Technically a Hotfix would be a fix that happens while you are playing, so technically no.

However you might have downloaded a small fix, I have just checked, and I'm downloading a patch too, so maybe.

Yes, a hotpatch or fix or whatever.

Guess what it wasn't for? NBs. We will have to wait a week to be fixed.

But keine angst, because the real problem, the thing that needed immediate attention, was apparently the fact that the end boss for the Dragonstar arena was too challenging for some people.

I, for one, am so happy they have their priorities straight.

ZOS seems to have a different definition of 'hotfix' :)

Actually it was for the Crafting UI bug and the bug to do with people having special characters in their names. and appearing as online or offline.

Yes, they do appear to have a different definition.

But for me their definition of hotfix is the same as a fix/patch just done quicker.

Those might have been in it, but the listed bugs had dragonstar arena boss being too tough as set for a hotfix.

Don't get me wrong, those are important, and I can't actually prove that ZOS prioritized their new feature over the playability of an entire class, but I'd still bet good money on it.

Ah, that might be why they are calling it a hotfix, the server stayed up.

Hey there, guys. Yes, we did push a hotfix to address an issue with crafting UI and player social status. To apply the fix, please log out of the game, and log back in.

To address some concerns, please keep in mind that not all bug fixes can be deployed in a hotfix. Some more complex bugs require server downtime and patching the client. A hotfix does not necessarily indicate that a bug is higher priority, but rather our ability to provide a fix as quickly as possible for an issue. We're still hard at work on fixing the various issues address in our Known Issues thread, and we'll continue to update it as quickly as we can with any updates.

    Thanks for your understanding.

Update: We also implement two different types of hotfixes, depending on the issue: ones that require no downtime and no patch, and ones that require no outage and a patch. We hope that helps clear up some confusion!

Probably when they fix NBs (Stealth, Shadow Cloak, and Night's Silence) the calls for nerfing will continue. At the moment NBs who use these aren't going to PvP, unless they're RPing a masochistic character.

See this makes more sense. By addressing concerns, this can help people, who can understand reason, know more information and can stop being in the dark about fixes that they want in the game pronto. I know I feel better now knowing that there is certain things that can be hotfix and that some fixes that require server downtime.

Might be a small download, but it's crawling along at 100kb/s. I have broadband 55, and this is the best I can get from ESO for an update speed?

So they can hotfix the crafting, but they can't stop the email from asking you "Are you sure you want to delete this email that you can't delete when it has something even though we are pretty sure it's empty now since you now have a delete option where none existed but, please confirm?"

Fixing that would be easier as far as coding goes. Get rid of it please. It's already pissing me off and it's only been 2 days.

You don't seem to know that in professional IT worlds (as opposed to toy-town games providers) any service interruption is NOT a hotfix, so a patch doesn't qualify.

Hotfix is a term applied to the servers, not the clients.

Depending on what the hotfix is about, it might or might not also come with a small patch for the client.

Changing a scripted event is a server matter (as it happens only on the server and players only "see" it so it does not require players to restart their client.

Changing something like the LUA code used in the craft window requires the client to get that updated code and to install it (hence, a client restart).
It's still a server hotfix (as it had a boss script / parameters change as well) but it was also a small, proper, client patch.
