Lag, low fps and client crashes - Cyrodiil woes - Needs dev attention.

I really wish I could enjoy the large siege actions going on but the lag, huge drops in fps and constant client crashes (happens especially when I'm in the vicinity of a large siege) is really killing the fun for me. when the campaign is in full action, and people are sieging left and right on all 3 sides, the server is unable to cope with the activity and the game will periodically stop (then resume with insane rubber banding). At it's best, you'll "only" have to deal with 3 second lag.

I've got a decent rig. OC'd i5 3570k, Nvidia GTX 780 ,24gb 1600Mhz CL11 memory, 3x SSD's in raid 0 and an mobo with x77 intel chipset.

What rig do you guys have and how do you fare in large scale PvP ?

I have an i7 third gen, r9 280x GPU, 8gb ram, 1tb HD and since i moved from my hometown last month a very crap internet connection, 60 fps locked in the game and 22-30 fps on the very large scale battles and sieges around cyrodiil wich is totally fine by me, can play normal, i have had a single crash on pvp since the beta, havent experienced more than one or two quest bugs at release (already fixed), my game run flawlessly, the only times i disconnect is because of my crap new internet provider losing connection but i can live with that, anyway, i feel for the people who have problems with Eso, hope all could have such a blast with this game as i have, love all tes games and eso is my new favorite :)

    i5 4670K @ 4.2GHz
    GTX 770
    16GB RAM
    128GB SSD
2TB HDD 7200 RPM (this is where ESO is installed)

55-74fps in all areas during PvE (my monitor is OC'd to 74Hz)
30-74fps in PvP depending on how much action there is
Rarely drop below 30fps and if I do it is normal/expected due to the number of players/effects on screen.

Network latency is noticeable in PvP at times but only during huge battles. 1-3 seconds at the most.

I don't experience any client crashes in ESO at all... maybe one or two, ever.. and those weren't necessarily to do with PvP.

My internet connection is 50Mbps down / 3Mbps up (PC is hardwired to router)

The way the game performs seems excellent to me, given what's going on in game. The latency in PvP is sometimes annoying so there is room for improvement there.

Questing, even in Cryodiil I turn the eye candy up. If you know you are going to be in a big siege turn the eye candy down before you run over there, especially shadows. Draw distance is too important, I try to keep that maxed.

If you end up in some heavy action, run into a keep, log out, make the changes then log back in. If you try to do the changes while still logged in your screen may lock or you get stuck in the unending load screen.

This will help but lag will still be a problem and possibly crashing but greatly reduced.

Hmmm. how often would you say?

Is it only during times with a lot of action on screen?

Do you run the game in full screen or windowed mode?

i've switched to fullscreen not long ago, and yes it happens very often when there are a lot of people fighting but it can also crash by just playing in cyr.

Your rig sounds good enough, so no obvious faults there.

Is your client crashing completely back to your desktop, or are you just being disconnected back to the login screen?

Maybe he is playing Skyrim and thinking he is playing ESO. Cuz what ever game he is playing it cant be ESO. My pc is i7 4770k, 16gm ram, 780Ti, SSD drives, 30mb down & 5mb up, and for large scale battles I'm stuck at 15-20 fps with client crashes happening randomly throughout my game day. Repaired the client multiple times, did a clean reinstall, disabled all addons, even tried playing on two other pc's who also have all the same problems. So yeah this game is fubar'd.

I dont believe it either. I'm in a large cross-guild TS when PvP'ing, hundreds of players from my faction visits daily. Guess what, everyone is crashing. Sometimes 2-3 raids (sitting in different TS channels) crashes at the same time. Best case only half a group goes offline.

Than there's all the roll-backs. How does one who "never crash" explain that lol?

So when someone on a forum claims they aren't crashing during large scales battles, I assume they're trolling, lying or just trying to stir up drama. Because I have yet to meet an actual player that's not crashing in PvP on the EU Megaserver.

I think, but not sure, it's if you crash in a high population campaign you get stuck in some queue. I've seen this before and repeatedly trying to log back in eventually works. Never been stuck outside of game for too long.

Server problems (lags for all actions) are mostly caused by zergballing which the current game mechanics encourage and reward (remove AoE caps!).

Most client problems in Cyrodiil are caused by a game design that shows every single status effect on yourself, your allies and your opponents as an fx effect. The client simply can't handle 40+ player characters on screen with each of them having 3 or more fx effects on them (+ all the fx effects from dozens of skills being used). The game needs optional buff icons as part of the standard UI as well as an option to reduce fx effects to a minimum.

Sadly, since the last patch this does not seem to be the case. Me and my entire guild group have had problems in areas with very few people. This is groups of people with completely different computers in different parts of the world experiencing the exact same freezes, Lags and crashes.

Well, for the lags you wouldn't have to be close to the zergballers. They create too much traffic/too many commands/too much interaction and then the entire zone (campaign) will feel the effect when the server can't keep up with it anymore.

About client performance problems (fps drops): I believe there was another major change to how the particle systems work in Update 4. Even a single DK standard used in PvE will cause a fps drop for me now. For some reason Cyrodiil's main map always ran on lower fps for me compared to any PvE zone even when there wasn't a single other player close by.

Edit: As for client crashes, in every 3rd or so veteran dungeon run I've done recently, I've seen several people getting a critical error at the exact same moment. Those were people with different systems and different addons from various countries as well. And it wasn't always the same players, but it could happen to all. For example at the netch boss in veteran Darkshade Caverns, Grobull the Transmuted (here, for some people, one crash was almost guaranteed), or at the giant bone colossus boss in veteran Crypt of Hearts.

@tordr86b16_ESO‌, why are you running Raid 0 with SSD's?

I have no issues related to scale of battles. I do have lag / nonresponsiveness at times.

It's not a system issue, it's not a bandwidth issue, it's not a graphics card being able to handle it issue.

I was on my ganking spree and a few other ppl showed up from EP and then suddenly, a massive lag spike hit me. I asked the other two in the vicinity "lag?" and they said yes, they got it at the SAME time as me. This is not a tech issue on our end, this is a server / client issue and ZOS better get it fixed ASAP because it's killing PvP, for me at least...
