There is a rumor that the bug - which would essentially wipe out all data if the server was restarted - has been discovered. They are working on the workaround.

hmm..I wonder how it was discovered (if true)? I'm perfectly fine with or without maintenance since the same issues that have been around since beta seem to pop up at some point anyways. I'd rather they focus on fine tuning the next update so we don't end up with anything game breaking.

You have got to love how the mods drop in to scold paying customers but not to shed any light on the question - ZOS CS at the usual high levels.

Not wanting to start any rumours, but inevitably risking doing so - but could the lack off recent patches and maintenance be related to the recently announced layoffs?

Don't be silly. They have already said that Update 4 is coming and that they are rolling up the smaller patches and fixes into that.

And that's what my PR person would come up with too. That is what they are paid for.

Just seems odd when the servers are in such a dreadful state right now that we don't see even basic maintenance.

Seriously, this has been explained to you several times...one concern is that errors are creeping into the game that are usually fixed with a system reset/reboot. Try to pay attention to someone besides yourself once in a while, Nerevarine.

Please, please, PLEASE zenimax. Do some server maintenance.

I can't count how many times in the past few days, I've teleported short distances, enemies have teleported short distances, attacks have done 0 damage (especially frustrating when it pulls me out of stealth for it).

You are being obtuse, a fair number of us are experiencing unusual levels of lag, regular freezes and rollbacks to an increasing degree as successive maintenance windows have been skipped.

In the past these regular activities seem to have at least mitigated such problems. It would be nice to see the game being nurtured or, failing that, some explanation as to why it is not other than speculation by other posters with no additional actual knowledge.

Otherwise it does risk the appearance that ZOS cannot be bothered to maintain the game, fix the game or communicate about the game. The same old problem with ZOS from day one - great game, lousy customer care.

And acting superior is still just acting.

honestly I've enjoyed not having downtimes two times a week, The game is running fine, I think its neat that they've gone so long with their megaserver without needing a restart, says a lot about the servers don't you think? Shows promise imo

I personally can't believe patch 4 is not dropping this week. I suppose it is a big one but it seems this is typically the week the patch drops each month and the amount of time a new patch is on the PTS before dropping. I'm really not excited about it other than the enchantment tweaks and morph respeccing as I am still only VR1, but I just want to get it done so we can start concentrating on the next, hopefully more interesting, patch (please lip syncing, champion system, IC).

I'd be totally fine with some maintenance if it did help out with stuttering or lag.

I can't really work out why they can't have normal maintenance prior to launching an update anyway. Surely the servers should be in top condition before they give us the next update? I mean, retroactively, maintenance can only help can't it? Or are they patching an unstable or laggy framework?

Hi, folks. We wanted to pop in to let you know that, as others have mentioned, we have rolled a lot of fixes into Update 4, which is why we haven't performed maintenance in a couple of weeks. That said, we will be performing maintenance during our usual maintenance window this Thursday/Friday to reboot the server.

We're aiming to push Update 4 to the Live NA and EU megaservers next week. We'll be sure to let you know as soon as we have an exact date.

Traditionally maintenance is required to perform database maintenance, that is to perform backups, indexes optimization, tables repair and optimization and so on. A lively MMO with no maintenance tends to get slower (players would say "laggier") and to load the servers more than necessary.

Since a couple of years it's possible to backup servers while they run, so a big maintenance reason is over.
If they feel they don't need to optimize tables and whatsnot it's because there are not enough players causing enough database fragmentation to require a weekly database maintenance.

You don't have to patch everytime you re-boot the server (as you do many times) but we may have been atleast able to play properly this past week without server related lag problems......I want to know the real reason for this lapse.

Maybe instead of balling all the fixes into one update every six-eight weeks we could actually have them each week when they're ready.

I don't want to wait almost two months every time there is a bug spoiling the game for me, I mean I basically don't even log in right now because I CBA with the state of the game until 1.4 addresses some issues.
