I've seen some people responding on other forums saying that it has always been tied to character level and not crafting level. How does that even make sense?!? Since when does my characters level mean anything for crafting if I'm max crafting level?
Wait, really? I guess I'm lucky that my main is also my primary crafter (I started doing most crafting skills on him before I went down the rabbit hole and created an army of alts). I guess I'll also have to level my secondary crafter - she's currently only level 26. I'm not sure what the reasoning is on this, and frankly I don't really understand why this change would be made.

I suspect, to deal with players that were powerleveling the motif crafting skills. Particularly blacksmiths trading daggers for decon and getting to 50 in no time. Though, Clothiers and Woodworkers had their own. (I'm not sure what the woodworker item of choice was.)

Had the skill points invested in her to be able to craft Hickory, but I only got materials back from Maple and Oak (and very occasionally Beech). I started leveling her again last week for exactly this reason.

It hasn't been this severe though. I've broken down countless blues green and purples on my 50 crafting level 16 character level toon since launch and have always gotten some type of mat back... Racial style, infusion, resin or mat... Now I'm literally getting nothing from VR items I break down.

So, this has been going on for a little while. It's a change, but not with 1.4.3

She does everything except for Provisioning........
All at crafting level 50 and all fully unlocked......
AND....
I have many unused skill points and not yet located Skyshards

Your party probably isn't though ^_^

My main is Vet11.... I created purple glyphs with one character and am deconstructing them with my main. They are both going up at the same level. As soon as my main hit level 35 enchanting, halfway through the level up bar I stopped gaining experience for deconstructing vet7-9 purple glyphs. This is BS!!! and had better be a bug. I don't care if I get mats back, but if I can't gain needed experience, then what is the point of trying to level this skill?
Hmm, this is a good change then. At least now we know what's happening. Of course, I still don't really see the point in having characters not be able to get materials above their character level if their crafting level is high enough. It barely affects me, but it seems dumb, and I would think that it would negatively affect a lot of other people. There was a change in patch 1.4.3
The change is NOW you get a warning, in the past, you just lost the materials and had no idea some materials were not given to you. Now it tells you.

I sent them a /feedback with this very question months ago. I may also have used the words "*** move with literally no conceivable benefit that no good person would ever have thought was a good idea for even an instant."
I stand by that.
Because using ridiculous hyperbole is a good way to get people to take you seriously?MasterSpatula wrote: »Tootall2186 wrote: »Who thought decon mat return being based on character level was a good idea. And why was it even changed to begin with?
