Losing potential experience due to VR 1?

I am not sure if anyone has posted a topic on losing out on potential experience they would have gotten from killing mobs and quests because they acheived the Veteran rank status or not but since this has happened to me twice I thought I would bring it up. So far I have two Veteran ranked characters and both of them have reached Veteran rank 1 within the first few quests of Coldhabour. I don't do anything besides quests, nongroup dungeons, world bosses, and dolmens and yet I still end up leveling past the quests. I just think that I am losing out on a good bit of experience from doing all lthe content in Coldharbour that is not veteran ranked mobs or quests just because I am veteran rank 1. With all the talk about the Champion system and how it uses your experience acheived after reaching 50 ie. VR1, am I losing out on that accumulated experience since everything I kill now grants me no experience. I got used to the leveling scheme before VR that cut you off from gaining experience from mobs more than five level below you but when you turn VR 1 you that scheme is over and replaced with one that is far more limited and thus making me question if I should just skip Coldharbour and go straight to kill Molag Bal. Just my thoughts on the situation and wondering if should complete Coldharbour or not.

It's weird, right? Happened to me with three chars now.

You go from one game where you gain experience doing any number of things to another game where only quests and skill points matter. The consolation is that your skills still do level as XP used to.

The Coldharbor story line is still amazing so it's worth a full play through at least once.

Still have to fluff about in Coldharbour (long enough, personally I hated the place) to get to get to the Molag chain anyway.

The main story, after all the preceding bollocks, is entertaining even if the Molag fight itself is a bit meh.

I was well into V1 before going there, and only did because as far as I know it's the only way of opening up Cadwells silver > gold quest lines which if you don't pursue leaves you Craglorn/PVP to grind through to V14.

How vets levels will translate to Champion points I have no idea .

On a related note: Unfortunately, I turned VR1 while in Coldharbor. So I had my crafting sorc make a set of VR1 armor. Only after did I learn that you cannot buy VR1 enchantments in Coldharbor, only up to level 50. I thought level 50 = VR1, but I guess not. Or maybe I am just not finding the right glyph merchant.

I usually hit v1 after a couple of quests in Coldharbor and end up doing most of it as a v1. Anyways, to address your concerns....

Firstly, the leveling curve is way too lenient but this has been the norm in all games for the last 12 years. Either that or I'm a super genius of a gaming god. ;)

You are still getting experience towards Fighters Guild rank unless you already maxed that out. I did not max that out until one day I went zombie road farming for fishing worms. Use an addon and you will see this experience gain.

You are still leveling Mages Guild and possibly Undaunted(?).

If you add a new skill to your hotbar, that skill will level as you complete quests and fight(?). (someone double check this for me) I know after completing the main story this is one of the places people give advice to go level a new skill if and when you make the switch to pvp and find your pve skills don't quite cut it.

It's just this one zone, so keep it in perspective. After you are done you have 10 more zones + cyrodiil (which is a huuuuge map) + craglorn.

It's all your choice but my advice is don't level fast. This game is fun going through the pve content, kinda fun in pvp, but still it shines best in pve. Wait for other people to troubleshoot the high level content and give them time to release meaningful vet content. I really don't care much for what we have now, so my highest level character is v4 as of this writing and I'm in no rush to be anywhere near v14.

Did they change something? because on my templar I managed to make just under a quarter of a vet level in coldharbor.

IIRC, after turning VR1 in Coldharbour, you start getting Veteran XP from quest turn ins, but 0 Veteran XP from mobs, world bosses and dungeon clears. Could be wrong though...

If you don't finish the main story you don't get vet levels, but skills which are essentially L1 - 50 only will still level.

Vet levels in this game are kinda a wierd hybrid of some sort. It's not true leveling since it's mostly about being able to use higher ranked (vet level) gear. However, you actually don't level anymore, no more skill points from your vet levels. SP comes from the quests that give you SP, the skyshards and I believe that is it.

Unlocking skills is still very important, at least for pvp, using something like wykkyd's Outfitter addon you can swap skills out quickly in Cyrodiil depending on what situations you face; i.e. zergfesting, small gang action, keep taking, straggler hunting (which may require the most skill changing to counter a repeat opponent), cyrodiil questing (aka pve).

Make sure to bring a horse to cyrodiil that map is huuuuuuuuuuuuuuuge! Many skyshards to farm.

You still get XP after reaching VR1 in addition to Veteran Points.VP. The VP is for ranking up your character Vet Rank, the XP is for leveling up skills. In other words , You do not lose any potential XP points when reaching VR1.

I am not sure about the ratio but VP and XP do not come equally from every source. For example boss grinds in Craglorn will rank up VP very fast but are barely useful for ranking skills and skill lines. Questing and grinding lots of trash mobs are a great way to get XP but not VP.

Soon the VP will be removed and XP will be used for both. Not sure about how VP and XP will be converted though.

Get someone in your guild or a friend to buy some glyphs for you. ;)

The VR1 and level 50 gear are exactly the same though. At launch you didn't get to be VR1 until you finished the last boss.Level 50 was an actual thing. I was lvlv50 for 3/4 of Coldharbour.
