Here i bring to all of you a very good idea (if not already posted), the capes are very much important in a mmorpg game, especially if we are talking about the elder scrolls online, i personally think is a good idea, the cape or the cloak also will bring its own statistics, here i leave a picture edited by me as a sample and example. :)

Look here, This is a Deaduhorsus Beatus! Lets watch as he beats the corpse of this dead horse. Now these peculiar animals are not content enough to just kill a horse but they must continually beat it for months sometimes even years on end. They like to sink their teeth into the horses throat "Blam!" with such force that it kills the horse instantly. They then will continue to flail about smashing the horse over and over. Even though from the looks of it the horse has in fact been dead for a good six months this creature just continues to beat its lifeless body. Crikey these are some vicious creatures. Uh-Oh I think it spotted us, we are just going to back away slowly and let it get back to beating the dead horse.

    That was exciting "WOOOOO!"

They have already said no to cloaks/capes because rendering them in PvP would cause serious performance issues. I don't see why they can't implement some kind of cape culling when X number of people are in an area or something but that's their story and they're sticking to it.

Feel free to continue with your horse beating.

Honestly... the patronizing "dead horse" remarks are more annoying than any "yet-another" post.

If you don't have something constructive to add, it's best not to add anything at all.

That being said... has anyone ever addressed the use of cloaks in Tamriel? It's not something I've seen in past games... not in any great use that is.

It's not dead until players stop talking about it. If people are still talking about it, there is still demand. I know they said capes would not work with the amount of detail needed to go into them (performance hits, yadadada), but I would like to see capes put into the game (I'm sure my gaming rig would still run fine).

They already said they're not going to be implementing capes and cloaks until they can figure how to render them without them A) looking like ass and 2) becoming a latency problem due to independent movement.

The trailer also features a battle more epic than any fight you can have in ESO. If the game was like the trailer... on second thought, better not start dreaming. I'll get disappointed.

Yes, they are. The cloaks/capes are a fairly obvious invention for any people that is able to work with textiles and need some sort of protection from the cold/rain/sandstorms/whatever.

Both Arena and Daggerfall featured capes and cloaks on some characters:

    533964-the-elder-scrolls-arena-dos-screenshot-chatting-with-the-queen.png

    Elder-Scrolls-II-Daggerfall.png

    gfs_50109_2_2.jpg

Cloaks and Capes "disappeared" from most games on the "early days of fully 3D rendering" because it was too difficult to make a good looking cape. Just look at how many games from these "early" days gave up on cloaks; Morrowind, Neverwinter Nights; Dungeon Siege...

The ones who tried made absolutely ugly capes, like modded NWN capes, WoW capes, etc...

Due to 'habit' and more technological complications, the following Elder Scrolls games had no capes as well, but they were always featured on artworks and such from the series...

So, please... I understand the graphical and stability issues that proper capes would bring. But don't come with the lore argument because saying that one of the most common pieces of clothing throughout History and different places of the world wouldn't be lore-friendly on a setting that draws a lot from our own world is simply absurd.

Other than that, keep beating the horse, mates. I do want to see well made, realistic, linen/fur cloaks in the game one day :disagree:

This is a fair point... but using our own world's developments as a rationalization doesn't really make sense to me. Just look how long the people of Tamriel have been in their pre-industrial medieval era. The fact that the sprite based TES games had cloaks is enough to justify cloaks in ESO, if it's ever something they can work out how to do.

Either way, you're right. The "not lore-friendly" excuse is completely bunk.

Why are they important (except to Role players?).

ZOS has acknowledged your wish for capes but hasn't implemented it yet since it takes skill (and they've proven they don't have much of that) to make capes look nice.

And it would make PVP even laggier according to them because of the resources needed to render the capes. :disagree:

Well, there WERE capes present in the Official Gameplay Trailer, shown in the below screenshots:

They're also at 2:26 and 9:00 in the actual YouTube video if you are interested:

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YlEipFtHw7o

So it's not like ZoS disregarded it, they perhaps implemented it at first but got feedback that players didn't like it, or the capes were too faulty or may even be planned to come out in future content. I would say not to ignore the capes for the time being and wait for/if a ZoS employee talks about it in the future.

It's gotta be a performance thing.. I remember WoW having capes and cloaks, but its graphic quality and style lets it get away with them. ESO has a more realistic look. It must be a lot more difficult to render a bunch of real looking capes versus a bunch of stiff cartoony ones.

Having said that, I think capes are wicked and would love to see them in the game :)

    (edit)
Maybe we could get a rare costume or two that have capes. That way they're attainable but not too common.

If truly the company wants to create a really good game then must be implement the capes or cloaks, the capes or cloaks was part of the medieval age and everybody knows that, many mmorpg games like this have good graphics and have capes or cloaks, so what is the excuses?, if do not strive to create a very good game then never will, i know very well this company has the potential, only be to know to use it. :)
