Alliance War
General
  • Flaming Oil will now only affect targets that are at least 6 meters below you; oil will no longer do any damage if used on the ground.

So no more holing up in a tower at resources and farming enemies... but they now also can't be used to stop impulse-zergs so... double edged sword change?

Thoughts on this?

Already in the works. The radius of effect is getting cut almost in half.

Yeah, big thumbs up. Would love to see a day when all seige stuff gets used as it was intended. Oil pots on flags is/was ridiculous.

I am curious though how/if they will work at the top of staircases anymore. I think stairs are a valid use.

    Radius is reduced by 25%...

They need to make it blockable like other AoE abilities are and they need to add an activation time to it where you can only move very slowly.

While the radius is reduced by 25%, the area is reduced by half. Just do some simple math or google it. Its a pretty nice nerf.

Be cool now if they could make rams more popular, there's something awesome about watching your enemy roll a ram up to your door and pouring flaming oil on them...

I like the nurf. It should have kill the users as well if they poured it on the ground at their feet.
FYI - There is no such thing as 'night capping' in a world wide MMO.
FYI - There was no paid Beta. When they launched the game the Beta was over, even if you don't think it was.
    FYI - It's B2P not F2P. There is a difference.
FYI - It doesn't take any player skill to mash keys or buttons in this game. The ones that stay alive longer have the better internet connection and speed.
FYI - The game is not broken, it still works. It just has 'bugs' that need to be fixed.
    Balance is a "Bad" thing.

Example: There were hundreds of Jedi and only two Sith in Star Wars. The Jedi wanted, "Balance in the Force" and they got it. Now there are only two Jedi and two Sith.

    Balance is a "Bad" thing.

Awesome change and obviously the way a pot of boiling oil should work. Placing them on the ground was possibly the dumbest thing in ESO.

Actually no. Setting the damn keep on fire is not the smartest tactical choice or in any way realistic.

I think this is a mistake. Should have made it friendly fire. Then the pot users would have to think about where they put it. Also, the friendlies would have to think about where the pot user is pouring it down. This would make the war interesting. Instead I feel like the easy button is being used to fix it.

They should have made it kill the user instanty unless it drops. That would be interesting.

I like this idea too. Goes well with my idea of making the user think it through. In this case self survival is at stake. :)

Zenimax, please, PLEASE do not do this. This is one of the worst imaginable changes that you can make to the game. The reason that people use oil is because it's one of the only things that does not have an AOE cap. If it were possible to kill a raid of 24 people all bunched up with a three yard radius of each other in ANY other way at all, that's what we'd do, but the fact that they exploit the AOE cap to make themselves functionally IMMUNE TO DAMMAGE means that oil is our only choice. (In that scenario, 75% of the group takes ZERO damage from an AOE attack. Healers can heal through that without any difficulty at all because heals automatically target those with the lowest health.) Zerg balls won't even have to attack, just bunch up on the flag and revel in their immmunity.

I cannot emphasize enough how terrible a decision this is. I have never made a forum post before today; I created my account specifically because of this issue. Taking away oil pots without fixing AOE caps, and fixing the AOE caps NOW, will break Cyrodiil.

Holy crap. Do people really like this kind of combat that we are in right now forcing you to set up oceans of oil pots all over? So boring! Come on do you people (those opposed to this) really like to play pvp this way? Finally there will be no more reason for some dweeb to yell that we suck because we are not setting up on the oil pot ocean. Good riddance. Good bye...good night!

I think it's quite telling how the majority of posters in the Alliance War oil thread are opposed to the nerf, while the majority here in General Discussion think it's the best thing since sliced bread.

Oh the reason for that is because, maybe, they are PvP's exploiting this like it's going out of fashion (hah).

Problem is that pvp without them might be worse then pvp with them because there is no counter to a close ball of impulse spammers now.

Trust me I hate oil pots too being a vampire but the alternative is worse without a way to deal with these groups.

Most certainly not friendly fire. The kind of people who like placing troll camps would get the opportunity to wipe whole zergs of same-faction players during keep defense. It would be a griefer's paradise.
