Maybe instead of balling all the fixes into one update every six-eight weeks we could actually have them each week when they're ready.

They said 4 to 6 weeks, not 6 to 8 weeks, and they have held to the 6 week schedule.

Given the number of fixes that weren't, I would be OK with the idea of rolling them up every 4 to 6 weeks if it meant fewer broken fixes.

Hi, folks. We wanted to pop in to let you know that, as others have mentioned, we have rolled a lot of fixes into Update 4, which is why we haven't performed maintenance in a couple of weeks. That said, we will be performing maintenance during our usual maintenance window this Thursday/Friday to reboot the server.

We're aiming to push Update 4 to the Live NA and EU megaservers next week. We'll be sure to let you know as soon as we have an exact date.

So why haven't you been doing that anyway?
You don't have to patch everytime you re-boot the server (as you do many times) but we may have been atleast able to play properly this past week without server related lag problems......I want to know the real reason for this lapse.

    In other words:

Entitled Player: "We demand an explanation for why you haven't taken the servers down!"
    Developers: "[Insert reason here]"
    Entitled Player: "NOT GOOD ENOUGH!"

Are you starting to understand why they might not want to explain everything to you?

Sindala does have a point. The explanation for why there weren't any of the standard maintenance days doesn't actually make sense if it is inextricably linked to the updates/patches.

I've been a pretty staunch defender of the game and of ZOS - yet I do feel that a reboot each week to 'tidy things up' or perhaps take strain off the ongoing use of the server (presumably what the maintenance was there for in the first place) doesn't actually tie in whatsoever with a large patch.

I mean, why even have maintenance at all - why not simply wait til the next big update to arrive and then tidy things up?

Maybe it has just been on my end, but the performance has been growing noticeably worse, and I can't help but think that maintenance or the lack-thereof may be the reason. But today was the first time I got booted off the game for chat spam, when I hadn't typed a thing, which concerned me.

You have got to love how the mods drop in to scold paying customers but not to shed any light on the question - ZOS CS at the usual high levels.

Not wanting to start any rumours, but inevitably risking doing so - but could the lack off recent patches and maintenance be related to the recently announced layoffs?

Don't be silly. They have already said that Update 4 is coming and that they are rolling up the smaller patches and fixes into that.

And that's what my PR person would come up with too. That is what they are paid for.

Just seems odd when the servers are in such a dreadful state right now that we don't see even basic maintenance.

It's the Illuminati-MJ12-Freemason plot to keep the servers up.

This is the first time I've ever seen anyone demand to know why they can have access to the servers and play a game. Well done, ESO forums.

Seriously, this has been explained to you several times...one concern is that errors are creeping into the game that are usually fixed with a system reset/reboot. Try to pay attention to someone besides yourself once in a while, Nerevarine.

I've been saying this in several threads.

I don't want to wait almost two months every time there is a bug spoiling the game for me, I mean I basically don't even log in right now because I CBA with the state of the game until 1.4 addresses some issues.

I can think that the reason for doing this is to try and prevent introduction of new bugs from weekly fixes conflicting with changes made in major updates.

They have also stepped up the PTS testing process, which will probably help make sure those fixes are actually fixed. But they still have that issue of getting every bug reported in-game and in-forum acknowledged that it will even be looked at.

They really haven't stepped anything up on the PTS. They introduce a new dye system and players only have access to a select few of them. They introduce crafting set changes and people more than likely have no access to them. They introduce pvp changes and yet you can only make a template on one faction... yeah they actually need to put their shoes on before stepping.

Hello, folks. There have been a couple comments in this thread that are straying from the topic at hand. Please be sure to keep the discussion constructive and stay on topic. Thank you for your understanding.

the post is nothing but a complaint, i was hoping it would go off topic and maybe worth reading then

No maintenance last 4 weeks because fixes coming in Update 4.
That said, we will be performing maintenance during our usual maintenance window this Thursday/Friday to reboot the server.

But then again we will do maintenance just to reboot the servers.

They have been postponing the maintenance because of update 4, so clearly there wasn't supposed to be any maintenance UNTIL update 4. So yeah I do have the idea that they're rebooting the servers to keep people happy until update 4 and it's a good thing since servers needed it.

Please don't give people the idea Thursday's maintenance is regular since last 3 have been skipped.

Most probably it is due to the recent layoffs. When layoffs come, they come unexpected, tech teams do not plan ahead with layoffs in mind.

I think the sysop team got hit hard by them, so they're reorganizing activities.
On the same matter, expect most of the new "features" seen at the Quakecon to be canceled/delayed indefenitively.

I repeat, layoffs are not planned in the tech/dev departments, so everything in schedule has to to be re-planned or canceled when they happen.
