Placing a LImited Dominion Forward Camp

This morning I tried to place one of these Forward Camps near a site that is giving me trouble to beat and it told me the ground was not flat enough. So I started moving away, looking for some flatter ground and THEN it told me the Target was our of range!!!!

How the hell does it know why my Target is?

How far away can we be from the fight we are having trouble with?

I keep getting killed and spending 10 -15 minutes riding my damn horse to get back to the trouble spot from the closest teleport station so I figured it would be a good place to set up a Forward Camp but it won't let me.

Is there someplace that explains the rules for setting up / using one of the Forward Camps?

Most likely you moved your mouse button too far away from your own character while having the forward camp active for placement and it displayed that error message.

    Hey there @Arizona_Willie,

This error message occurs when the placement circle is too far away from your character. You can move it about to scout for suitable locations, but you must be standing near enough to the placement circle in order to "set up" the camp once you have found a location that works.

The rules for forward camp placement is that they are not too close to another spawn point, which would be a keep or another forward camp, and that they are placed on a flat area on the ground.

Yes, I got it to work this morning but was disappointed. I thought I would be able to teleport to the Forward camp from the Transitus shrine and not have to spend 15 - 20 minutes riding my horse to get to the trouble spot. Turns out, that doesn't work. My toon had gotten killed several times attempting to get to a skyshard and I was hoping to eliminate all that wasted time trying to get back to the location. Nope. Can't do that. But, I got the skyshard this morning so that particular spot is no longer a problem.

Yeah, FC only work if you are ganked by a player while trying to get that sky shard. The trade off is you can self res with a grand soul gem if killed by a PvE NPC, (defender NPCs work the same as kills from players).

When I self-rezzed my only choices were < here with filled gem > or < wayshrine > ... it did not give me the option to rez at my Forward Camp which was greatly disappointing. It seems the only purpose of the Forward Camp is a rally point for your group.

    Hey there @Arizona_Willie,

The Forward Camps are only usable if you were killed in a PvP death. In the case of a PvE death in Cyrodiil, you are granted the same options as the outside world, which allows you to revive on the spot with a soul gem or to revive at the nearest wayshrine.

    Well, that sucks. :(

Why should a PvP death be treated differently than PvP?

Don't they fight with the same weapons and abilities ( other than the seige weapons, of course ), I mean in hand to hand combat.

I only play PvE so I'm not familiar with the intricacies of PvP but, to me, it doesn't seem fair / right that only people killed in PvP get to rez at the Forward Camps.

    Just my $.02. Grrrrrr

No it's not unfair. If that were the case, then someone involved IN THE WAR, defending a keep, could have their forward camp placed for the purposes of the battle used up by someone who is not helping out in the battle at all. THAT would not be fair!

Forward camps are for use by those taking part in the war, not people who are adventuring and not taking part.

The person who PLACES the Forward Camp should have the ability to decide WHO can use it. If in a group they could limit it to their group. If they are playing solo they could limit it so that only they could use it ... or it could be set up that way so a solo user placing a Forward Camp would automagically be the only one who could use it. Otherwise only the players group could use it.

Seems like a no brainer that it should have been done that way in the first place.

No, I think you have just misunderstood what a forward camp is for.

If you think that 50 people attacking a keep are all in one group, then you're completely wrong.

Go and play some PvP as part of a mass of people attacking or defending a keep, then you'll find out what a forward camp does, and who can use it. They work fine for their intended use. If you don't want to do PvP, then give your forward camps to guildmembers so that they can make use of them as intended, rather than demand that they be changed to fit your (incorrect) expectations.
