Thank you Zenimax for not allowing ESO to be infected and dumbed down by the corruption of pop culture including

Hollidays such as Easter, Thanksgiving, Halloween and Christmas.
Industrial technology such as guns, motorcycles, helicopters and flying ships of any kind.

Please keep ESO pop-culture free!

Edit: as a roleplayer who leads an rp guild, I really appreciate the lack of pop culture and the purity of the lore in ESO, as does everyone in my guild. We don't need ESO to celebrate earth holidays.

My concern is about blatant pop culture references, especially lame approximations of real world holidays and holiday seasons. If its from Elder Scrolls lore, I am fine with it.

I have a different idea of what pop culture is. To me, pop culture are passing fads, references to movies and easter eggs. Holidays and advanced technology are more a world and culture building thing. They have actual influence on character's thoughts and motivations, while pop culture is more cheap jokes for the audience.

Anyway, I disagree about not having Holidays. What about Witch's Festival and Saturalia, which are basically Halloween and Christmas? They're well established in the lore.

As for the tech stuff, I'm neutral. I could see some of this showing up in the form of dwarven stuff, and it wouldn't hurt my immersion much. Dwarven crossbows basically are guns already. Though I do twinge at the thought of airships and helicopters for some reason. Even though you could explain it by saying there's some levitation magic combined with dwarven tech, airships does feel like a step too far from the medieval theme.

While i wouldnt like to have pop singers in the game , i would for sure enjoy to have the holyday events in the game.

If it makes people feel better they can just rename them and ofc give them lore reasons , there problem solved.

Holidays are not a Pop Culture thing. TV Shows, Music, Books, Memes, lolcats and the like are.

However I do agree that any holidays or holiday celebrations should be based in the lore of the game world, no matter what game it is. In some cases, the game world is our world and the holidays would be what we have. In the case of TES games, then we need to have holidays that are based in the TES Lore, or it would not make any sense in the game.

I think Lore-centric holidays could be fun - as long as they also aesthetically fit with the design and setting of the game. For example, christmas lights wouldn't be fitting - there is no electricity in ESO. Halloween costumes (if there is such a thing in the lore - I'm no lore expert) should be costumes based on characters/creatures in the elder scrolls world...I don't want to see Frankensteins or witches with broomsticks and point hats, but I'd be ok with goblins and skeletons.

So yeah, that could be fun - although I'd prefer if they focus on fixing outstanding bugs and such first.

What about that Daggerfall Covenant guard who keeps on saying: "I like to crush skulls and eat sweetrolls... and I'm all out of sweetrolls."? If that isn't a reference to the Duke and his bubblegum-chewing, arse-prodding attitude I don't know.

It's not so much that the holidays are in and of themselves pop culture, but the way we celebrate certainly is. Also, not everyone is Christian, so having such an in game holiday can be a real nuisance to those of other faiths. Much better to have lore based holidays.

Actually that quote came from the 1988 movie "They Live" which was then used in Duke Nukem because he was the essential 80's gun wielding tough guy type. Also Bart Vs. The Space Mutants also referenced it with using sunglasses to see people as aliens.

I am torn... I agree about the holidays, unless they are ESO Lore based... I can also agree with the mechanical items, unless they are Dwemer based... But some of the NPC Comments are all right, even if based in "Popular Culture" but modified with ESO lore, like the bashing skulls and eating sweet rolls listed above... face it, the most annoying NPC statements are not based in pop-culture, they are just snide comments...

We need more pop culture references in this game. Like a chorus line of lusty argonian maids twerking, or a den in Eastmarch buried in the snow that records everyone's actions in a memory crystal. I'd really like to see a roomful of people all sitting around a projection crystal and manipulating the projected image with a smaller crystal while their significant others nag them that there's a life outside the crystal.

Did they not say they were going to be doing something for the month of October? I remember reading that somewhere but not sure.

If the "big eyes small mouth" art style hits this game, I'm outtie.
Ditto with huge oversized anime weapons.
Ditto with an overabundance of mounts.

For me, it's pretty much adding anything anime that would kill this game.

RP player here. I do and don't agree with you. Skyrim had a great mod that added a large variety of lore friendly holidays and I always thought that was a rather nice touch. There was that one holiday celebrated by witches and that other one which was essentially celebrating the harvest ect. I think that stuff is incredibly relevant to roleplaying and not at all related to pop culture so much as it is related to just....culture. I don't think there has ever been a culture in human history without holidays.

I agree with everything else than holiday events. ESO needs more stuff to do than just current existing ones and holiday events have been great way to have fun in other games so i am hoping such events will someday be reality.. That said it would be best if such events would somehow fit the lore but if not, i am willing to look past that issue in this case only.
