If you really want to put a mail safeguard in place without annoying people, just create a deleted mail queue that lets people temporarily restore deleted emails if they made a mistake. Much better than a useless confirmation.

The point of a confirmation dialog, as any competent GUI designer will tell you, is to allow the user to recover from making a mistake they do not realize they are making, or to allow the user to recover from a decision that they now regret.
Maybe one of those attachments is legendary mats that you really worked hard for.
Ah 2014. I suppose hitting E to take the attachment, X to delete and E to confirm delete is too much work. Incoming carpal tunnel! Maybe one of those attachments is legendary mats that you really worked hard for.

You can't even delete attachments, so there's that. What's the risk here? You might delete a message about a guild sale that contains no useful info? Oh, darn.
And as somebody who actually suffers from occasional nerve discomfort thanks not only to gaming but my job, I find this kind of insulting.
