Dragon Knight has some good 1vs1 attacks and just 1 good heal (The other heals aren't that great.) but its more than plenty for solo. Templar has some good AOE and crowd controls as well as some good pulling attacks. I personally play as a DK but both are fine for solo. Some people say DK is OverPowered in PVP but I can neither confirm or deny this.

For solo pve, either are fine. I prefer my Templar because their intrinsic healing abilities just get me out of sticky situations more often than not.

    DK is OP.

Templar is really good too but it has bad Ultimates. DK can make up for lack of Self-Heal easier than Templar can compensate.

Both classes are really good though.

Have not rolled a Templar yet, but my DK completed the Leveling zones/Coldharbor/Molag Bal at L46, where my Sorc and NB were at VR1 and struggled a bit more than the DK did.

DKs have been the strongest class and Templars the weakest class since the end of beta. It is not going to change anytime soon.

    DK is OP.

I would suggest Sorc way before trying to play a Templar. Unless you really, really, really want the best healing class, Sorc is much better.

My first character was a dragon knight, and after trying every other class I'd say it is the best for solo PVE, at least if you gear up for tanking. I've also been able to take one better equipped/skilled players than me in 1vs1 PVP...

I love my Templar but am really glad my first character was a DK. The class I've found is easiest to play solo is a sorcerer.

It's all I've used so I can't really comment, but I haven't had too much trouble with PvE using my Sorc, as along as I stick to mobs about my lvl. I use 2H though so my experience from most Sorcs is probably a bit different.

    DK.

Templars and DK got some skills that are even similar , on all of those cases you will notice that the templar version is meant to support/control , while the DK is made to tank which adds a higher benefit to the class when alone.

If you plan to play alone , then DK all the way.

I've seen all classes kicking butt in both PVP and PVE and in my opinion the most important parts are the player, the build and skills used. Just my one cent worth.

I know you didn't ask about NBs, but for straight solo play I've loved it strictly because the invisibility option. Sometimes you don't wanna deal with tons of mobs or really hard bosses, so you just shadow cloak by.

But I've heard there aren't any tough mobs or bosses for DKs, so I guess being able to invis past doesn't matter :)

Lots of people think DKs are OP. Very few think Templars are. That is quite telling.

    So yes, play a DK.
Templars are 'just slower... by design'

Like? Sure. I like the heck out of my Templar. But I thought we were talking about power here?

When asked who would win a fight, a lot more people would say Georges St. Pierre is more OP than Bieber. If you can arrange a fight between them, I'll take GSP and you can take Bieber, and we'll see who makes more money.

By the same token, play a DK.

It has been six months now of dominance, and there is absolutely no sign that ZOS has any plans to end the reign of the DK.

Actually I've played all these classes and I've come to the conclusion that the class isn't as important as the game-style. I have found that it is harder to play, at any level, with melee than it is with Robe and Wood. I say wood because knockback is available early for bows and destruction staves.

My favourite character, at this moment, is an Argonian Templar using 5L/2M Armour and a Restoration Staff. Why? It's because I wanted to level up a healer and I'm finding that, so far, the Templar Healer is the most effective character I've had. I expected it to be hard slog but the quests that I had issues with as a NB are simply not as hard for this character. Part of this though is that I have played multiple characters and learnt that instant perks, knockdown perks, stun perks and Silver Bolts are essential to my gameplay.

Personally I would say the Templar is a better solo PvE class because it is a good all rounder generalist. Decent but definitely not the best at tanking and DPS. But it makes up for it by having a good AoE (Blazing Spear is a must), range attack, CC and close attack class skill attacks as well as the most options for healing. Templar doesn't have the best Ultimates but it has some reasonable options.

In PvE the DK has no real range class skills (it has a pull but it is not great) so you usually have to get a gap closer from the sword and board or 2hander skill line. It also has one heal which is good but it relies heavily imo on tanking and buff skills to protect itself.

The DK is the best tank imo and although I haven't tested it personally, from what comes up on the forum the DK would be better for PvP than a Templar because it can tortoise and wear out most other classes resources before striking itself. DK can also be built to have a better DPS for trials in end game.

So I would recommend deciding based on what you want to do more of, PvE or PvP. Plus your play style do you like to heal, DPS or tank when playing.

Solo PvE, Templar. I hear DKs are stronger in PvP, and certain PvE situations, but your Templar will cruise through PvE without ever stopping. Good AOE, your main attack will keep you at full health always. You can go through the large Public dungeons even at low levels and crush 10 mobs walking away at full health. Pesky trolls.... just laugh and smack them down. Fastest PvE toon I have played

I solo just fine with a Templar thus far (level 25).

You can get very high damage mitigation (regardless of armor type), plus self heals, plus the Fighter's Guild skills to take down or defend against undead/daedra. Skills like Piercing Javelin are good for keeping enemies down, especially when combined with Silver Shards/Leash for undead/daedra. Resource upkeep is not a big issue with heavy attacks. All put together, it makes for very effective soloing in my experience.

I play both. I will say DK all the way if you plan on doing everything solo.

Templar can solo landscape stuff(including bosses and anchors) just fine of course, but so can all classes after the VR nerf.

This game is a bit of an AoE fest, and dealing with multiple opponents is what DK's do the best. It's more fun charging into 8 mobs or enemy players, instead of settling for 1, if you know what I mean.

Templar: Moderate damage, great survivability, best heal- and support class in the game.

DK: High dmg, highest survivability, few good support skills.

Anyway, it all comes down to what skills people enjoy using. Sorcerer is pretty god-mode to, but I still don't enjoy mine. Game play and skills(if you want a maxed build) feels very dull and repetitive.
