On my phone all I get is some horrid white and blue screen with "Best of" as the only category I can read through, half of it in [Snip] language!

Yeah, as I've said in every thread about this, the mobile forum 'home' page has been broken for months ever since one of their updates to the mobile layout. You just get a blank page instead of the subforum list. The only way around it without switching to the full version is to bookmark each subforum.

Unsurprisingly, ZOS hasn't awknowleged this bug anywhere.

Yep the design of browsing to different subforums is not good. Bookmark them in full site and then go to them in mobile view.

The full site does not work well on mobile, it forces you to pinch zoom in and out about 50 times to read one message

On a Galaxy S5, just double tapping the screen will fix/zoom once into a thread. Be nice if Tapatalk or something worked though.

The same can be said for any forum view from a cell phone. I have to do that on the MWO forums, the WoW forums, and damn near every other forum I go on using my phone.

If you get the white and blue mobile version happening, you can click on the "view full site" link but its not the best to use on a mobile.

We have identified why the forums do not display properly on many mobile devices, but fixing this requires structural changes that would cause problems for the desktop version.

We will be redoing the forum structure as part of the upcoming visual overhaul, which may resolve these problems. There's work left to do, and it's possible some of the desk top improvements (like language selection) will interact awkwardly with the mobile theme options available. However, mobile testing has been an ongoing part of the overhaul's developement and we are striving for a positive experience across all devices.

Hmm, if you put a browser check script before the forum loads, would allow you to place a separate style for mobile users that wouldn't affect the desktop style.

I've done this many times with many different forums, if the site registers a mobile device, it'll load the mobile style and if it's a PC it'll load the PC style.

There is no issues if you put the check in place before the load. The check takes milliseconds and wouldn't cause any additional performance issues.

Going to 'Full Site' used to work for my smart phone using Opera browser, but now 'Full Site' just reloads the same page.

There are separate mobile and desk top styles here as well, but our ability to customize the mobile theme is limited. Both themes view the same underlying forum structure, and we don't have the option to customize this between themes.

Mobile platforms have always had a degree of difficulty with certain websites, forums included, so I wouldn't be so hard on them. I'm sure it's not just them but rather the limitations of the technology in certain instances(btw ex-programmer/web dev.).

As I type this on my android phone - no, this is not the 'droid I'm looking for...
