Today when i was nearing level 36 and was near crafting station for certain set i was thinking

"Heck, i craft this stuff to my inventory to be ready to use when i hit level 36"

To my unyielding confusion, i should be able to craft spidersilk stuff.. I have needed crafting level, i have materials and all that. What the heck?

Only thing i could think of was my own level but... It feels like absolute stupidity in game desing if i can not craft stuff that i can not yet use.. Is this really true or is there some "hidden" requirements that i need the fit too?

To craft sets you need to have researched a certain number of traits for each piece in the set. If you haven't done the research then no-go on crafting the set.

I also had the traits but nevermind this, it started working on its own O_O

Have you put enough skill points into the appropriate passive skill as well, so that you're allowed to work the materials?

    Like, e.g.
    Metalworking for Blacksmithing,
    Tailoring for Clothing, or
    Woodworking for, well, Woodworking?

You're only allowed to progress in these passive skills if your crafting skill level is high enough (mouseover it to see when the next skill point becomes available to invest).

Sounds like a potential bug or possibly some sort of latency between you and the game server. Just in case, I'd be sure to report it as a bug so the dev team can look into it.

I've had a similar experience. It seemed, as mentioned above, there was some kind of delay or latency.

Did any of you even bother to read the OP? He's stating he's not yet level 36 and wondering why he can't craft spidersilk light armour.

Ignore all the answers that came before this one. They're all wrong. Here is the simple answer:

You can only craft armor that matches, or is lower than, your current character level (not your crafting level).

For example, if you are level 34. You can only craft level 34 and lower armour/clothing/etc. You can't craft level 36 spidersilk, even if you have the crafting level and have spent the skill point to craft it. It will show up in red on your creation menu if you try.

Are you sure about that? I remember plenty of times crafting something a few levels higher so when I was out questing I could use it after leveling up.

No you're wrong. You can craft armour over your character's overall level if you activated the skills required. You cannot wear armour over your character's level.

You can craft any level if you have the crafting level and the skillpoints. It shows up red because that character can't equip the item, not because they can't craft it.

Please do not spread such *** if you do not have a single clue what you are talking about!
Of course you can craft stuff above your character level when you have the necessary crafting skills to do so! I have a level 10 twink with blacksmithing 50 and he can of course craft VR14 stuff.

I suspect he saw red and never thought to try actually clicking it to see what happened. Red = bad, red STOP!

Absolutely you can craft above your character skill level, all you need is the Material Skill Passive for whatever you want to make.

I had a weird issue where all of my clothing skills and passives are maxed out, and I'm at a level 50 for clothing, but when I was breaking down a piece of light armor, a warning appeared that said I didn't have enough skill to extract that item.

So the only thing that I can think of is that my character at VR5 wasn't allow to break down VR8 clothing? But I don't remember ever having that problem before.

Did you get any materials from the decon? Not the Trait or Racials but the materials? I think if you go more than a few levels over your character, you don't get any materials. I know I have broken down VR1/2 stuff with my L46 Crafter and gotten the materials, so not sure how many levels you have to be below what your deconstructing.

The message your seeing is from the last patch, the condition was always there.

Not true. I have a level 10 Imperial and have been crafting armor for up to level 14,saving it till I get there,or for alt.Using Nickel ore. I can also create weapons for up to that level too.Level 14. After that level, you need the right ore.

Sounds like a bug, report it, happened to myself and my wife a few times. Logging out then back in fixes it. Most times.
