About patching (update: got the game to work! but I always get stuck in Requesting Character Load)

Hi.
I just bought a physical copy of the game a few hours ago. I expected patches, but I did not expect patches this (is it true that I need to download roughly 30gig before I get my game up to date?) big. That's why I bought the physical copies in the first place. I don't think my connection can handle that size, since I live here in the Philippines. My max speed when downloading is only roughly 250kB/s. It is outrageous that patches are this big. I have played previous MMOs, GW2 being the most recent, but never have I encountered patches this enormous.

I fear I wouldn't be able to play the game I bought simply because of the outrageous patch sizes. I also constantly get that annoying webget error, which stops the download outright. isn't there another way to be able to download the patch from a more stable source? I really wanna be able to play the game, and I hope this gets resolved. :(

edit: I figured that I usually get the webget error if my connection drops out even for only a few moments.

edit: so I got the game to work, but it is very hard for me to get past the "Logging in - Requesting Character Load" part after selecting my character. it's like a 1 in 10 chance to get in. Is this a server issue or is it on my end?

You know what, I'll just suck it up and download the game, no matter how long! I just know that the game is worth the effort.

that's good to hear :D well anyway, I hope they add torrent support someday. not everyone can download as fast as 10MB/s lol.

The regular patches are usually 100 mb or so. The update patches can vary from 2GB to 4GB so far I know. I think you had that amount of patches because the game had 4 updates already, and your PC had to take it at once. I hope your download can finish before I die, so I can welcome you to ESO if you play on NA. The game is worth it :)

hey just to be sure, say I wanna go to a place with faster connection to download the game, I can pause the launcher download and have it resume without problems right?

Yes, it will resume after pause.
Also, for download speed, on ZOS side it rarely exceeds 200kbps. I usually get only 50, so you should still be OK on your end with your 250 :-)
    Good luck!

I've not seen that before, but it could be due to different IP address or firewall settings.
Yeah, best stay put & exercise patience ;-)

So I got home, fired up the launcher and finally pressed the play button. Error 11. searched the web for solutions, nothing works. If I repair, then I'd have to download all over again. man.

Sorry to hear that. You should go to the program files and make a copy of the ESO folder to a safe location, once that is done you can just uninstall/install the launcher to resolve these errors, when you open the launcher and the blue buttom says INSTALL, just close the launcher and copy the folder you backed up to the original eso folder and open launcher again, should fix what you need without the *** download.

I tried that, same error. maybe some of the files didn't download properly..

Same here. Download speed never gets higher than 300kbps. Maybe there is a priority region? Or because of server in NA? My internet is fast but only in eso the connection sucks. Mine took almost 40 hours just to download and install. Yesterday took another 1p hours just to patch and install. Never had error only the speed. And my game settings resets as if I'm new to the game.. I.e. tutorials.. Etc.

well at least it worked for you the first time! I'm currently redownloading everything after installing from the discs. speeds range from a measly 50kB/s to 230kB/s tops. Hopefully the error will be gone after this reinstallation. I really wanna start playing >_<

I fixed this problem via resetting my internet connection. Hope it works.

Well, patches are huge, but after all, so is the number and severity of bugs, so do not worry, it's appropriate.

Hello @Linkanton‌ ! The size of the patches and updates to download is normal at this point. As so many features have been added to ESO since the physical disks were released, it will take a bit of time to get your game client up to date. We do offer the ability to download and install the most up-to-date client if you go to your account page and download it from there. It will still be a large file, but it should be a bit more optimized than installing from square one.

There are a few troubleshooting steps you can try if you happen to come across these errors again. The Webget Request Failed error can be avoided if you run the launcher as administrator, adjust your antivirus and firewall settings to allow ESO traffic through, and ensure that you are not running a proxy. If you continue to get this error, please be sure to contact our support team so that we can look deeper into your system to see if you may need to adjust your internet and router settings as well.

If you are continuing to get Error 11, running a repair on your game client while running as administrator in addition to adjusting your internet settings for ESO traffic should get rid of this and fix any corrupted files that may have installed while you were patching the game.

Thank you, and as always if you continue to have problems beyond these troubleshooting steps, please be sure to contact our customer support team!

thanks for the reply MollyH! those are great suggestions, especially for error 11. hopefully I won't need them though.:P just a quick question, if I download and install the launcher that I can get from my account page, how large will the launcher itself download for me to have an up to date game? thanks.

also a follow up question: when repairing, is it normal that my client downloads another 26gb worth of files?

I think there should be a download manager that simply restarts the download from where it was stopped cuz of disconnects or what ever. This would help everybody out that has connection issues like the poster dose. Poster cant help his connection out cuz the internet there is not good. I been to his country twice and seen the conditions they have to deal with but that was back in 1989. I feel for the poster. I wonder if a 3rd party download manager program would work from the website download? I feel so bad for the poster! :/
