You have to go into Cyrodiil to do PvE but you are not required to do any PvP for them.

Some people like Lfehova/Hova/Hovaling have made 3 nearly identical toons (all bat/scale spaming DK's in DC) and have gotten emp with all three for combined times of almost two months.

If you're lucky and have a day off from work when a campaign resets you can get emp. Just get to the top of the leader boards that day and get lucky enough that your faction flips the boards in the time span.

I got my emp kill achievement on him. <3 he's my dead bro for life now, whether he knows it or not.

You have to enter Cyrodiil to do dolmens, delves or quests for some of them but you do not actually have to take active part in PvP. Although chances are you are going to encounter players from other alliances at some point and have to fight or respawn.

But on the OP, I will never be emperor because I am:

Not in a huge PvP guild.
Not got enough time to get enough AP.
    Not especially great at PvP.

    Doesn't mean I don't have a blast most times I go in.

I encountered at least 6 solo players in delves themselves, not counting those I found while traveling between them. I also found myself cornered by a pack of 20+ smurfs in Lipsand Tarn at one point. Fun stuff xD

I got all the Cyrodiil achievements on my main. Mind you, this was when there were 9 campaigns and my home campaign was heavily slanted towards EP. I think for all of them, I maybe encountered an enemy player three times. If you keep your eyes and ears open, you can stay away from them before they see you.

Of course, if you go into the high-pop campaigns, your chances of meeting players will increase. But it's still doable. Cyrodiil is one of my favourite PvE places.

But the one title I will wear when I get it is Master Angler!

Funny thing, for me, there are *too many* emperors. I mean, even without the AP farming issues and such, I'd still think there are too many. They should be names to echo through the meta-history of this game.

In my defense, I probably won't ever be emperor either (I'm not saying that because I am/was). I just really believe that emperorship should be something really rare... I mean... "no more than 100 people in 4 years of game"-rare.

    But that's just me :pensive:

Wow, I am really off-put by this comment. Achievements in a game can also mean an achievement in real life to some people. Especially people who are in hospital beds right now and this game is all they have left to do.

This is true. Some might call being a chess grand master or a poker champion silly because they're just games, but to some people it really means a lot.

Do some people honestly want to be Emperor without having to work for it? I don't care for PvP so it's highly unlikely I'll ever become the Head Cheese, but I'm okay with that because I know nothing comes for free. Good luck to all who do enjoy that aspect of the game, I wish you the best in your quest to lead the realm, if it's only for a moment

You might not be able to be Emperor, but your chances of getting married or finding a boyfriend/girlfriend have improved, at the very least you get to keep your job. Eating regularly and sleeping indoors is fairly important to me at least.

But seriously I agree I have about 10-12 hours a week to play and have accepted the fact that I will never be Emperor unless the population drops to 3. I could win the lottery or go back to school full time for my doctorate which could improve my chances. Bribes also might work.

There are plenty of things in multiple MMOs that a majority of players will never have. At least in this game it is minimal compared to most MMOs. Time in game is a deciding factor with all MMOs, this game is no different.

Would be different if it wasn't initially passed back and forth like mashed potatoes at Thanksgiving dinner. The skill line is powerful - it should be. The former skill line, not so much.

Had the original concept held - you know, gaining the throne, clearing the Imperial City and holding it, it would be different.

Seems a little peculiar that you don't have to kill or truly dethrone the former in order to gain the title.

Don't you think the Emperor would have more defenses in place than that of the 6 keeps surrounding the city? As it stands now, the NPC's defending will stand vigilant, right outside the door where audible chaos ensues, as the keep is taken right out from under them.

The AI is lacking in 'I.' This would at least make the title a bit more earned than it currently is.

Heck, the guy carrying a log to the warehouse has sense enough to fight when he realizes an attack is eminent, WTH don't the elite NPC's at the keeps do so?

It's a numbers game, not so much a strategically earned, skill based thing, as it should be.

The real problem with emperor is that it's not rewarded for skill at all. It's rewarded to whomever neglects their family and friends the most. Or whoever has multiple people playing the same account.

The Emperor title actually rewards poor real life behavior.

If I had the utmost über power to change the world, I would make it so:

Whenever the 6 keeps are taken (and imperial city, maybe, eventually... If it gets attached to the throne war (which it should, IMO)) everyone from that faction CURRENTLY IN CYRODIIL (and in that campaign, of course) gets a 'popup' notification to "show their support" for the eligible emperors.

Eligible emperors are the 10 top AP scores that PARTICIPATED on the battle that took the last keep/imperial city + the top 10 scores from that battle (so the top 10 people that "fought" the battle even if their overall score is not that great).

Like when a king takes land and the generals/nobles "show their support" to whom they think should these lands be granted.

Ok, might not be a good formula, I just threw some random numbers - but I suppose you all get the IDEA; which basically is: give a chance to people that contribute a lot/might lead/raise a big effort (raid, etc) to be emperor regardless of the overall AP score.

    ---

By the way, something similar should be done with keeps as well, the first come, first serve logic to claim them is rather stupid.

Wow, you guys jumped all over the OP just for being bummed out about not having the time in their life to farm AP for Emperor.
I am sure there are many players who feels the same way as the OP.

Getting emp isn't about being good or skilled (sadly), it's about competing with no-lifers (some of which actually share accounts) to farm AP, to obtain the game's crowning achievement.
It's not relevant to this thread what your opinion of the emperor title is.

Fact is, unless you play near 24/7 with a strong core group, you are never going to see it.
Some people think that's kind of lame, and I agree with them.

The Emperor system could use serious improvement.

Should've never had an emperor system that gives you such a distinct advantage over another player. It wouldn't matter so much if it was just the outfit because the current farmers have shown that the title doesn't mean anything anymore.

It's not even about being the top pvper, it's about who plays the most and can farm the most points. They should've put diminishing returns on alliance point gains when you keep killing the same person over and over and over and over.

    POOF! Granted, master.

There are diminushng returns for killing the same person over and over.

I agree! Everyone should be able to become Emperors! I think people should just inherit the title as soon as the character is made. You know, so it's fair for the "normal" people. Because as soon as a requirement is put on the title, it becomes unfair.

Er, but wait! What about the abnormal people? If we give the title to the normal people then it's not fair to the abnormal people! OMG, it's a riddle wrapped in a mystery inside an enigma!

On second thought this is a bad idea.
