If there were no racial perks, which race would you choose for a Mage type character?

If racial bonuses did not exist, or if they could be chosen as a type of "Role Perk Sets" with any race, what would be your preferred race for a Mage type character?
What does Mage mean?
Basically an archetypical Sorceror/Very squishy spell caster, but as classes and roles are separate in ESO, a role has to be described instead:
- Wears (mostly) light armor
- Uses staves
- Uses many forms of magic both to deal damage and heal allies and him/herself
- Also consider Priest type characters for this poll.
If you prefer more than one race for this role, please choose the one you like the most. If you cannot decide, choose one of them and comment on the other.
Unfortunately there are ten possible poll options and ten races, so there is no space for a squirrel option. If you just want to see the results, you will still have to vote for a race.
Also, note that for this poll it does not matter if you have access to the imperial race. If you like Imperials best, vote for them even if you can't play one.

Hence the majority will be Altmer, Breton, Dunmer and Argonian... then there are the folks that feel like they want the challenge of playing a "Weaker" race for a class will choose others (a Tarutaru Warrior or a Galka Mage in Final Fantasy).
I figure I should ask that folks that post, if they would be so kind include reasons... in my case, I do not like Altmer - they are snooty as a race, Dunmer are worse because they are snooty and think they need slaves to get things done, Nords seem to be the "Jock" race (Stupid, Drunk, Mussel Heads). Bosmer and Khajiit are "Sneaky" (this is not a slight, it's an ability), Red Guard and Orcs are more stoic, making good fighters... that leaves Breton's and Argonians as Spell Slingers. Zorrashi✭✭✭✭✭AltmerAltmer. They value the wise more than the chivalrous brawn. For them, wise can often be measured (relatively speaking) based on their magic-related prowess and insight. Not always, but often. Intellect sort of goes hand in hand with magic.

At this point I responded to his information request with the added information of why and listed my views on the races, which have nothing really to do with classes in the case of Altmer, Dunmer and Nords... I just don't like them. This is not saying Altmer and Dunmer would not make good mages or Nords would not be good fighters, just that I do not like them, so in the popularity contest, they lose my vote before anything else is taken into account.

The_Sadist✭✭✭✭✭BretonBreton / Altmer have always been the magically inclined races and while I'm quite fond of the Altmer, I'd go Breton. That being said, I always wished the Breton looked more.. mer and had a richer history.
