nirncrux stones - how?

Okay people are selling nirncrux stones for a crazy amount of money, which I am fairly certain is due to supply and demand. Someone said that you have to do a quest for them to even be on the loot tables, but that could just be a cover to keep people away from the supply.

So, I am curious if anyone on here who knows the secret can help me out. If there is a quest, what is it and where do I obtain it? I've found all of two non-food containers in craglorn, a desk and a nightstand that were empty, and I suspect they will always be empty. Where can I farm the stones?

If it is of any help, I will not be selling them. I will be hoarding them to be able to make the items once I have researched them.

You get Nirncrux stones rarely when you harvest a resource node in Upper Craglorn. I'd say the chance is between 1/20 and 1/50.

Apparently you get them from crafting nodes in north Craglorn. In a month or two the price will drop when the market starts getting saturated.

You only have to do the quest to get an item with the trait on it to research - it's the reward for finishing the main upper craglorn quest. Like everyone said, you get the actual stones from harvesting (wood, ore, clothplants) but is pretty rare.

Just remember that the prices you see are what they are listed for, not always what they are selling for - same problem with using the add-on price tracker. (Not that someone desperate won't pay sometimes) There were people coming straight out of the Arena round one trying to sell v13 prisoner set items for 50K, people are just pricing things crazy because there isn't anything on the market yet. The price is just high not just b/c of supply, but also because of that mentality. It will come down.

oh I'm not paying that. It's irritating that people don't attempt to keep within a reasonable range when selling, for me, making a sale is better than sitting on an item for an outrageous price, but I realize other peoples' priorities are different.

You have to do BOTH upper and lower craglorn quest chains to unlock the loot table.

can someone confirm or disprove this? Is this person just trying to keep the prices high or providing legit info?

My Bretons are already at the Softcap on Mana Resist, and have no points in the passives. Good thing, as I don't need to chase these things for them.

Unfortunately, I have an Imperial too.....

Wait, doesn't it take at least 30 days (assuming they have the other traits researched) to research the trait on one item? How can anyone be using the trait gems to make armor already? Or, did they use a crafter who has nothing researched to jump start this.....

research it on a fresh alt, then make the item itself for your main when a slot frees up, or for others to research.

Don't forget to take the new 4/4 skill in cloth, metal and wood.

Decreases the time for everything another 5% and caps the amount of time crafting will ever take. Still keeps it at 3 items at a time though.

Yea research goes down to like 31 days after the fourth skill, btw it will chop some time off stuff currently being researched.

Ok, I have done NO quests in Craglorn, upper OR lower, and I DO find Nirncrux stones. The stones have been found in the following types of locations for me:

    - harvest nodes (wood, ore, AND bloom)
    - a heavy sack (the one specifcally in the abandoned stable near the town, although I doubt that matters) and
    - among the loot of 7 welwa which also gave me shadowhide scraps

I have also heard rumor, but cannot verify, that you can find it in chests. However, the only place so far I have heard of anyone getting the Nirnhoned trait items is from completing the Upper Craglorn quest line, or from the Dragonstar Arena. Or, of course, buying it.

Anyone who says you have to complete any questline to find the stones is a liar.

They are expensive right now because people want to be able to make traited items to sell to other people for research.

It would be interesting to track the price curve on those as more people find them and more people get the research done (though it's going to be a while until everyone has all items researched in that trait).

Also, since there appear to be no 9-trait sets right now, it's more of a completionist thing.

which is odd, because I have seen the stones for 30k, and the traited items for 50k, so you'd be turning a pretty measly profit considering they don't really move very fast.

Someone said (in another thread) any vet rank to get there, but you might need to be careful to avoid Higher VR mobs.

My main has found nirncrux in upper craglorn nodes at vr1 and vr2.

As AlexD says you just have to be careful where you tread because there are some tough groups of mobs around.
