@morvegil: It depends on what level you want purples for. They drop in level relevant zones. I didn't see my first purple V5 recipe until I hit V5 and was in Rawl'Kha. Upstairs in the Inn has lots of furniture for loot. I have also picked up purple V5 recipes in Mournhold. I like the Fighters Guild for its lots of furniture.
Finally you need to have the RNG be kind to you, and bless you with good drops!

I have had the worst luck for this but it all comes down to RNG. Containers in towns and cities and also public dungeons. Every now and then I'll spend 2 or 3 days solid going through previously quested zones. You know, where you fixed the towns, etc.

I don't play much in VR because every time I get a character to VR they just sit in the Coldharbour bank. I don't like the VR content in this game one tiny bit.

It was my understanding that Vet recipes only drop in Vet zones. So if you are DC faction, looting in Daggerfall and Wayrest will at best yield lvl50 recipes.
Did I misunderstand the way Vet recipes drop?

Thanks for the info. I thought it was the same for both after Vet. I'll be re-evaluating where I recipe hunt now.
