seems like it would be an empty section. You could just start a console thread in the general section.

Isn't the idea that you have a console relevant to a console thread?

I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for the console versions. It's pretty telling that ZOS won't even give a time frame now for their release. It's even more telling that neither Microsoft nor Sony even mentioned TESO recently at E3 or Gamescon as one of their upcoming games.

Personally, I don't think the console versions are ever going to happen.

Reminds me of all the people on the GTA forums saying it would never get to PC, or next gen consoles. Never underestimate a companies desire to sell a product.

I hope so. Personally, I would love to play it on my PS4, especially if it's done right. I play now on the PC with a controller. But the built-in voice communication possible with the consoles could make communication a lot easier, particularly in grouping (less having to go to the wireless keyboard). And the controller scheme, if done right, could be even better than my heavily customized Xpadder profile--since it would have the advantage of having the game actually recognize the controller as being present, for one thing. And it would also be nice to have on-screen prompts that actually refer to the proper buttons, menus actually designed to be navigated by a controller, etc.

But, again, I'm not holding my breath. E3 and Gamescon this year were real blows to my hopes on this. MS and Sony touted pretty much every game imaginable this year at those conferences for their consoles, even games at least two years away from release. The fact that they didn't make even a *mention* of this triple-A title that's supposedly coming soon to their consoles says to me that something is very amiss.

So the general consensus is that Zenimax has yet to announce any updates therefore the game has been canceled for console?

Perhaps it will become a 2016 title(I hope not) but I do agree that no news is not good news considering the lack of anything over the last few expos.

@Zos_ care to chime in about the Forum question/suggestion ?

A console only forum might make sense. Dunno how big the fanbase for it is, but they'll likely add those categories at some point to the forum structure.

    ...but...

Destiny is the most pre ordered game in history.

Console ESO will be contending with a $500 million dollar competitor that isn't just going to be kicking into high gear late Q3-Q4 with their upcoming console launch, they are going to be turning and burning into the PC market with Steam distribution. Bungie is aiming to storm the market with a truly next generation title that is every bit a large scale social massively multiplayer experience with plenty of small group and solo content as you'd expect from a MMO. They avoid the term MMO like the plague instead using terms like "Shared World Shooter", but it is no doubt a major competitor with the modern MMO market, which includes ESO.

I wouldn't expect to see ESO go to console any where near the launch window of Destiny. Activision will drown out any marketing they do, and will eat up a massive chunk of the market, dragging traditional FPS players and traditional MMO players together into a massive extremely high quality game. Destiny is the next big thing in gaming, it is the elephant in the room, and everyone working on a comparative product gunning for that market that's smart should be nervous as ***.

The only official thing I've seen said since the delay announcement in May is that it is definitely coming. But they said nothing beyond that.

Gamestop has it listed with a Dec 31 release date....Talked to the store here and they said that's a generic date. When that happens there's no date, basically. Given that it's mid August now, I think it's safe to assume that it won't be this year or early next year.

Personally, I think given the disappointing release the PC version had they are pushing it back, getting the game updated with features that didn't make it in for release, and there will be a major relaunch for the consoles in a year or two. And by disappointing, I don't mean the game is bad, I just mean there are a lot of people who quickly jumped ship after the game released in such a buggy, unbalanced and incomplete state. And the game has a bad reputation as a result.

The consoles give them an opportunity to give the game a fresh start after working everything out. Which one think is great. It's looking like it's going to take a while, is all.

They shouldn't have released this game at all until they had key features like the crime system, Imperial city (the bow tie on the present for pvp) and the console version completed and ready to ship.

Those features and a simultaneous console release were KEY to the success of this game. If they could have drummed up excitement in the console crowd by showing a nightblade slitting NPC's throats in a gameplay trailer, they could have sold so many copies and ridden the wave of hype to the ends of the earth. Cinematic trailers, botched PR and releasing a bug-riddled, incomplete game are not good ways to sell copies and get people to shell out $15 a month.

The latest news about console release can be seen in the game updates. They have already started adding properties for controllers. You can see these in the game settings ini, and you can also see a new button called "Jump or Activate" in the controller settings. While official news hasn't come for a couple months, these small updates show that they are working on it.

The consoles have always been a different build.

    http://gamerant.com/elder-scrolls-online-console-ps4-xbox-one-delay-reason/

See, while ZeniMax was hard at work on the PC version of The Elder Scrolls Online, they began to consider the possibility of developing console versions of their MMO. The PC version was always in the cards, from the very beginning, but the prospect of bringing the game to the PS4 and Xbox One arose later into development. That, in turn, put those console versions slightly behind their PC counterpart.

But while the console versions will get to learn from the PC version’s mistakes, Sage was quick to point out that mouse and keyboard players should not consider themselves “beta testers.”

“What we wanted to do when we started the game, it was meant for PC and then with the new consoles coming out we thought they were great and we went, ‘Hey, this is something we hadn’t considered originally that we can do now’, and if anything it’s to do with that rather than anything nefarious. It’s about production and we want to obviously have the best game possible on consoles as well as PC.”

Ultimately, it’s a situation we’ve seen before: a console version (or versions) delayed simply by virtue of timing. A developer starts off with one goal in mind and then, at some point in development, that goal balloons to include more ambitious ideas. That isn’t to say gamers are happy about the delay, but at least they have an answer. Now, if The Elder Scrolls Online slips into 2015, however, then that might be a different issue.

    Did you read the article?
The console development started after the PC. So the console development was behind PC development. Or maybe I should write that console development was started parallel to the PC development. It's always been diff builds as neither of the three work together. Diff servers and diff hardware and oS.

If it's a port, console development starts "after" or at a point when the PC game is playable. This reads that the console project started but wasn't from a finished PC version.

I don't think you know how these games are made. Most of the files in ESO (scripts, meshes, textures, sounds, etc.) will all be the exact same. All they have to do to port them to consoles is make the application which runs the game. Similar to them creating a Mac version, the game is the exact same, but the application is adapted for running on the new OS. Files such as controller configurations just carry over once the system can read them correctly. And a few other tweaks are made for the console because of specific hardware. They do not make the game from scratch. The word "version" simply refers to a copy of the game running on a different OS. The game is the same. The reason they delayed the release on console was because they hadn't finished many important fixes yet, so they were behind schedule.

"The Elder Scrolls Online officially launched on April 4, 2014 on PC and Mac," it read. "While it has become clear that our planned June release of the console versions isn't going to be possible, we have made great progress, we have concluded that we'll need about six more months to ensure we deliver the experience our fans expect and deserve."

I take "versions" to suggest a different build and the other comments solidify that it had to be redone as what they had didn't pass certification for either console.

I don't think you know how these games are made. Most of the files in ESO (scripts, meshes, textures, sounds, etc.) will all be the exact same. You just described "from scratch"

No company is making the "same" title on another platform and omitting all or most files.

That's not from scratch. If they are designing the game to support controllers, those designs will carry over. If something is made 'from scratch', it means they are completely remaking everything.
