Okay - What's Up with THIS?

I attempt to harvest a resource node of some sort - so far it's happened (over the course of several weeks) with rune, ore, and cloth nodes (in three different zones) - and the 'E' on my screen (to use the node - I'm playing on my PC) greys out, but then nothing happens.

No harvesting animation, no audible of any kind (such as when attempting to harvest a node already in use) - nothing.

From this point:

1) It becomes impossible to use anything in the game (as the E remains greyed out).

2) I lose the the use of my keyboard's ESC key (and have to tab out of the game to shut it down - or type /quit - as that seems like the only way to deal with this nonsense)

3) That particular node becomes utterly useless, because if I attempt to use it again later (even days later), the exact same thing will happen again.

Does anyone have any knowledge or experience with nodes like this?

If so, please enlighten me.

TIA

Haven't had that problem since I stopped using Add ons.

I just started using an add on that shows the location of skyshards on my map, and another one that shows the location of lore books on my map.

Those are the only add ons I use -and I know for an absolute certainty that the occurrence of the problem I described PREDATES the installation of either of those two.

    (Thanks anyway.)

I feel like I have had related problems; I always thought they were bugs. I have lost a few pieces of Siege equipment before because I could put it out but not interact with it.
    Baskin Robbins always finds out.

I have seen this this thing you describe happen to me.

But only in times of heavy connection lag, like when I'm uploading a youtube video and trying to play at the same time ( B) yeah, I know... ;) )

Also, it happened to me when I was having internet troubles, like disconnections and lost packets.

The non-working ESC key is purely addon generated... it was demonstrated that it's related to addons using an API function that was changed some patches ago... (check the Addons dedicated section of this forums for more info, I think there was a thread there with the investigation that lead to that discovery.)

My guess is that you're using an outdated addon? Maybe?

As for the 3rd point, that never happened to me.

I'd check for firewalls/AV blocking outgoing connections from the game.

Hope you can solve your problem!

    Best luck,
    Leandro

    Thanks, leeux.

I should have mentioned that I immediately suspected a connection or network problem, so I've made it a point to check my connection each time, before shutting down the game. So far, I haven't seen anything unusual or out of the ordinary there.

Also, if it was a connection or network problem, that wouldn't explain (to me, anyhow) why any future attempted use of the same node triggers the problem all over again.

As far as the add ons go (and the ESC key) - 1) they don't require its use (or any keyboard use, for that matter, other than 'M' to open the map), and 2) the only time I have the ESC key problem is after I encounter one of those bum nodes.

/reloadui works when this happens to me. A pain to be sure, but it works.

This has been happening a lot for me lately with speaking to NPCs. I'll have to move away and re-attempt several times to get it to work (most often if I try to talk to someone while I'm mounted).

This is an old bug that once or twice became more common briefly. Add to this list wayshrines and doors. The node bug doesn't happen very often but I'll see it occasionally. Have gotten so used to things like this I hit my F key that macros a /reloadui or I relog and carry on.

I've had that since I started playing. Get too close to a node or npc, hit e, have to move away to use actually use it.

The never being able to use it again, I've never had, just usually move around and try again, or block, or hit esc twice fixes it.

Other programs can "take control" of the esc key, the one I had an issue with was Photoshop.

    Thank you, Gillysan.

(and thanks to all of you for taking the time to post)

I'll keep /reloadui in mind and give it a try the next time this happens.

The problem while being mounted hasn't happened to me - but then I don't use horses (although I have one) - I just can't get used to steering the darn things from behind.

As for other programs, I personally run my system as lean as I possibly can when I'm playing (with ESO's process priority always set to 'High' - my game performance is otherwise great).

I play ESO via Steam (which I'm not particularly fond of, but oh well), but otherwise I don't run anything on my system that isn't strictly necessary.
