Not quite. "It all" would be your computer specs + what you were doing at time (casting a skill/rotating cam/in a party/running along/picking flowers/etc).

It's happening to everyone, specs don't matter. Everyone in my group crashed 5 times in 10 minutes.

Maybe what you were doing at time does matter? Saw someone say he noticed crashes happened when someone came out of stealth and swapped weapon then did [something I can't remember, prob cast skill]. Info might help them fix it.

"Title says it all" kinda lacks info.

It's not affected by what you're doing at the time of crashing. I've crashed too many times doing practically anything now. It's not caused by location, you can be in the middle of nowhere and still keep crashing. Solo / group, still crash consistently once or twice an hour at least. The one emerging constant is that group chain crashing is now a thing. I can't count the number of times 2-3 out of my 5 man group will crash literally at the same instant - even when we're at different locations in Cyrodiil.

And let's not even get started on the infinite load screens when trying to leave Craglorn delves - every time you click on the door it's a 50/50 shot.

I've been getting regular crashes in PVP since update 4 as well. What I'm doing doesn't seem to matter. Had it happen during big siege battles, as well as just sitting in a keep with no action going on. It dose seem to only be PVP though. Don't have crashing problems when questing in other zones. No crashing issues pre update 4 for me.

I have crashed 7 times in 2.5 hours out in Cyrodiil.
    No noticeable common denominator

If I don't crash, I freeze up for 2-10 seconds

And if they want my specs, they have them. I've submitted bug reports every *** TIME this pos crashes.

4 more crashes since my last post and I'm getting an "unknown error" when attempting to log in to that character now after the last crash. I was firing an AD ballista at Arrius.

    Hey there folks,

Crashing is a word in tech support that has a lot of different meanings. We'd like to pin down what is happening on these occurrences in order to get a better idea of the overall issue.

    1. What happens when the game crashes? Do you receive a crash report, or are you kicked back to the login screen?

    2. With the above in mind, what is the error message that you receive? If it is a login screen, please post the error that appears (an unknown error has occurred, error 301, etc). If it is a crash, please post the crash log in a spoiler tag.

    3. People have mentioned that there is no common denominator, but perhaps being less specific will help. Does this only occur in Cyrodiil? Were you in a group at the time? Was it a large group (>4) or a small group? Do you have any programs open in the background (a web browser, a music program, a group chat program)? etc.

Once we have some more specific information, we can begin investigating the issue a bit more thoroughly. Thanks for your patience everyone.

It's a game stops working sort of crash, and in most cases without the usual crash report with just the "Windows is looking for a solution" dialog. So it's in most cases impossible to send the crash report.

I only get it in Cyrodiil during big battles where there are lots of spells being cast at the same time. Being in group or not doesn't seem to influence it (I've had crashes in both situations).

I'd say it has something to do with the new PFX Prioritization system. I noticed spells not rendering (had that before) and also sound effects don't play sometimes and need client restart to fix. I noticed sound issues in both PvP and PvE zones.

    1. The entire game closes suddenly. I usally get a crash report which I always submit along with what I was doing at the time.

    2. I'll post the crash log here next time it happens

    3. Until last night I have only had it crash in Cyrodiil, but had my first crash outside of PVP. Never doing anything specific. It dose seem to happen more often when I'm in a really large battle in Cyrodiil. I have had it happen when just sitting at a keep with no fighting going on as well though. Not in a group when it happens.

This has only happened for me in Cyrodiil, but that's generally the only place I'll be in game. This happens from once an hour to multiple times an hour. In my group of 16 or so over the past few hours on Thornblade, it is a constant chorus of "crashed." Someone is always offline due to a crash. Several times, many people crashed at the exact same moment. At one point, about 12 of our 16 players all crashed together. This has been happening since 1.4 went live.

I have nothing running in the background. Only ESO. I did not have this problem prior to 1.4.

This is not fun, this is not reasonable.

I would suggest your Devs log into the live game and go to cyrodil. They would see for themselves what the problem is.

In any case, for further details this is what I notice.

As the number of people in the area increases, FPS starts dropping, skill lag increases, and the number of crashes increases. Typically the crash is of the "unexpected error" file a report type. In some cases the game just freezes and you need to F4. Often times it is mass crashes where many in the same area crash at the same time.

I strongly suggest that the problem is with whatever the heck you guys did to cause the FPS problems. Because despite numerous "fixes" the game has been horrible ever since. I honestly can't believe you just haven't rolled that back.

It crashes the entire game and dumps you at the desktop.
Crashing only happens when in or near combat.
On my low-spec box, it more often than not is preceded by absolutely horrible framerates.
Sometimes the crash reporter pops up, sometimes it doesn't. It's unreliable.
It doesn't matter if you are actively doing something or not. I crash when fighting, I crash when /sitchair-ing, I crash when alt-tabbed.
Often, relogging after a crash results in another crash after being in-game for mere seconds. Having more than 5 crashes per hour is common.
Since I only play PvP, it only happens in Cyrodiil for me.

Lastly, we are not beta testers anymore, so please stop treating us like beta testers. Problems like this only reach the end-user because your internal testing process is either lacking or completely absent, as evidenced by the sheer number of reports from people.

I'm a bit baffled and sad now. So you haven't even started to "investigate thoroughly a bit" yet? How can that not be a priority? It's already been over a week of almost unplayable PvP due to crashing and performance issues. Every new update patch, same story. PvP performance goes to ***.

So what's the point of us even filling in those error reports we keep getting 20 times a day? Is anyone even gathering or analysing that information?

I don't understand how it is the customer's responsibility to investigate these issues for you BEFORE you do so yourselves. The hundreds of posts on these crash issues since 1.4 should be enough to warrant that much.

    1. What happens when the game crashes? Do you receive a crash report, or are you kicked back to the login screen?

Full crash with error report. No way to tell it's coming. You see only the crash report and are sent back to desktop.

    2. With the above in mind, what is the error message that you receive? If it is a login screen, please post the error that appears (an unknown error has occurred, error 301, etc). If it is a crash, please post the crash log in a spoiler tag.

Don't have one right now and I don't have the time to play to make it happen. If you want an error report, I sent more than 15 on Saturday and at least three yesterday before I got too frustrated to play.
If you guys are customer support, you should have access to those reports. Else, they should already be sitting in the appropriate inbox / repository. I should not need to splatter my settings over the internet in this kind of situation.

    3. People have mentioned that there is no common denominator, but perhaps being less specific will help. Does this only occur in Cyrodiil? Were you in a group at the time? Was it a large group (>4) or a small group? Do you have any programs open in the background (a web browser, a music program, a group chat program)? etc.

Yes, I will be happy to do the troubleshooting for your team. But I get paid very well to do this type of work for a living. I am confident that I will not need to send any more than I have here. Unless, of course, I can begin billing for my time testing, troubleshooting, and providing solutions for Zenimax's services. Asking me to do this for free during my free time with a product for which I pay is akin to asking a barber for a complimentary hair cut because he just bought a shirt from your store or asking a cabbie to give you a free ride cuz your restaurant served him a dinner he paid for.
Please tell the board up there at ZOS that they need to stop laying off developers and hire more QA. ...assuming they want to maintain a successful business model. Smaller profits are better than none at all.

I also might suggest that, if they do not have enough reporting in their error codes that development might want to enhance them and make them more verbose in ways that will allow support personnel an opportunity to clearly understand "what we were doing at the time".

Over the course of ... I dunno ... 20-ish maybe ... hours of play, I have been able to come up with the following answers based on my experience (whereas other players likely have found similar but differing results):
    • Yes, this only happens in Cyrodiil. More specifically on Thornblade.
    • It has happened when I am in a group and when I am not. I was in groups of 2, 6, and up to larger zerg-style raid groups. But, even when I was not grouped, I was running with other players each time.
    • The only program I had open with any consistency was TeamSpeak3. On Saturday night, I turned it off after the second crash. Edit Note: I proceeded to play through at least 8 more crashes that night. I do have anti-viruses, malware stuff, etc. running. But, I ran just fine for DOZENS of hours in PVE with even more running: IE, TS, and sometimes even MinionUI.

My opinion is that it does not seem to matter how long you're logged in - I personally believe it is a peak-time, "server's full" kind of problem. I was able to play for only an hour on Saturday before it began and once it did, the problem only seemed to increase in its regularity. However, when I played on Sunday (after pve, when I went to Cyrodiil), I had more than two hours of perfectly good performance until it started. Then, once it did start (around 7pm CST), it RAPIDLY increased in its regularity. I only let it happen five times yesterday, but as far as I could tell, they happened within about ten minutes of each other... still on the same character and only in Cyrodiil.

I spent 4-5 hours on Sunday (prior to my Cyrodiil issues) running dungeons & Dragonstar. Not a single blip, freeze-up, or crash at all.

I logged on to another character for a short period (thoroughly frustrated) after the Cyrodiil issues yesterday and no problem whatsoever. While my Cyrodiil char was crashing every 5 - 10 minutes, my crafter was just fine: sitting in the great tree in Grahtwood.

From what I tested, this issue has nothing to do with any specific ability or action. Like I said before, this happened while I was standing still using only camera panning.
Other times I can think of:
    • Trying to use Dark Cloak to stealth away from a surprise attack.
    • Firing siege equipment at walls of a keep
    • Stealthed in front of a keep, taking shots at people on top of the walls
    • Stealthed on the walls of a keep taking shots at people below
    • Attempting to sneak into an inner postern door when an enemy team was in the keep courtyard
    • Attacking a resource (farm) flag at a distance from the side of a rock
    • Defending a resource from atop the tower or from inside a structure

    Summary:
    1. Only in Cyrodiil - Thornblade is all I tested
    2. Feels like a max population issue. Either a global Thornblade population problem or a local max during keep assaults / defense.
    3. PVE thus far appears unaffected but only direct comparisons I have are a level 28 AD Templar whom I leveled to 29 in Greenshade and the very same character from the Cyrodiil issues: a vr14 NB who ran Dragonstar, Vet Fungal Grotto, and a small amount of gathering resources in Craglorn. Not even one crash in ... maybe 6-10 hours (?) ... of pve.

While I appreciate your attempts to quell the frustration, I personally find it a little alarming that your team has not already begun thoroughly investigating.
I know this was happening to ALL of the other players I grouped with on Saturday night. So, if I sent 15 and there were easily more than 100 people on (15x100=1,500)... surely you all received at least 500 error reports with the same code(s). Therefore, this isn't just some tiny little issue like "my char isn't OP, fix me." It's a game-stopping issue for a pre-paid service that would have hopefully alerted an on-call representative who can accurately assess the scope of the potentially global impact.

I'm going to go on the assumption that you're here just trying to help and that whoever was on-call this weekend has been hard at work on this for hours or days already. I'm sure it's a difficult issue that cannot be simply solved and ZOS has an appropriate on-call escalation routine that would have been employed here.

If you guys really need forum posts to troubleshoot, the problem isn't on the user's end - it's in the error handling.

    Hey there @Kungfu‌,

We're simply trying to gather more information to send along to the appropriate parties. Our teams have been working on issues related to crashing in Cyrodiil based on the submitted crash reports. We just want to ensure that due diligence is done on our end so that no information gets lost along the way, especially in cases where crash reports aren't generated.

Once the maintenance is completed today, the game will update to patch 1.4.4, which contains an update for the issues with crashing in Cyrodiil. The patch notes for 1.4.4 can be found here. Please let us know if this patch is helpful once it goes live. Thanks for the additional information everyone.

    EDIT: Information about 1.4.4
    EDIT 2: More 1.4.4 info.
