Sneak Attack with Bow Tested. Live V.S. PTS 1.5.1

Here is a video I created to test the differences.

Tested Bow on a 0 armor player target in PVP. Compared the differences from the PVE 0 armor targets to show how much of a damage reduction players take from sneak attacks.

PTS -- PVP vs. PVE bow differences
http://youtu.be/AUkan0BK36U

While I enjoying the critter killing, I test on these guys because they have 0 armor. This provides a great base line that you can then estimate against an armored foe.

The Character copy was fairly up-to-date. The Left side (live) has 1 more weapon damage and the right side (PTS) has 43 more stamina. Other than that the gear is identical (5/5 archers mind, 2/5 Red mountain, 3/3 Eagle Eye).

The recent change to Sneak Attacks was made to impact players not critters.

Your video shows the difference in Snipe before and after the 5% damage reduction, but does not take into account the changes made to player on player damage.

    Combat & Gameplay
    General
    • Reduced the amount of bonus damage provided by stealthed attacks against other player characters.
      • Note that stealthed attacks are still always critical strikes that stun your target.

I'll see if I can find a naked EP/AD to test this out in Cyrodiil then update with those numbers. Only takes a few minutes, but its more effort to find someone on the other side for both live and PTS.

Thank god, they get 500 less dmg, stam builds were being competitive.

are you both joking or? do you not remember the time before cap changes when around 1.3-1.5k bow dmg was still lol easy to kill people? 500 dmg is one extra light attack critted or poison arrow critted.

Damn, some of you over react so much.

Only if players decide to not block after the first volley. It is a very different story if the target just holds right click.

If you hadn't trashed your stealth-based NB by now ZOS is wondering why you didn't get the hint. The only thing that made the NB stealth build remotely viable was the one-trick-pony stealth opener. With that gone there is nothing for it but the trash. Get your light gear on and spam funnel health. It's so fun.

It is strange, I'm not even a bow user right now I'm a magic Ambush build and my whole attack rotation revolves around teleporting in, killing and teleporting out and cloaking.

Given the teleport can be flaky at times and cloak is very flaky most of the time I'm finding it a really strange nerf. Apparently holding block and never ending healing with a fear that they can still block though or Sorc shield spam given them more shield than their 3k health is okay though.

I can live with the changes, I'm just finding the logic of it baffling. Bow users are easy pray for me.

What makes all you people think that you deserve the ability to kill other players in half a second without ever being seen? The people you're playing against are real people who are also paying for the game, not a Skyrim NPC. This is not balanced at all, and I find it absolutely ridiculous that anyone can defend the currently massive damage of the bow in PvP, even to heavy armored characters.

*sigh* with that logic ALL skills should be nerfed because ALL skills are unblockable if you don't see them coming.. Seriously dude.. At least snipe IS blockable contrary to a lot of other BS in this game. They should just remove stealth all together.

Bow is my favorite spec to play for solo PVP. Being behind enemy lines killing people on their siege is great fun. So much risk and reward to it. While the sneak attack damage is greatly reduced against players, I'm not convinced its an end to bow ganking.

    Two reasons.

    First, Buff campaigns.
    • All buffs received from Campaigns will be local to the Campaign you're physically located in while in Cyrodiil. When outside of Cyrodiil, your Home Campaign buffs will be applied.

The current state of the game a lot of PVPer's have +600 hp, 6 scrolls, and keep bonuses on them while they are in an even campaign with no emperor. So players will need to stack more HP making their other skills weaker due to this. Players that choose to invest their 62 skill points in to stam or magicka are even easier to kill with a bow anything. So minus 500 HP off of a snipe sneak-attack is still going to be very painful if you don't have emp.

    Second, snipe cast time.
    • Snipe: Reduced the cast time for this ability by approximately 40%
If you haven't been on PTS, then go test this out. Its very quick now. you can actually cast a second snipe at max range before the first one hits. If you went with double snipe opener and got a crit on the second snipe you can have about 2200 damage on the table (before armor is applied). Impen stackers will make this difficult, but they make it difficult even now.

I didn't have time to test snipe/ambush/surprise/death stroke/impale opener or the Snipe/Heavy/venom/light attack. So I'm not sure what kind of opener you can expect with these. Just take what you do now and minus ~500 off it.

I have said this in every stealth nerf thread so far.

The bow gank NB was one of the easiest builds to counter. As soon as you get hit with Lethal Arrow just throw up block and you have now just bought enough time to cast Scales or heals. Once you have done that you are pretty much safe. Block is a skill every class has, it is instant cast, and you can use spells while mitigating damage.

No Dragon Knights should be complaining about bow builds, period.

No one has been getting one shot by Lethal Arrow. Saying people are getting one shot by Lethal Arrow is as misleading as saying Bat Swarm was hitting for 3k. Sure, if you are level 12 you may get 1 shot by a bow user if their lucky but then again, you're level 12. I played the Bow NB for awhile, and the highest crit I ever got was around 2100 with Lethal Arrow. I was also geared for that play style.

If you don't have at least 3k health and are not running impen then don't expect to survive a gank.

NB stamina builds could be relatively ignored until Zenimax buffed bows, and people lost their minds calling for nerfs.

    To add on this.

In order for a 2k hit to happen many things need to be going in favor of the weapon user. These just don't happen for free. A 2k+ hit requires a lot of bad build on the receiving end and a lot of luck on the giving side.

Target has to have to have low armor. This is an absolute must. Casters that stack spell power rings are going to be prime candidates. Non-armor ring wearing people with gear about to break is another one. A target with low armor that is marked is the best, someone with a base of 30% armor reduction (two armor rings in a dress) isn't going to take a 2k hit even when marked.

On top of low armor their are many other factors (Flawless Dawnbreaker, Slayer Passive, Long shots Passive, Hawk eye Passive) How far away are they, are they daedric, are they off balance, are they marked and not blocking, and did someone just solar flare them?

You also need to have the proper gear, racials and stats. Archers mind, shadow mudus, stealthy passive and over 2.2k stamina.

With all of these thing working in your favor, then you can start getting into the 2k sneak attack. If you want to prevent this from happening, put on two +630 armor rings and purge mark target. If you get sneak attacked by a bow, break CC and block.

It's obvious there's no convincing the people who are still crying and whining about the whole "omg dk op nerf or i unsub :'( " thing but refuse to adapt to the game mechanics and follow the meta.

The fact that you feel so entitled to be able to down another paying player in less than a second is scary. ZOS might as well just add a feature where a player will randomly explode for all his health every now and then, because it's exactly the same. No counter-play, and only fun for the entitled ganker who thinks his money is worth more than what the rest of us pay.

And also, have you ever considered the fact that you might not be the good players you think you are? I die to plenty of skilled Nightblades.
