You do not need to be in a trading guild.

I have over 500k gold personal use. 90% of my sales come from /zone and farming..... and it collects dust. There is a delusion in this game that you need lots of gold to accomplish anything. You dont. Everyone can craft. You dont need 8 traits to make the best gear. Leveling crafting is easy. You only really need gold for a horse and repairs.

Don't every pay money to join a guild. Having a membership fee is indicative of a low quality guild. All of the top guilds are free. However, most of them are full with active, high level players, so getting an invite is not easy.

You don't have to be in a "top" guild. I see guilds spam in zone chat all the time. This would be the best place to start. Anytime you see a message of "Trade guild, 450+ members, inactives kicked after two weeks" join that guild. If you don't like it, leave.

Also, the trading system is not broken. It's quite nice.

I couldn't state that there is any "Best Five" when it comes to trading guilds. All you really need concern yourself with is that they actively get ANY guild trader kiosk. Many players seem to think that there are premium kiosks, but realistically, every kiosk is good. The trading guilds that I am in, have had major city kiosks and sales were decent. But a couple of times we've been stuck with what everybody would consider a crappy location, and our sales were 2 steps above awesome.

That being said... Any trading guild that requires a monetary donation should be avoided. That's the whole point of the guild cut in your sales, since you're already contributing.

You can make tons of gold in just a couple of hours from farming public dungeons and selling for cheap to the in game Vendors. No need to worry about money your leaving on the table trying to find the best sell price. Reason, it's all loot, we all get the same loot from the same drops, so nothing is going to sell for large enough amounts of gold to make the hassle of trying to get the best price or profit from something worthwhile.

The only thing I see Vendors being of benefit with is Materials, selling those or buying them. Or, buying a traited item for research.

Once I stopped worrying about the arbitrary in game "values" for items and just focused on how much gold can I make in an hour, making all the gold I need became easy.

Enjoy the game, life is what you really want to be worried about.

I'm in a couple large ones that you don't have to pay to join. They do have weekly raffles which require you to deposit gold into the bank if you want to enter, but they are not mandatory. Kind of a cool way to raise money for the kiosk spot.

Some really good points here, OP, hope you're paying attention.
    • No guild that charges you is worth joining.
    • There are many ways to make gold, with or without a guild.
    • Gold has limited usefulness, since you can craft great gear if you want. Gold is for horses and repairs...not normally anything else.
    • If you are looking for an active trading guild, join the guild, then check their sales history. If you don't see many transactions, leave and find another guild.

    Don't forget additional bag/bank space!

And I wouldn't say gold is not "normally" good for much else. It depends on what your play style is.

Not everyone actually wants to craft at all, so it can be very useful for armor, potions, food, glyphs, etc. Crafting in this game is GREAT, but takes time and effort, and not everyone enjoys that aspect of the game. It also takes skill points which many people don't like wasting on crafting, and don't want to build and level a craft-only alt, or develop EVERY line of crafting.

So, for some perfectly legitimate play preferences, gold is very, very useful, and you do need it.

So funny to read those posts about TOP free :)

I have not seen any trading guild which charge 5-10k (actually lot of money for only joining), but I saw lot of "TOP" guild which call themselves top and have NPC trader for 10k gold (in some forgotten place) and have only 5-10 pages in guild store (also maximum sold items about maybe 20-30 per day). What about really best trading guilds which paying 300k, 400k, 500k and even more for best NPC traders? where active traders can make 1-3 millions gold per week with such guild store? you can check which trading guild are really awesome, just go to their trader and check how many pages of goods they have, or join "free" guild where most guild masters taking gold from guild bank fom themselves (ofc not everyone, but most as far i saw) and have zero discipline in guild and you can see it by everything starting from guild selling's in trading log ended with guild activity history.

For gold it is all about how much effort you want to put in. A nice trading guild that makes a point out of keeping a nicely located trader is very good if you don't want to put a lot of effort into making gold. I've made over 150k in the last week or so posting certain items to my trade guild.

To find a good trading guild look at which guilds routinely keep a trader in Craglorn or the Rift that is well stocked. Join one of those guilds.

However, as many have pointed out above, you'll make more money if you spend a lot of time and effort spamming zone and crafting.

I am not in a trading guild anymore. You can find their vendors anywhere and mostly they sell nothing of value. I am in 4 PvP guilds and 1 PvP/PvE guild.

I just had to pay 5k for the last guild to get senior membership so i could use the guildbank. This benefits all members because i can use the donated crafting materials to craft, which i put back for others to decontruct. And vice versa.

I haven't spend much gold so far. Only for my horse (which is lvl 50 for a long time) and repairs (but since i PvP now as i dont have PvE quests also not anymore)

I don't see the need to buy expensive stuffs. I see people sell kuta's for 5-10k, and later on they buy a monumental glyph for 50k which they could have made themselves if they kept the kuta.

Same for armor. You can craft it yourself, or ask a guildmember to craft you one. Sometimes you have to provide the mats, but sometimes the guildbank is packed with them.

Yes, sometimes i get tempted to buy a barbaric motif or imperial motif (50k and 100k) but then i know i might loot one myself one day. And if not i will just level my imperial dude to craft so i can make imperial armor.

And since i only PvP, it doesnt cost much money, but also i don't gain much money.

I don't have a trade guild, I usually don't try to buy from them if I can either. I see a lot of people selling a stack of level 15-25 crafting mats at either more or equal price of the V9-V12 mat.

Wow, a upfront gold requirement to join? Sounds kinda 'murky' at best to me.

I am a member of three trading guilds in DC, none of them require you to give them gold to join. I do however donate gold in my favorite of the three. Let me explain why I do that.

That particular guild has a pretty well placed guild trading post. When I was there before the advent of guild traders sales were so so (I make potions/food). After the guild leader spent their own coin procuring a guild trader, my sales went up significantly. To the point that I can start making determinations on what products I can create would reasonably sell. Even though that's still an ongoing process, (bought my first consumate VR food recipe yesterday), I've a better picture than I had before regarding what other players value enough to buy from a trader. That particular guild spends a ton of gold keeping that trader location. I donate coin to further that end, by choice. If it were a strict requirement, I'd be out of there fast enough to leave a flame trail.

I also like the crafting help that guild provides at no charge per it's rules. And that nearly everyone is helpful to each other. It's a decent place to be, and as such I've no reservations helping to support it's efforts.

And yeah, as someone stated earlier, you can hit a point in this game where gold has little meaning. Not there yet myself. I have 4 characters at various levels that have bag space issues. Account bank still many upgrades away from being full. No bought horses for any of my characters. And if I'm crafting something and need materials, it costs me gold to get them from other sources.

Overall, I'd say that supporting a guild you like is cool. Donating to further the guild's goals is cool too. But being required to pay to join or continue membership is suspect to me.

I see a lot of recruitment messages that make no logical, numerical or financial sense:
    • Why pay more to secure a trader than you will earn from that trader in commission? Sure way to virtual bankruptcy.
    • Following on from that, why risk putting your eggs in the most expensive basket that also has the highest risk of leaving you with no trader at all.
    • Why restrict membership of a 'trade' guild to Vet levels, when lower level raw materials and resources always remain in demand?
    • Why have such low rates for kicking members (I see a lot of 7/10 day kicks), when both listings and active subs last for 30 days.

Demanding monies to join or absence notes when a player goes on holiday is absurd, to me, but I guess some people just can't help putting themselves across as 'leet' or hardcore.

Not that it is working if their tactics in zone chat are anything to go by - I never deliberately knock other players recruitment messages out of zone chat in place of my own, nor do I publically criticise their recruitment message. Two tactics that are becoming increasingly commonplace and give the impression they are not nice guilds to be part of.

I joined one trade guild in early access and it is run so well I have never seen a need to join a second (or third etc.). And a well run trade guild virtually runs itself.

This. even PvE/PvP guilds have the 7 day inactive kick. Next month im 2 weeks of to Greece so i will drop one note to one of the 5 guilds. So at least i am still in one guild after i return.

Ridiculous isn't it? Sure you can leave notes but even that is more trouble than some players want to go to. Especially in a game where the guild design is not the exclusive experience it is in other MMOs.

Guilds in ESO, particularly trade guilds, are extensions of the NPC versions we see in TES. You won't get kicked from the Fighter's Guild because you haven't completed that task they sent you to do over 7 days ago, or from the Undaunted because you haven't bought a round of drinks; I think some player guild leaders could learn a thing or two from the NPC guild leaders.

I'm genuinely curious as to why a trading guild would expect a payment from new members. Is anyone here in such a guild, or perhaps runs such a guild? Could you shed some light on it?

I've never seen such a guild recruiting in-game, just heard of them second-hand. Is that even a real thing?

Also, if you're looking for a pleasant trading guild without an entry fee, consider The Wandering Merchants. Free traited items for members, give-and-take bank policy, and we regularly get Sintilfalion in Daggerfall for our kiosk. So long as you don't post silly prices, you'll sell.

Hmm, trading is useful. Not to make money though. As has been said, there's really not much of a point to being rich in this game. But trading does help you get your hands on things you cannot find quickly in the game.

Which guild to pick? I just replied to one of the ads. No idea what to expect. So far it's served me well enough.

The kiosk thing I don't really get though. I suppose it helps to get stuff sold, but as I'm not in need of money, what would I care whether my guild has a stall?

This is completely wrong. Look it up. "Guild cut" is a tax, ZOS just worded it that way to be RPish. The guild you are in does not see this money at all!
In other words - a gold sink.

The only way player guilds can get money from members is if the member donates it in the guild bank, just like leaving money in your personal bank to transfer to another character.

    Hello OP,

I remember the other thread you started about this unique game not having a global AH, and how you feel this is hindering your gameplay.

What I don't understand is that you start these threads, refuse to look at the suggestions people offer that might alleviate the issues you perceive yourself to have, and you blame this game of not being exactly the way you want it. You then come to your own conclusion that the mechanics are broken and thus "making it hard for you" because you refuse to make use of the in-game mechanics, e.g. crafting and the guild system.

I wonder, have you tried crafting your own gear? Since your last thread (before this one), have you tried to join guilds on your own accord or attempted to trade via /zone?
