You only have to do the quest to get an item with the trait on it to research - it's the reward for finishing the main upper craglorn quest. Like everyone said, you get the actual stones from harvesting (wood, ore, clothplants) but is pretty rare.
Just remember that the prices you see are what they are listed for, not always what they are selling for - same problem with using the add-on price tracker. (Not that someone desperate won't pay sometimes) There were people coming straight out of the Arena round one trying to sell v13 prisoner set items for 50K, people are just pricing things crazy because there isn't anything on the market yet. The price is just high not just b/c of supply, but also because of that mentality. It will come down.
Wait, doesn't it take at least 25 days to research the trait on one item? How can anyone be using the trait gems to make armor already? Or, did they use a crafter who has nothing researched to jump start this.....
They are expensive right now because people want to be able to make traited items to sell to other people for research.
It would be interesting to track the price curve on those as more people find them and more people get the research done (though it's going to be a while until everyone has all items researched in that trait).
Also, since there appear to be no 9-trait sets right now, it's more of a completionist thing.
Thank you for the info on this! It's good to know!Ok, I have done NO quests in Craglorn, upper OR lower, and I DO find Nirncrux stones. The stones have been found in the following types of locations for me:
- harvest nodes (wood, ore, AND bloom)
- a heavy sack (the one specifcally in the abandoned stable near the town, although I doubt that matters) and
- among the loot of 7 welwa which also gave me shadowhide scraps
I have also heard rumor, but cannot verify, that you can find it in chests. However, the only place so far I have heard of anyone getting the Nirnhoned trait items is from completing the Upper Craglorn quest line, or from the Dragonstar Arena. Or, of course, buying it.
Anyone who says you have to complete any questline to find the stones is a liar.
Do you need to be vet rank 14 to find them in upper crag or can you be any vet rank ?
