Chat bubbles! Suggestion

I often /lute and write out songs in/emote - many of the songs I write can be viewed on my guild's blog - thebardscollege.tumblr.com

It would be great if you can select the type of chat that is viewed in bubbles
i.e select /group, /say, /zone, /emote

For example I would only see /emote bubbles pop up

This would eliminate screen chat bubble spam,
But allow it to be selective

PLEASE Zenimax

Also last week with your server update, I can no longer use /lute and type capital letters using "shift+a" = A for example without it cancelling the animation of lute playing

Test it for yourself /lute then simply press the shift key, for some reason it cancels the lute playing - this stops me from using correct grammar while roleplaying and writing songs in /emote
- for a temp fix i've just unbound my sprint key :( sad face so that I can continue to use proper grammar while writing songs "High King Emeric, was an elven-half king" would have to be "high king emeric, was an elven-half king" if I wanted to continue the /lute animation without it cancelling when using shift to capitalize letters

PLEASE Zenimax fix that too!

Cheers
Your favourite Imperial Bard

download the simple chat bubbles addon

it already does everything you want, you can choose what chat channels appear in the bubbles, emote, say, yell, zone, etc etc

I was playing Update 5 on the PTS earlier today, and you can do exactly that with the new chat bubble system. You just need to wait for Update 5 to go live on the main server.

But I mean, for people to only see /emote bubbles and NOT see /say or /group bubbles

Is that implemented? You can choose which you see?

Options menu under Interface looks like:

    CHAT BUBBLES (BETA)
    Chat Bubbles On/Off
    Fade Rate Slider
    Only Known Players On/Off
    Self On/Off
    /say On/Off
    /yell On/Off
    /tell On/Off
    /group On/Off
    /emote On/Off

This all controls what you see. Other players can configure what they want to see.

It's a good start. Needs work. It needs work if it's going to work at all.

    Good set of options:

    Tool Tips to explain them:
    KnownPlayerToolTip_zps40b07cb3.png

But it's lacking two more features it will need to function in the game:

    1. The beginning of long statements scroll off the top of the screen. And, "so don't talk so much" is neither an answer nor an option if you've even seen fine roleplayers in action.

    2. There is no font size option in the Chat Bubbles options field. This contributes to number 1 above.

    3. The screen will become unusable during any RP event, due to numbers 1 and 2 above.

Chat size in Social options does not change the size of the font here. Nor should it. It would be unreadably small.

Also the chat bubble can appear too high above the player. It looks clear who's talking in this screen shot but only because there is only one person there. Imagine if there were several standing near each other. The problem is that, unlike regular text chat, there is no label.

Two things that would be good to have and improve adoption:

    1. More fonts.

    3. Option to label who is talking. Right now the little V pointer is supposed to do this but that won't work in a crowd.

    3. Texture options. This would also require options for level of transparency.

To better illustrate my point, here's a video of a recent RP event that I posted earlier.

These are your most social players and they create their own content. This feature helps them and other more social players who don't like or don't use voice servers.

With just a little work it will be a splendid addition to the game.

Just want to pipe in, chat bubbles that aren't actually associated with the location of the person speaking are absolutely pointless. That video is just absolutely silly. Just use chat windows filtered to the channels you care about.

And P.S. Be really interesting to see just how legible all those large bubbles are once they *are* attached the person speaking/emoting, and start either overlapping or bouncing around/off each other.

You should make your own thread and put all this in it. Your post is very well layed out and includes many improvements. It may go unseen hiding in this thread. No offence to OP, but his thread doesn't contain the amount of detail your post does.
If you like small group PvP (2-4 players) and solo PvP check out my video ;)https://youtube.com/watch?v=jechGImtFio

SPOILER: The first 40 seconds of the video contains a scene from the final Molag Bal boss fight!

    Good point Emperor!

I posted it in Public Test Server Feedback as well. Also figured that's where the folks working on this feature will be looking for version 5 feedback.

    Thanks buddy :)

Another reason to post it in another topic. ;)
