The Story is the reason to play the game. Otherwise it's just another game like any other where you do the same things for much the same reasons.

Give me a reason to care about the NPCs and I will gladly help them. Otherwise it's just another fetch quest so I can get the next shiny thing.

And why do people put "I could care less" . . . ? That implies you could care. If you don't care, then you couldn't care less.

Hahaha.. glad you pointed that out. I hate that too. It should be "I couldn't care less" meaning you're caring the least possible amount already. People always get that mixed up.

I went with "It's important but not a deal breaker". The story is always important, and even more so in an ES game. But I don't think the story is THE reason to play the game. Gameplay is equally important and in this case I find there's an excellent balance of quality gameplay and story telling, both of which support one another.

Why would I play the game otherwise?

For me it's the reason why I'm playing the game.

The story, not so much.

The lore though, I'm a huge fan. The lore sets the context, and the atmosphere. Anything that adds to this, racials, armor, guilds, mundus stones, ect. is positive from my perspective.I would love to see the Aedra and Daedra play a larger roll in the lives/development of our characters.

Story quest? Not so much.

Color me red: if it doesn't stick to the TES story line/lore, it may as well be called 'Some Other Game Online.'

I'm the middle choice that doesn't exist: It's nice to have but I don't really care. Too much story makes a game on rails. I prefer the Everquest story model: every region and every city has it's own story and you don't even have to bother with them.

First , people did talk about it , if you check there are old threads about many of the story parts and calls you have to make , sure people dont talk about it much now , but then again you dont discuss a movie you saw 3 months ago often do you?

Second , in the end , balance issues/bugs are ever changing , the story isnt. Talking about it wont change it at all and it is unlikely anything we say here can in anyway change the story zen is creating.

In the end , makes sense that people talk much less about it , the story is "old" , it isnt changing at all , now the bugs/issues are "new" usually created by some mistake zen made on the last patch.

It would hardly be game for me if there wasn't a story. Otherwise I would view it as near pointless 'tasks' that I have no real reason to care for.

Probably because the story is the one thing they got mostly completely right in the game. There is not too much to complain about with regards to the story.

when i first began to play elderscrolls online in the beta and even in early release and launch i was deeply interested and deeply involved and very hungry and starving for more elderscrolls story and lore.
but, after i saw what they did with all the real life swearing and complete removal of anything and basicly everything that was in morrowind, and also the removal of the dark elf lifestyle and culture, and also the knowledge of the disrespect and hatred for the nightblade class and the praise and worship of everything having to do with skyrim and the sorcerer and dragonights. thats when i lost it and has been a down hill roll for me.
i sure hope they turn the page and completely rebuild the entire game.
and by the way, this is my honest feelings and not a troll post, not a joke and not something for entertainment, this is my true honest feelings.

I'm a huge fan of the Elder Scrolls series in general, they are my favorite games of all times.
I played them thousands of hours, f.e. Skyrim I played over 1400 hours (that's what I definitely know, well, Steam^^), Morrowind maybe even longer (at least over the years) plus I was also modding for a long time. And Oblivion I played for quite a while, but not as much, though. ESO I'm playing since pre-launch and can't stop it anymore

But what I never cared much for was the main stories. Although they all have something that is really awesome, they also have something that annoys or bothers me, I can't help it.
Example: the Urshilaku Camp quests and such annoy me, as well as the Greybeards sitting on their highest Hrothgar doing nothing but meditating, while the realm of Coldharbour and its background bothers me. But that's just my personal opinion.

Of course I've done and completed them all, even several times, but I prefer all the other quests (guilds, sidequests) and their stories, though.

Remember f.e. the endquest of the Thieves Guild in Oblivion? That was a masterpiece!

This is just false. Not only did the main story fit within the lore, but it draws from multiple large aspects of the lore as a whole. You're free to not like it, but attacking the plausibility of the story vs established lore is a stretch at best.
